Walking across a Rust map takes forever, and everyone you pass can kill you. Vehicles fix both problems. Rust has rides for every stage of a wipe: free horses and bikes on day one, boats and a minicopter once you have some scrap, and helicopters, trains and siege weapons for bigger groups.
This Rust vehicles guide lists every vehicle in the game, sorted into air, land, water, rail and siege. For each one you get the price or where it spawns, the health, the seats and how much fuel it burns, plus which ride to pick at each stage of a wipe. Every vehicle with its own guide on this site is linked, so you can go deeper on the one you want.

Air Vehicles in Rust
Every aircraft in Rust is bought for scrap from Air Wolf, the helicopter dealer inside Bandit Camp. You pay at the terminal and the aircraft spawns on the landing pad outside. All of them burn low grade fuel, and all of them can be locked onto by a SAM site.
- Hot Air Balloon, 150 scrap. The cheapest way off the ground. It is slow and drifts with the wind, so it is a scouting tool, not a raid taxi. A Workbench 1 can craft Hot Air Balloon Armor (200 metal fragments) to toughen it.
- Minicopter, 750 scrap. Two seats, 750 HP and a 500 fuel tank that burns about 30 fuel a minute. It is the purchase that changes most wipes. Full guide: Rust Minicopter.
- Scrap Transport Helicopter, 1,250 scrap. 1,000 HP and room for a whole team: two seats up front and space for about 12 more players to stand in the cargo bay. It burns 30 fuel a minute. Full guide: Scrap Transport Helicopter.
- Attack Helicopter, 2,250 scrap. The only armed aircraft. A pilot flies and a gunner fires rockets and a chin turret, with flares to break SAM lock. 850 HP. Full guide: Rust Attack Helicopter.
Land Vehicles in Rust
Land vehicles are the cheapest rides in Rust. Most of them are not sold at all. You find them, fix them or tame them.
Horses
Horses are the best wipe day ride: no fuel, no scrap, and up to 63 km/h on a Thoroughbred. All breeds have 400 HP. You can buy saddles at a Ranch or Large Barn, or claim a wild horse. Our horse guide covers breeds, saddles, armor and feeding.
Bicycles and motorbikes
Bikes arrived in the Road Renegades update in July 2024. Pedal bikes and the two-seat pedal trike spawn along roads and at monuments. They need no fuel, but pedalling drains your food and water, and sprinting drains it faster. Motorbikes come as a single bike or a bike with a sidecar for a passenger who can shoot. The sidecar version has 350 HP and a 500 fuel tank that burns about 7 fuel a minute, so a full tank lasts over an hour. Look for them at the Airfield, Supermarkets, Gas Stations, the Satellite Dish, Mining Outposts, the Water Treatment Plant, the Junkyard and Power Plants.
Modular cars
Modular cars sit broken down along the roads, with around 60 on a normal map. Each one has a short, medium or long chassis and a mix of modules: cockpit, engine, storage, flatbed, passenger seats, camper or fuel tank. To get one running you repair it with a hammer, fit engine parts (carburetor, crankshaft, pistons, spark plugs and valves, in low, medium and high quality) and add low grade fuel. Better engine parts can be bought at Bandit Camp, or researched and crafted. A Modular Car Lift, powered with 5 electricity, lets you swap modules and engine parts at your base. Full build guide: Rust cars.
Snowmobiles
Snowmobiles only come from the Arctic Research Base. Swipe a blue keycard at the garage and you get a snowmobile with a little fuel in it. It has 300 HP, two seats, a 12 slot stash and burns about 9 fuel a minute. The Tomaha is the second snowmobile model.
Boats and Submarines in Rust
Boats and submarines are bought from the Boat Vendor at a Fishing Village. They spawn in the water next to the vendor with a little fuel in the tank.
- Kayak. Crafted at a Workbench 1 from 200 wood, 75 metal fragments and 50 cloth, and paddled with a Paddle (200 wood, 15 metal fragments and a metal blade). The blueprints cost 50 and 25 scrap at a Fishing Village, or you can unlock them on the Workbench 1 tech tree. Two seats, silent and fuel free.
- Motor Rowboat, 125 scrap. Four seats and 400 HP. The cheap coastal runabout.
- RHIB, 300 scrap. Six seats and 500 HP. The crew boat for Oil Rig runs. Full guide: RHIB Rust.
- Solo Submarine, 200 scrap, and Duo Submarine, 300 scrap. 500 and 700 HP, both fire torpedoes, and the Duo has sonar. Full guide: Submarine Rust.
- PT Boat. Added with the Naval Update in February 2026. You cannot buy it: PT boats patrol the Deep Sea with armed scientists on board, and you take one by killing the crew. It has 7 seats and is the only ready-made boat that can go in and out of the Deep Sea.
- Player-built boats. Also from the Naval Update. You build your own ship from hulls, sails and engines. Our boat building guide has every recipe.
- Tugboat. Tugboat spawns were switched off in the Naval Update. See Tugboat Rust for what changed.
Trains in Rust
Rust has a rail network on the surface and in tunnels underground. Workcarts run along both, and locomotives pull wagons on the surface lines. Nobody sells them: find one on the tracks, put low grade fuel in the tank and climb into the driver’s seat. A workcart burns about 4 fuel a minute from a 500 fuel tank and has three forward and three reverse throttle settings.
Two warnings. A train keeps moving when you get out unless you stop it first. Underground, scientists put barricades on the tracks, and hitting one at full speed damages the cart. The Train Yard is the best known stop on the line.
Siege Vehicles
The Primitive update in February 2025 added four wheeled siege weapons: the Catapult, which lobs boulders, firebombs and explosive ammo; the Ballista, a giant crossbow with four bolt types; the Battering Ram, which smashes wooden and stone building parts; and the Siege Tower, a three level rolling tower with drawbridges. Horses can tow the catapult, ballista and siege tower, which is how most groups get them to a target.
Vehicle Fuel Use
| Vehicle | Fuel per minute | Full 500 tank lasts |
|---|---|---|
| Minicopter | 30 | About 16 minutes |
| Attack Helicopter | 30 | About 16 minutes |
| Scrap Transport Helicopter | 30 | About 16 minutes |
| RHIB | About 15 | About 33 minutes |
| Snowmobile | 9 | About 55 minutes |
| Motorbike with Sidecar | 7 | About 71 minutes |
| Workcart | 4 | About 2 hours |
Every engine in this list burns low grade fuel. Craft it from animal fat and cloth, or refine crude oil at a small oil refinery.
Decay, Storage and Theft
Vehicles decay when you leave them outside, and they decay faster than base parts. Park them indoors: a garage door bay keeps a minicopter or car safe from decay and from other players. Horses are the exception and decay faster under a roof. Our Rust decay guide explains how it works.
Best Vehicle for Each Stage of a Wipe
- Wipe day: a horse or a bicycle. Both are free and need no fuel, which is perfect for farming runs.
- Mid wipe: a minicopter, or a RHIB if you live on the coast. Both get you to Oil Rig and the big monuments fast.
- Late wipe: a scrap transport helicopter to move a whole group, or an attack helicopter if you want to fight from the air.
- Raids: siege weapons for primitive raids, a scrap heli to drop a team on a roof.
Every vehicle disappears at the force wipe along with the rest of the map. Check when the next Rust force wipe is before you sink scrap into a late wipe helicopter.
