Uzi Rust: New 9mm SMG Stats, Folding Stock, Shield Use & Where to Find It (2026)

Rust weapons news, November 2026

The Uzi is in Rust. The new 9mm submachine gun went live with the Printed and Polished update on November 5, 2026. Its stock sets the fire mode: folded it is fully automatic and works with shields, unfolded it is semi-automatic and more accurate. You cannot craft it: the Uzi is loot only.

We first wrote this Uzi Rust guide from Facepunch’s commits (more than 80 on the “UZI 9mm” branch) while it was on staging. It is now checked against the official devblog and the live item data.

TL;DR The Uzi (smg.uzi) is a 9mm SMG that fires pistol ammo from a 32-round magazine at 750 RPM (12.5 rounds a second), the fastest SMG in the game, for 32.5 damage a bullet. Stock folded: full auto and works with a shield. Stock unfolded: semi auto with better accuracy. Hold the fire mode key to switch. It can’t be researched or crafted, so you get it from hackable locked crates (about 15%), elite crates (5%) and underwater lab crates (2%). 8x scope and burst module do not fit. Live since November 5, 2026.

Is the Uzi in Rust?

Yes. Facepunch calls it “the iconic new UZI 9mm Submachine Gun” in the November 5, 2026 devblog, and it shipped with that update and force wipe. Its shortname is smg.uzi and its item ID is 2125127001, which you need for admin spawn commands.

The gun was built on its own development branch, “UZI 9mm”, from late October: new firing and reload animations, a magazine that hides the top shell when empty, mag drop and shell ejection, a balance pass on November 2 that doubled its condition, loot spawns on November 3, and on November 4 a cheaper repair and an in-game tip when you equip it without a fire mode key bound.

How the Uzi Folding Stock Works

The Uzi’s big gimmick is its stock, and it doubles as the fire mode switch. Hold the fire mode button to fold or unfold it:

  • Stock folded: fully automatic and held one-handed, with your other arm free. This is the mode that works with shields.
  • Stock unfolded: semi-automatic and shouldered with two hands, with increased accuracy. Use it to tap at medium range.
  • Changing the stock takes a moment and blocks other actions like reloading. Holstering before it finishes cancels the change.
  • Mounted in an auto turret, the Uzi always uses its extended-stock properties.

Can You Use the Uzi With a Shield?

Rust Uzi and shields: the metal shield and wooden shields go in the backpack slot and work with the Uzi only when its stock is folded, next to an official Facepunch shot of players fighting behind shields
Folded stock plus a shield: the Uzi’s party trick.

Yes, with the stock folded. The commit reads “Add shield compatibility when stock is folded” (October 29). Shields came in with the Primitive update in February 2025: you equip one in your backpack slot, hold a compatible one-handed weapon, and the shield appears in your other hand. Holding right mouse raises it to block a share of frontal damage, at the cost of aiming down sights and sprinting. Facepunch has tuned them since (bigger hitbox only while raised, from the Spring Clean update), and they work with weapon racks.

Until now, shield users mostly ran pistols and one-handed melee. A folded Uzi gives them a full-auto option with a 32-round mag, which is a big deal for pushing through doorways and defending raids. It also explains a new Facepunch branch called “analytics_shield_damage”, merged on November 4, which suggests they plan to watch how much damage shields soak once the Uzi is out.

Where to Find the Uzi in Rust

Where to find the Rust Uzi, loot only since November 5 with no research or crafting: hackable locked crates 14.7 percent at oil rigs, ghost ships and Chinook drops, elite crates 5 percent with some ammo, underwater military crate variant 2 percent with ammo
Locked crates give the best odds.

You cannot research or craft the Uzi. A commit on October 29 reads “Disable researchable and craftable”, so it works like the LR-300 and M249: loot only, and it never goes on a tech tree. On November 3 Facepunch added its spawns:

Loot sourceChanceNotes
Hackable locked crate14.7%Oil rigs, ghost ships, Chinook drops; tuned so it doesn’t spawn “on top” of other guns
Elite crate5%Usually at 10 to 20% condition, with some ammo
Underwater crate (normal crate variant)2%Usually at 10 to 20% condition, with some ammo

To make room, the bolt action rifle and LR-300 got slightly less weight in hackable crates. Facepunch notes it is “likely to revisit this in a future update”. The Large Oil Rig is the most reliable locked crate run.

