Revolver Rust: Stats, Recipe, Ammo & Shots to Kill

Weapon guide, updated 2026

The Revolver is the first real gun most players ever hold in Rust. It is crude, it is ugly, and it is cheap enough to craft the moment you scrape together a Workbench 1, which is exactly why it matters. Before you own an assault rifle or even a Thompson, the Revolver is the gun that turns a naked spawn with a rock into someone who can actually threaten a geared player. Eight shots in the cylinder, real pistol damage, and a price so low you can carry two.

It sits one clean step above the Eoka on the weapon ladder. Where the Eoka is a coin flip that might not fire at all, the Revolver in Rust shoots every time you pull the trigger and reaches out to a genuine mid range. It will not win a fight against an AK on even footing, but that is not its job. Its job is to be the reliable, throwaway sidearm you use to take that AK off somebody else.

This Revolver Rust guide covers everything: the real stats, the full crafting recipe and how to unlock it, where to loot one on wipe day, the three pistol ammo types, exactly how many shots it takes to kill, how it stacks up against the Semi-Auto Pistol and the Python, and what a spare recycles for. Every number here is checked against the Facepunch wiki, RustClash and Corrosion Hour, not guessed.

TL;DR The Revolver in Rust does 35 damage a shot from an 8 round cylinder at roughly 343 RPM, for about 200 firing DPS, doubled to 70 on a headshot. You craft it at Workbench 1 from 125 Metal Fragments, 25 Cloth and 1 Metal Pipe, after unlocking the blueprint for just 30 scrap at a research table. It fires standard Pistol Bullet, HV Pistol and Incendiary Pistol ammo, and it takes no attachments at all. Against an unarmoured player it is a 3 body shot or 2 headshot kill. It is the cheapest crafted gun in the game and the natural stepping stone to the Python, which shares its ammo. Like everything else, your Revolver and its blueprint reset on the monthly force wipe.

What Is the Revolver in Rust?

The Revolver is Rust’s entry level firearm, a homemade double action pistol that sits right at the bottom of the crafted gun tier. Its shortname in the game files is pistol.revolver, and it is one of the very first guns a fresh player can realistically make, needing only a Workbench 1 and a handful of common materials. If the Eoka pistol is your desperation weapon, the Revolver is your first proper one.

What makes it worth crafting is the combination of reliability and price. Unlike the Eoka, which sparks on a random delay and misfires constantly, the Revolver fires the instant you click. It holds eight rounds, more than any other pistol in the game, and it uses the same pistol ammo as the far stronger Python and Semi-Auto Pistol. That shared ammo is the quiet reason the Revolver is such a good first gun: every round you loot or craft for it carries straight over when you finally upgrade.

The catch is raw power. At 35 damage a shot the Revolver hits softer than every other pistol and rifle, and it has no attachment slots, so you cannot bolt on a sight, a silencer or anything else. It is a naked iron sight gun. That keeps it firmly an early game and backup weapon, but a cheap gun you can replace after every fight has a value all its own in a game where you lose your gear the moment you die.

Rust Revolver stats card: 35 damage per shot, x2 headshot for 70, 343 rounds per minute, about 200 firing DPS, an 8 round cylinder, 3.4 second reload, fires Pistol Bullet, HV Pistol and Incendiary Pistol ammo, takes no attachments, crafted at Workbench 1 from 125 metal fragments, 25 cloth and 1 metal pipe, unlocked with 30 scrap at a research table, repairs with 25 fragments, 5 cloth and 1 HQM, stacks to 1 and despawns in 20 minutes, shortname pistol.revolver

The headline numbers to remember are the 8 round cylinder and the 30 scrap unlock. No other gun in Rust gives you eight shots before a reload, and no other gun is cheaper to learn. The Semi-Auto Pistol and Python both hit harder, but they cost more to make and, in the Python’s case, need a higher workbench. For a day one gun, the Revolver’s spec sheet is exactly what you want: cheap, forgiving on capacity, and a stepping stone rather than a dead end.

