Soft Side Eco Raiding

Melee tools hit the soft side of building blocks around 10x harder than the hard side. If a builder left a soft side facing out, you can dig in for free. Here’s the tool bill:

Target (Soft Side)Tools NeededTime
Wooden wall in RustWooden Wall~8 cheap axes or hatchets~4 min
Stone wall in RustStone Wall~8 pickaxes, ~6 icepicks, or 1 jackhammer with refills~7 min
High external wooden wall in RustHigh External Wooden Wall~7 tools~16 min
High external stone wall in RustHigh External Stone Wall~5 jackhammers~60+ min
The Jackhammer Trick Jackhammers never break, they just run out of charge. Drop a portable workbench next to the wall and keep repairing one jackhammer forever. A stone wall soft side becomes a one tool job. Loud, but free.
Know When to Walk Away Sheet metal and armored blocks can’t realistically be eco raided. And the rule cuts both ways: on stone, the soft side looks smooth and pebbly while the hard side looks like fitted blocks. Scout before you commit your tools.

Values are for vanilla servers as of July 2026 and assume workbench-crafted explosives. Modded servers will differ. Icons courtesy of Facepunch.