Uzi Attachments

Rust Uzi attachments: holosight, lasersight, muzzle brake, silencers, extended magazine, flashlight and handmade sight fit; 8x scope and burst module were removed on November 3
Most SMG attachments fit; the 8x scope and burst module do not.

The Uzi has a Picatinny rail that only appears on the model when you mount a sight, and it supports weapon charms. On November 3 Facepunch removed 8x scope and burst module compatibility. The rest of the usual SMG mods fit: holosight, handmade sight, small scope, lasersight, flashlight, muzzle brake, muzzle boost, extended magazine and the silencers. For spraying, a muzzle brake or lasersight is the natural pick.

Uzi vs MP5, Thompson and Custom SMG

Rust Uzi versus other SMGs: Uzi 32.5 damage, 32 round mag, 12.5 shots per second, loot only; MP5A4 37.5 damage, 30 mag, 10 per second, Workbench 3; Thompson 37.5 damage, 20 mag, 7.7 per second, Workbench 2; Custom SMG 30 damage, 30 mag, 10 per second, Workbench 2
Fastest of the four, with lighter hits than the MP5 and Thompson.
SMGDamageMagShots / sReloadHow you get it
Uzi32.53212.53.3 sLoot only
MP5A437.530104 sWorkbench 3
Thompson37.5207.74 sWorkbench 2
Custom SMG3030104 sWorkbench 2

On paper the Uzi trades a bit of damage per bullet for the highest fire rate and biggest magazine of the four, plus a faster reload. Its real edge is the shield. For how it stacks up against rifles, see our Rust weapons tier list, which we will update once it is live.

Tips for the Uzi

Rust Uzi tips: fold the stock for close quarters with a shield, bring plenty of pistol ammo, use a muzzle brake for spraying, a holosight at range, farm locked crates for the best drop odds, repair it at a repair bench
Fast guns eat ammo: bring a lot.
  1. Fold it indoors. Shield up, Uzi out, push through doors and up stairs.
  2. Carry spare ammo. At 12.5 rounds a second, a 32-round mag lasts under three seconds. Our ammo chart has the pistol ammo recipes.
  3. Extend it for range. The extended stock is the steadier mode when you are not using a shield.
  4. Run locked crates if you want one early. Elite and underwater crates are a bonus.
  5. Repair, don’t lose it. You can’t craft another, but you can repair it at a repair bench without a blueprint.

The Uzi lands with a lot else in the same patch, including the new blueprint system. Our November 2026 update hub lists every change, and the force wipe countdown shows exactly when it goes live.

Rust Uzi FAQ

Is there an Uzi in Rust?

Yes. The 9mm Uzi was added in the Printed and Polished update on November 5, 2026. It is loot only.

Can you craft the Uzi in Rust?

No. Research and crafting are disabled for the Uzi, so it is loot only, like the LR-300 and M249.

Where do you find the Uzi in Rust?

In hackable locked crates (about 14.7%), elite crates (about 5%) and the underwater military crate variant (about 2%), Elite and underwater crate Uzis usually spawn at 10 to 20% condition with some ammo.

Does the Uzi work with shields?

Yes, but only with the stock folded, which makes it a one-handed, fully automatic weapon. With the stock unfolded it is two-handed and semi-automatic, and the shield won’t come up.

What ammo does the Uzi use?

Pistol bullets, including HV and incendiary pistol ammo. It holds 32 rounds.

How much damage does the Uzi do?

32.5 per pistol bullet (65 on a headshot, 36.4 with incendiary ammo), at 750 rounds a minute on full auto.

Can you put an 8x scope on the Uzi?

No. Facepunch removed 8x scope and burst module compatibility on November 3. Holosight, lasersight, muzzle brake, extended mag, flashlight and silencers fit.

When was the Uzi added to Rust?

On November 5, 2026, with the Printed and Polished update and force wipe.