How to Craft the Revolver in Rust

The Revolver is a Workbench 1 craft, which is as low as guns go. You need two things: the blueprint unlocked, and the materials in your inventory.

How to craft the Revolver in Rust: the recipe is 125 metal fragments, 25 cloth and 1 metal pipe at Workbench Level 1 with a 30 second craft time, and the metal pipe is the only part you may have to loot or craft from metal blades and rope
The Revolver recipe, part by part. The Metal Pipe is the only piece you might have to hunt for.

The recipe. One Revolver costs 125 Metal Fragments, 25 Cloth and 1 Metal Pipe at a Workbench Level 1, and the craft takes 30 seconds. The metal fragments and cloth are trivial, you will have hundreds of both within an hour of spawning. The only piece that ever gives players trouble is the Metal Pipe.

  1. Unlock the blueprint. The Revolver is not known by default. Put one on a research table with 30 scrap to learn it, or unlock it on the tier 1 tech tree. At 30 scrap the research route is almost free.
  2. Get a Metal Pipe. It is a component, not a raw material. You loot Metal Pipes from crates, barrels and recycling road signs, or craft one from 2 Metal Blades and 1 Rope. Most players just have a few from farming barrels.
  3. Gather fragments and cloth. 125 Metal Fragments comes from smelting a small pile of metal ore, and 25 Cloth comes from hemp plants or a few animal kills. Both are day one materials.
  4. Build the workbench. Workbench 1 costs 500 Wood and 100 Metal Fragments and needs no bench to build, so it is usually the first thing a new base gets.
  5. Craft it. With the blueprint learned and the parts in hand, queue the Revolver at any Workbench 1. 30 seconds later you are armed.
Tip At 30 scrap, always research the Revolver the first time you loot or craft one. It is one of the cheapest blueprints in the game, and once learned it is permanent for the wipe, so you can rebuild a fresh Revolver after every death for the cost of a few fragments and a pipe.

How to Get a Revolver in Rust

There are two routes to a Revolver, and because it is an early game gun, both of them are fast.

How to get a Revolver in Rust: craft it at Workbench 1 after unlocking the blueprint for 30 scrap at a research table or on the tier 1 tech tree using 125 metal fragments, 25 cloth and 1 metal pipe, or loot one from military and normal crates, roadside barrels, dead scientists and starter town loot rooms
Craft it in 30 seconds at a Workbench 1, or loot one from crates and barrels on wipe day.

Craft it (the reliable way). Once you have a Workbench 1 and the blueprint, you can make a Revolver any time you have the parts, which on a normal wipe is essentially always. This is how most players hold a Revolver: as a cheap, replaceable sidearm you rebuild without a second thought whenever you lose one.

Loot it (the wipe day way). Before you even have a workbench, a looted Revolver is a real upgrade over a bow. Revolvers and their pistol ammo turn up in Military Crates and normal wooden crates at almost every monument, in roadside barrels, on dead scientists, and in the loot rooms of starter towns. Because it is such low tier loot, it is common. If you are running the roads on the first night of a wipe, you will usually find a Revolver before you can craft one.

Revolver Ammo Types

The Revolver fires the same three pistol rounds as every other pistol in the game, which is a big part of its value. Damage below is per body shot from the Revolver.

The three pistol ammo types the Revolver can fire in Rust: standard Pistol Bullet at 35 damage, about 200 DPS and 300 metres per second, HV Pistol Ammo at 35 damage and 400 metres per second for the flattest drop, and Incendiary Pistol Bullet at about 39 damage and 224 DPS which is the highest damage and sets small fires
Three pistol rounds, three jobs. Standard for value, HV for range, incendiary for extra damage.
  • Pistol Bullet (standard). 35 damage, about 200 DPS. The default round. Cheapest to craft, most accurate, and what you run for almost all early PvP.
  • HV Pistol Ammo. Same 35 damage, but a much faster bullet (roughly 400 m/s versus 300). Flatter drop and less lead needed, so it is the best round for hitting anything at range with a gun that has no scope.
  • Incendiary Pistol Bullet. Around 39 damage, roughly 224 DPS, the highest damage per pistol shot, and it sets small fires and lights up the target in the dark. The trade is a slower, arcing bullet and a bright tracer that gives your position away.
Why shared ammo matters Every pistol bullet you craft or loot for your Revolver works in the Semi-Auto Pistol, the Python, the M92 and the SMGs. Nothing is wasted when you upgrade, so it is worth stockpiling pistol ammo early even while you are still running the cheapest gun that fires it.

