How to Use the Rust Eco Raid Calculator
This Rust eco raid calculator prices a raid in tools, fire and grenades instead of C4 and rockets. It is built for solos, duos and early wipe groups that have no sulfur stockpile yet but still want into a base.
- Add your targets. Click a wall, door, window or deployable to add it. Click again, or use the + and − buttons, to change the count.
- Pick a side. Choose soft side or hard side. This only changes building walls, which take about 10x more melee damage from the soft side. Doors, windows and high external walls have no soft side.
- Pick an eco method. Every method is listed with the count and time for your whole raid, fastest first. Methods that can’t damage one of your targets are greyed out. Best no-sulfur mix uses the fastest sulfur-free option for each target.
- Read the craft list. The calculator turns the tools into raw resources (wood, metal fragments, scrap, cloth, low grade fuel and sulfur) so you know what to farm.
What Is Eco Raiding in Rust?
Eco raiding means breaking into a base without high-tier explosives. Instead of C4 and rockets you use cheap melee tools on the weak side of building blocks, fire on wooden parts, and small amounts of sulfur in beancan grenades. It costs far less sulfur, but it is slower and much louder for longer, so it works best on offline bases, small builds and bases with wooden or soft-side weak points.
Eco raiding gets weaker as a wipe goes on. Day one bases are mostly wood and stone, which eco raids well. By the end of the wipe most bases are sheet metal and armored with metal doors, and at that point C4 is cheaper. Check the next Rust force wipe date to see how much wipe is left.

Soft Side vs Hard Side
Every building block in Rust has a hard side and a soft side. Melee tools do around 10x more damage to the soft side, and the soft side is meant to face inside your base. Builders who place walls the wrong way round, or leave a stone wall soft side facing out, give eco raiders a free way in.
- Stone: the hard side shows fitted, cut blocks. The soft side is flat and pebbly.
- Wood: the soft side is the one with the support struts and framing. The hard side is the flat log face.
- Doors, windows and high external walls have no soft side. They take the same damage from both directions.
- Explosives, fire and beancans ignore sides. Only melee tools care.
Stone wall: soft side vs hard side
| Tool | Soft side | Hard side |
|---|---|---|
Salvaged Icepick | 7 salvaged icepicks 8 min | 64 salvaged icepicks 1 h 15 min |
Pickaxe | 7 pickaxes 11 min | 72 pickaxes 1 h 45 min |
Salvaged Axe | 10 salvaged axes 11 min | 94 salvaged axes 1 h 51 min |
Hatchet | 15 hatchets 15 min | 150 hatchets 2 h 32 min |
Stone Pickaxe | 33 stone pickaxes 12 min | 340 stone pickaxes 2 h 3 min |
Stone Spear | 26 stone spears 8 min | 260 stone spears 1 h 16 min |
Jackhammer | 9 charges 2 min | 88 charges 18 min |
How to Eco Raid Wood
Fire is the cheapest way through wood. Molotovs, fire arrows and the flamethrower all burn wooden walls, doors, gates, window bars, the tool cupboard and most wooden deployables. Fire does nothing to stone, sheet metal or armored blocks.
| Target | Molotovs | Fire arrows | Flamethrower fuel | Beancans | Salvaged axes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Wooden Wall (soft) | 4 | 125 | 206 | 13 | 1 |
Wooden Door | 2 | 50 | 83 | 6 | 7 |
Wooden Window Bars | 4 | 125 | 206 | 13 | 6 |
High External Wooden Wall | 7 | 250 | 412 | 26 | 12 |
Tool Cupboard | 1 | 6 | 42 | 4 | 4 |
Auto Turret | 7 | 46 | 412 | 16 | 1 |
A molotov costs 50 low grade fuel and 10 cloth at a Workbench 2. Fire arrows only need a Workbench 1 and a hunting bow, which makes them the best early option: 50 fire arrows break a wooden door and 6 break a tool cupboard. If you can’t get fuel, a salvaged axe on the soft side of a wooden wall breaks it with just 1 tool.
How to Eco Raid a Stone Wall
Stone is where eco raiding earns its name. From the soft side a stone wall falls to a handful of tools. From the hard side it takes ten times more, and beancans are the better choice.
| Tool | Stone wall (soft) | Time | Craft |
|---|---|---|---|
Salvaged Icepick | 7 salvaged icepicks | 8 min | Workbench 2: 1 pipe, 5 blades |
Pickaxe | 7 pickaxes | 11 min | Workbench 1: 100 wood, 125 frags |
Salvaged Axe | 10 salvaged axes | 11 min | Workbench 2: 1 pipe, 5 blades |
Hatchet | 15 hatchets | 15 min | Workbench 1: 100 wood, 75 frags |
Stone Spear | 26 stone spears | 8 min | No workbench: 300 wood, 20 stones |
Stone Pickaxe | 33 stone pickaxes | 12 min | No workbench: 200 wood, 100 stones |
Jackhammer | 9 charges | 2 min | Loot only |
The surprise on that list is the stone spear. It needs no workbench, only 300 wood and 20 stones, and 26 of them break a stone wall soft side about as fast as salvaged icepicks. That makes spears the go-to fresh-wipe eco raid when you have no scrap or metal yet.
