What Is the Pookie Bear in Rust?
The Pookie Bear is a small plush teddy bear that Facepunch added in Devblog 91 on 17 December 2015. Its in-game description calls it “a companion that reminds you of your youth”. It has been part of the Christmas event ever since.
- It’s a deployable. You place it on the ground or on a foundation, the same way you would place a box or a campfire.
- It’s a comfort source. Anyone standing near it gets the Comfort status, at the full 100%.
- It’s seasonal. It only enters the game through Christmas-event loot, so most wipes nobody has one.
- It isn’t craftable. There is no blueprint to learn and no research table trick. It only comes from Christmas loot: Medium Presents, Gingerbread Dungeons and Large Stockings.
On paper it looks like decoration. In practice it’s one of the few ways to get a full heal from comfort, which is why players drag it into raid bases and onto shooting floors.
How to Get a Pookie Bear in Rust
During the Christmas event, the current Facepunch Wiki the Pookie Bear comes from these loot sources:
- Medium Present. Each unwrap has about a 10.6% chance to give a Pookie Bear. This is the source most players get theirs from.
- Gingerbread Dungeon. Its seasonal loot has a 10.6% chance to include one Pookie Bear.
- Gingerbread Melee Dungeon. This variant also lists a 10.6% chance for one bear.
- Large Stocking. Each refill has a 3.2% chance to give between one and three bears.
- Trade with players. On a busy server, vending machines and player trades may be faster than repeatedly rolling event loot.
The Christmas event spawns gift boxes around players every in-game day, and those break into small and medium presents. Upgrading 10 small presents gives you another medium, so every stack of smalls is one more roll at the bear. Full odds are in our Rust presents guide.
How Comfort Works in Rust
Comfort is a status that shows up when you stand near certain objects. The higher your comfort, the higher your health can climb on its own. A lit campfire or a running furnace only gives about 50% comfort. The Pookie Bear gives 100%.
| Comfort level | Typical source | Heals you up to |
|---|---|---|
| 0% | Out in the open | No comfort healing |
| 50% | Lit campfire or running furnace | About 81 HP |
| 75% | Several comfort sources together | About 91 HP |
| 100% | Pookie Bear | 100 HP |
Pookie Bear Healing Rules
The bear doesn’t heal you by itself. It raises your comfort, and comfort unlocks passive healing only when your other stats are in good shape.
- Food above 100. Comfort healing only runs while your hunger bar is over 100. Eat something cooked first. Our milk and cream guide and livestock guide cover the newer food sources.
- Stay hydrated. If you’re badly dehydrated, the passive healing stops. Keep a water bottle or clean water on you.
- Stay close. Comfort only reaches you inside a small radius around the bear. Step away and it drops off.
What Comfort Does for You
- Faster regen. Health climbs back on its own while you stay fed and watered.
- Higher heal cap. At 100% comfort, that regen carries you all the way to full health instead of stopping short.
- Radiation relief. Comfort helps soften the effects of radiation, which is handy after a run through a rad zone. A hazmat suit is still what keeps the rads off in the first place.
Where to Place a Pookie Bear
- Shooting floor. The classic spot. You heal between peeks while you hold the roof.
- Raid base. Raids can run for a long time. A bear in your raid base keeps the whole team topped up while you wait on the next rocket. Plan the raid itself with our Rust raid calculator.
- Base core. Near your loot room and tool cupboard, so you heal up every time you come back from a roam.
- Online defence. Behind your walls where defenders regroup between fights.

When Can You Get a Pookie Bear?
The bear only drops while the Christmas event is running. In recent years, Facepunch has turned it on in mid December and left it running into early January. In 2025, the Christmas event news landed around 18 December. The event dates for 2026 haven’t been announced yet.
- Thursday 3 December 2026: December force wipe. Everyone starts fresh, with no bears.
- Mid December: the Christmas event is expected to start, and presents begin spawning.
- Early January: the event ends. Bears you already own stay in your base until the next wipe.
- Thursday 7 January 2027: January force wipe. Every bear is gone.
Some community servers switch the Christmas event on outside December, so if you want a bear in the middle of the year, look for a server that runs its own holiday event. Our Rust servers page is a good place to start.
The next chance for a Pookie Bear starts after the December force wipe. See exactly how long is left.
Force Wipe CountdownPookie Bear Pro Tips
- Run the right event loot. Stack small presents into mediums, run Gingerbread Dungeons and keep Large Stockings refilling.
- Eat before you sit. Get your food above 100 first or the bear does nothing for your health.
- Pair it with a campfire. The campfire cooks your food and keeps you warm in winter biomes, and the bear gives you the full heal.
- Keep a spare at home. If you pull more than one, leave one in your base core and take the other out raiding.
- Watch your decay and upkeep. A bear only helps if the base around it is still standing.