Revolver Shots to Kill

The question every new player actually wants answered is how many shots it takes to drop someone. Here are the breakpoints against an unarmoured target.

How many revolver shots to kill in Rust: against an unarmoured 100 HP player it takes 3 body shots at 35 damage each or 2 headshots at 70 damage each, limbs take about 5, the 8 round cylinder gives you more tries than the Python or a double barrel, it fires as fast as you click, and body armour adds a shot or two so close the distance
Two headshots or three body shots on a naked. The 8 round cylinder gives you room to miss.

Against a naked, unarmoured player with 100 health, the Revolver kills in 3 body shots (35 each) or 2 headshots (70 each). Hits to the arms and legs do reduced damage, so a pure limb spray can take five or more. The real advantage over a harder hitting pistol is the eight round cylinder: even a shaky player has room to miss a few times and still land the kill before reloading.

Armour changes everything Those breakpoints are for a naked target. The moment your opponent has a wood chestplate, a road sign kit or a metal facemask, every number goes up, and the Revolver’s low base damage means it climbs fast. Against a geared player the Revolver is a finisher and a surprise weapon, not a duelling gun. Close the distance and aim for the head.

It is worth being honest about raiding too: the Revolver is a PvP gun, not a raiding tool. Pistol bullets do almost nothing to a wooden door and less than nothing to stone, so do not try to shoot your way into a base with one. For that you want explosives; check the raid cost calculator before you waste anything.

Revolver vs Semi-Auto Pistol vs Python

The Revolver is the bottom rung of a three gun pistol ladder, and knowing when to climb it is half the value of understanding the gun.

Revolver versus Semi-Automatic Pistol versus Python in Rust compared side by side: the Revolver does 35 damage at 343 RPM with an 8 round cylinder at Workbench 1 and takes no attachments, the Semi-Auto Pistol does 40 damage at 400 RPM with a 10 round magazine at Workbench 1 and takes a silencer, and the Python does 55 damage at 400 RPM with 6 rounds at Workbench 2 and is the best pistol in the game
The pistol ladder: cheap Revolver, all round Semi-Auto, hard hitting Python. Same ammo throughout.
PistolDamageRPMCapacityWorkbenchAttachments
Revolver353438WB1None
Semi-Auto Pistol4040010WB1Takes a silencer & sight
Python554006WB2None

Revolver vs Semi-Auto Pistol. Both are Workbench 1 guns, so this is the real early game choice. The Semi-Auto Pistol (SAP) does more damage (40 versus 35), fires faster, holds ten rounds and, crucially, takes attachments like a silencer and a sight. The Revolver’s only edges are that it is a touch cheaper and slightly more scrap efficient to unlock. In practice, once you can comfortably make a SAP, it is the better gun. The Revolver’s niche is being the very first thing you craft, before you have the components for a SAP.

Revolver vs Python. This is not really a fair fight, and it is not meant to be. The Python is the best pistol in Rust: 55 damage a shot, a two headshot kill on most targets even through light armour, and a fast, tight fire rate. It costs more and needs a Workbench 2, so it arrives later in a wipe. The Revolver is the gun you use to survive long enough to build toward a Python, and because they share pistol ammo, everything you farm for the Revolver feeds directly into the Python later.

The simple rule Craft a Revolver the second you hit Workbench 1. Move to a Semi-Auto Pistol once you have the components, and to a Python once you have a Workbench 2. All three fire the same pistol rounds, so upgrading never wastes the ammo you have banked.

