The Tempered Thompson is a Thompson skin in Rust with a heat tempered metal finish: the steel fades from hot pink to purple to gold, with blue highlights on every edge. It was made by the workshop artist Milho Frito and is now the most traded Thompson skin in Rust: 899 copies were for sale across 14 markets on November 6, 2026, with the cheapest at $1.28 and Steam at $1.85.
Below is what the skin looks like, its real price on every market we checked, the rest of the Tempered weapon line, how it compares to other popular Thompson skins, and how to put it on your gun in game. It is part of our best Thompson skins list, and for the gun itself, see our Thompson guide.
What the Tempered Thompson Looks Like
The skin makes the Thompson look like steel that has been heated in a forge. The body shifts from hot pink to purple to gold, the way real tempered metal changes colour, and the cut lines, vents and edges shine blue. The word TEMPERED is stamped into the side of the receiver, and the foregrip and pistol grip stay black and textured, so the colour sits on the metal only.

Like every Rust skin, it is cosmetic only. Damage, recoil, fire rate and attachments are the same as a default Thompson. The bright pink and gold are easy to spot, so this is a skin for people who want their gun to stand out, not blend into a bush.
Tempered Thompson Price on Every Market

A live check of the Steam Market on November 7 showed $2.01 lowest and $1.63 median, with 51 sold in the previous 24 hours.

| CS.Trade | $2.00 | 5 |

The Tempered Weapon Line
Milho Frito has been making Tempered skins since the Tempered AK47 in 2015. Through 2021 and 2022 the same heat tempered style came to the Bolt Action Rifle, M39, Crossbow, SAR and Double Barrel Shotgun, and newer ones followed on the SKS, HMLMG and Waterpipe Shotgun. The Thompson is the most traded of them all.
| Skin | Gun | Cheapest | Steam | Listed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tempered Thompson | Thompson | $1.28 | $1.85 | 899 |
| Tempered AK47 | Assault Rifle (AK) | $8.47 | $10.00 | 456 |
| Tempered BAR | Bolt Action Rifle | $1.19 | $1.58 | 256 |
| Tempered SAR | Semi-Automatic Rifle | $2.18 | $2.96 | 252 |
| Tempered M39 | M39 Rifle | $1.44 | $1.99 | 241 |
| Tempered Crossbow | Crossbow | $1.70 | $2.38 | 216 |
| Tempered SKS | SKS | $1.01 | $1.37 | 199 |
| Tempered DBS | Double Barrel Shotgun | $1.34 | $1.95 | 172 |
Apart from the older AK47, most Tempered gun skins cost $1 to $2.20, so you can match two or three of your main guns for under $5. The Tempered AK47 is the odd one out at about $8.50, because it is a much older skin with a different gold and copper look.
Tempered Thompson vs Other Popular Thompson Skins
We ranked all 70 Thompson skins with market data by how many copies were for sale (13,491 Thompson skin listings in total). The Tempered Thompson came first, ahead of the Bombing Thompson, and it is one of the cheapest skins in the top six.
| # | Thompson skin | Listed | Cheapest | Steam |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Tempered Thompson | 899 | $1.28 | $1.85 |
| 2 | Bombing Thompson | 716 | $0.82 | $1.23 |
| 3 | Redemption Thompson | 493 | $2.77 | $4.19 |
| 4 | Blackout Thompson | 457 | $2.79 | $4.02 |
| 5 | Cold Hunter Thompson | 383 | $2.94 | $4.42 |
| 6 | Chameleon Thompson | 342 | $1.11 | $1.47 |
If you want something cheaper and more military, the Bombing Thompson is about 45 cents less. If you want a dark, quiet look, the Blackout Thompson costs about twice as much. For the full ranked list, see our best Rust Thompson skins page.
How to Get and Apply the Tempered Thompson
- Get the skin. Buy it on the Steam Market listing or a trusted site (see where to buy Rust skins). It goes into your Steam inventory, and Steam purchases may hold it for 7 days before you can trade it on.
- Craft with it. Open the crafting menu, select the Thompson and pick Tempered from the skin list before you craft.
- Or reskin one you have. Put any Thompson into a repair bench, choose Tempered and apply. Reskinning costs nothing extra.
- Keep it forever. The skin lives in your Steam inventory, not on the server, so you keep it through every Rust force wipe and can use it on any server.
Is the Tempered Thompson Worth It?
For most players, yes. At about $1.30 it is one of the cheapest well known Thompson skins, it has a bright, clean look, and with almost 900 copies for sale you can always buy or sell it fast. It is not a skin to buy as an investment: with that much supply, the price is more likely to stay flat than climb.