How to Eco Raid Doors
Doors have no soft side, so tools are slow on them. Wooden doors burn. Every metal door is a beancan job, or a C4 or explo ammo job if you have the sulfur.
| Door | Sulfur-free | Beancans | F1 grenades |
|---|---|---|---|
Wooden Door | 2 molotovs | 6 (720 sulfur) | 23 (1,380 sulfur) |
Wood Double Door | 2 molotovs | 6 (720 sulfur) | 23 (1,380 sulfur) |
Sheet Metal Door | — | 18 (2,160 sulfur) | 50 (3,000 sulfur) |
Sheet Metal Double Door | — | 18 (2,160 sulfur) | 50 (3,000 sulfur) |
Garage Door | — | 42 (5,040 sulfur) | 120 (7,200 sulfur) |
Armored Door | — | 69 (8,280 sulfur) | 200 (12,000 sulfur) |
Armored Double Door | — | 69 (8,280 sulfur) | 200 (12,000 sulfur) |
Ladder Hatch | — | 18 (2,160 sulfur) | 50 (3,000 sulfur) |
High External Wooden Gate | 7 molotovs | 26 (3,120 sulfur) | 118 (7,080 sulfur) |
High External Stone Gate | — | 46 (5,520 sulfur) | 182 (10,920 sulfur) |
A beancan grenade costs 60 gunpowder (120 sulfur) and 20 metal fragments, so 18 beancans for a sheet metal door is 2,160 sulfur. That is more sulfur than 63 explosive ammo (1,575 sulfur), but you don’t need a rifle, and beancans only need a Workbench 1. Beancans are also a dud risk: some fail to go off and have to be picked up and thrown again. F1 grenades are half the sulfur each but do far less to doors, so they cost more overall.
Can You Eco Raid Sheet Metal or Armored?
Technically yes, realistically no. A sheet metal wall takes 30 salvaged icepicks from the soft side (about 35 minutes of hitting) or 112 beancans (13,440 sulfur). Four C4 do the same job for 8,800 sulfur in seconds. An armored wall takes 223 beancans. Once you hit metal, switch to the raid calculator and bring real boom.
Rust Eco Raiding Tips
- Look for wood. A wooden door, wooden window bars or a wooden high external gate is a fire target even on a stone base.
- Find a soft side. Walk the base before you swing. Many builders leave a soft side out on a single wall, a doorway or a half wall.
- Burn the TC, not the walls. One molotov or 6 fire arrows kill a tool cupboard, after which the base starts to decay and you can build in.
- Kill turrets with melee. An auto turret goes down to a single salvaged axe once you reach it, much cheaper than satchels.
- Carry spares. Bring a tool or two more than the calculator shows. A swing that misses the wall still costs durability.
- Bring a repair plan. A repair bench or workbench nearby lets you repair tools mid-raid instead of crafting new ones.
Rust Eco Raid FAQ
What is eco raiding in Rust?
Eco raiding is breaking into a base without C4 or rockets. You use melee tools on the soft side of building blocks, fire (molotovs, fire arrows, the flamethrower) on wooden parts, and cheap beancan grenades on doors. It costs little or no sulfur but takes longer and makes more noise.
How do you eco raid a wooden door in Rust?
Two molotov cocktails burn down a wooden door, the same for a wood double door. Other options are 50 fire arrows, 6 beancan grenades, or 7 salvaged axes. Wooden doors have no soft side, so tools take the same damage from both directions.
How many tools does it take to eco raid a stone wall?
From the soft side a stone wall takes 7 salvaged icepicks, 7 pickaxes, 10 salvaged axes, 15 hatchets or 26 stone spears, or 9 full jackhammer charges. From the hard side it takes about ten times more, so use 46 beancans (5,520 sulfur) or 2 C4 instead.
How do you eco raid a sheet metal door?
A sheet metal door takes 18 beancan grenades (2,160 sulfur). Doors have no soft side, so melee tools are not practical. If you have a rifle, 63 explosive ammo (1,575 sulfur) is cheaper.
Can you eco raid a garage door or armored door?
A garage door takes 42 beancans (5,040 sulfur) and an armored door takes 69 beancans (8,280 sulfur). That is possible, but for armored doors explosive ammo or C4 from the raid calculator is usually the better deal.
How do you eco raid a tool cupboard?
One molotov cocktail destroys a tool cupboard. Six fire arrows, 4 beancans or 4 salvaged axes also work. Once the TC is gone the base starts to decay and anyone can build around it.
What does fire damage in Rust?
Fire from molotovs, fire arrows and the flamethrower only damages wooden things: wooden walls and floors, wooden doors and gates, wooden window bars, the tool cupboard and most wooden deployables. Stone, sheet metal and armored blocks are immune to fire.
Is the eco raid calculator accurate on modded servers?
The calculator uses vanilla damage and durability data. Modded servers often change building HP, tool damage or crafting costs, so treat the numbers as a baseline there.
Got the sulfur?
Price the same raid in C4, rockets, satchels and explosive ammo.
Counts come from Rust’s vanilla damage and durability data and assume full-durability tools and every hit or throw landing. Modded servers can change building HP, tool damage and crafting costs.