Revolver Recycle Value

A spare Revolver is not worth hoarding, but it is worth recycling. Because it is such a cheap gun, the return is modest, but a spare pistol you are never going to use is still a small pile of fragments, cloth and a chance at your Metal Pipe back.

Revolver recycle value in Rust: a charged green recycler returns about 75 metal fragments, 15 cloth and 1 metal pipe at 60 percent yield, an unpowered green recycler returns about 63 fragments, 12 cloth and 1 metal pipe at 50 percent, and a safe zone recycler returns about 50 fragments, 10 cloth and 1 metal pipe at 40 percent, with the metal pipe as a chance on top
What a spare Revolver is worth. Not much, but the Metal Pipe alone is worth the trip to a recycler.

A recycled Revolver returns roughly 60% of the fragments and cloth you put in at a standard monument recycler, plus a chance to hand back its Metal Pipe. Exact amounts scale with the recycler’s yield tier, but the pipe is the piece worth caring about, since it saves you crafting or looting another one. The rule is simple: never drop a spare Revolver on the ground, recycle it, and keep the pipe for your next one.

Revolver Skins

There are over fifty Revolver skins in Rust, from Steam Workshop community skins to marketplace items, and popular picks include the Eightball, Shamanism, Hot-tempered and Redemption Revolvers. Every one of them is purely cosmetic. A skin changes how your Revolver looks and nothing else.

Skins never change stats No Revolver skin affects damage, fire rate, capacity, reload or accuracy. There is no pay to win Revolver. A default Revolver and the most expensive skinned one shoot exactly the same, so buy a skin because you like how it looks, never because you think it shoots better.

Revolver Pro Tips

  1. Research it immediately. At 30 scrap the Revolver blueprint is nearly free. Learn it the first time you get one so you can rebuild for a handful of fragments forever.
  2. Aim for the head. Two headshots kill a naked. The Revolver’s low body damage means headshots are where it earns its keep, so practise the click.
  3. Use the eight rounds. Its capacity is its edge. You have more shots than a Python or a double barrel, so keep firing measured shots rather than panicking after two misses.
  4. Carry HV rounds for range. With no scope, the flatter bullet drop of HV Pistol Ammo makes distant hits far more achievable.
  5. Stockpile pistol ammo early. It carries straight over to the Semi-Auto Pistol and the Python, so farming it now is never wasted.
  6. Treat it as disposable. The whole point of the Revolver is that it is cheap. Do not play scared with it, use it aggressively and craft another when it is gone.
  7. It all wipes anyway. Your Revolver, its blueprint and your base reset on the monthly force wipe, so there is no reason to save one. Spend it.

Don’t get caught out by the wipe. The monthly force wipe resets the map, your base, your blueprints and every gun you own. Check the live countdown before you plan your next wipe.

Revolver Rust FAQ

How do you make a Revolver in Rust?

You craft it at a Workbench Level 1 from 125 Metal Fragments, 25 Cloth and 1 Metal Pipe, and the craft takes 30 seconds. First you have to unlock the blueprint, which costs just 30 scrap at a research table or a spot on the tier 1 tech tree. The Metal Pipe is the only component you might have to loot or craft (from 2 Metal Blades and 1 Rope); the fragments and cloth are day one materials.

How much damage does the Revolver do in Rust?

35 damage per body shot with standard Pistol Bullet ammo, doubled to 70 on a headshot. That works out to roughly 200 firing DPS at its ~343 RPM. Incendiary Pistol Bullets raise it to about 39 damage per shot, the highest of any pistol round, at the cost of a slower bullet and a visible tracer. The 35 base damage is the lowest of any pistol in Rust, which is the trade for how cheap the gun is.

How many shots does it take to kill with the Revolver?

Against an unarmoured player with 100 health it is a 3 body shot or 2 headshot kill. Limb hits do less, so a spray to the arms and legs can take five or more. Any armour, such as a wood chestplate, road sign kit or metal facemask, raises those numbers, and because the Revolver hits softly they climb quickly. Aim for the head and close the distance against geared targets.

What ammo does the Revolver use in Rust?

All three pistol rounds. Standard Pistol Bullet does 35 damage and is the cheapest and most accurate. HV Pistol Ammo does the same damage but travels faster for a flatter drop, making it the best choice at range. Incendiary Pistol Bullet does about 39 damage, the most per shot, and sets small fires, but its slower arcing bullet and bright tracer give your position away. All three also work in the Semi-Auto Pistol, Python, M92 and SMGs.

Is the Revolver good in Rust?

It is good at exactly one thing: being a cheap, reliable first gun. As an early game and backup weapon it is excellent, since it fires every time, holds eight rounds and costs almost nothing to make or replace. As a main weapon it is outclassed by every other pistol and rifle because of its low damage and lack of attachments. Craft one on day one, use it to fight your way to better guns, and do not rely on it once you can make a Semi-Auto Pistol or Python.

Revolver or Semi-Auto Pistol in Rust?

The Semi-Auto Pistol is the better gun once you can make it. It does more damage (40 versus 35), fires faster, holds ten rounds instead of eight and takes attachments like a silencer and sight, which the Revolver cannot. The Revolver’s only real advantage is being a touch cheaper and quicker to unlock, so its niche is being the very first gun you craft, before you have the components for a SAP. When you can build a Semi-Auto Pistol, switch.

Revolver or Python in Rust?

The Python, easily, if you can afford it. It is the best pistol in the game at 55 damage a shot, but it needs a Workbench 2 and costs more, so it arrives later in a wipe. The Revolver is the stepping stone you use to survive until you can build a Python. They fire the same pistol ammo, so nothing you farm for the Revolver is wasted when you upgrade.

Does the Revolver take attachments in Rust?

No. The Revolver has no attachment slots at all, so you cannot fit a sight, a silencer, a laser or a muzzle mod. It is an iron sight gun as it comes. If you want a pistol that takes attachments early in a wipe, craft a Semi-Auto Pistol instead, which accepts a silencer and a holosight.

How do you unlock the Revolver blueprint in Rust?

Put a Revolver on a research table with 30 scrap to learn it permanently for the wipe, or unlock it on the tier 1 tech tree. At 30 scrap it is one of the cheapest blueprints in the game, so you should always research it the first time you get one. A learned blueprint lets you rebuild the gun as many times as you like for just the fragments, cloth and a Metal Pipe.

How many bullets does the Revolver hold in Rust?

Eight, the largest cylinder or magazine of any pistol in Rust. The Semi-Auto Pistol holds ten but is a magazine gun, while the harder hitting Python holds only six. That eight round capacity is the Revolver’s standout feature and the reason it forgives missed shots better than any other pistol.

Is the Revolver good for raiding in Rust?

No. The Revolver is a PvP gun, not a raiding tool. Pistol bullets do almost no damage to a wooden door and effectively nothing to stone, sheet metal or armoured walls. To break into a base you want explosives such as satchels, rockets or C4; check the raid cost calculator before you commit anything. The only thing a Revolver raids is the player standing in the doorway.

Do Revolver skins change stats in Rust?

No. Every skin in Rust is purely cosmetic and has zero effect on damage, fire rate, capacity, reload or accuracy. That applies to all fifty plus Revolver skins, from Eightball and Shamanism to Redemption. There is no pay to win Revolver skin. A default Revolver and the most expensive skinned one perform identically.

How much does the Revolver recycle for in Rust?

A recycled Revolver returns roughly 60% of its crafting materials at a standard monument recycler, which is about 75 Metal Fragments, 15 Cloth and a chance at its Metal Pipe, with safe zone recyclers paying less. The Metal Pipe is the part worth caring about, since getting one back saves you crafting or looting another. Always recycle a spare Revolver rather than dropping it.
