Syringes run out. Medkits cost low grade you would rather burn in a furnace. Healing Tea is the heal you can grow at home: one Pure tea gives you 85 HP in 30 seconds from nothing but red berries, which is more than two syringes put together.
This healing tea Rust guide covers how much each tier heals, the 4 red berry recipe, how many berries a Pure tea really costs, our HP per berry math, the creamy and milky versions from the Livestock update, how it compares to syringes and medkits, and when to drink it.
What Is Healing Tea in Rust?
Healing Tea is one of the ten tea types you mix at a Mixing Table. The game describes the Pure version as a tea that “provides hydration and heals a large amount over time.” It is the only tea that restores health directly. The others boost something else, like ore, scrap or your maximum health.
Most of the heal comes as health over time: your bar climbs steadily for 30 seconds after you drink it. The Advanced and Pure tiers also give a small instant heal. Every tier gives +30 hydration, so it doubles as a drink when you are out of water.
In the game files the three tiers are healingtea, healingtea.advanced and healingtea.pure. You can spawn one on your own server with this command:
inventory.give healingtea.pure 1
Every other ID is in our Rust item IDs list.
Healing Tea Tiers: Basic, Advanced and Pure
| Tier | Instant | Over 30 s | Total | Recipe | Item ID |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic Healing Tea | 0 | +30 | 30 HP | 4 Red Berries | -929092070 |
| Advanced Healing Tea | +5 | +50 | 55 HP | 4 Basic teas | -2123125470 |
| Pure Healing Tea | +10 | +75 | 85 HP | 4 Advanced teas | -1677315902 |
| Creamy Pure Healing Tea | +18 | +97 | 115 HP | 1 Pure tea + 3 Cream | -132349657 |
| Milky Pure Healing Tea | +10 | +112 | 122 HP | 1 Pure tea + 3 Milk | -1644292642 |
All tiers stack to 10 in one slot. If you drop them, Basic despawns after 20 minutes, Advanced after 40 and Pure after an hour. Basic Healing Tea can also turn up in food caches, so check them on your runs.
Healing Tea Recipe
Healing Tea has the simplest recipe of any tea: one berry colour, four of them. Mix it at a Mixing Table (Workbench 1, 200 metal fragments and 100 stones) or at a Cooking Workbench. Neither needs power or fuel.
- Basic: put 4 Red Berries into the four input slots and press Start Mixing. It takes 5 seconds.
- Advanced: put 4 Basic Healing Teas in and mix again.
- Pure: put 4 Advanced Healing Teas in and mix one last time.
How Many Berries Healing Tea Costs (and HP per Berry)
Because each tier takes four of the one below, the berry bill grows fast: 4 for Basic, 16 for Advanced and 64 for Pure. The healing does not grow at the same rate. We divided each tier’s total heal by the red berries it costs:
| Tier | Red berries | Total heal | HP per berry | HP per inventory slot (stack of 10) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | 4 | 30 | 7.5 | 300 |
| Advanced | 16 | 55 | 3.4 | 550 |
| Pure | 64 | 85 | 1.3 | 850 |
So there is a real choice. Basic tea is almost six times better per berry, which makes it the right call early in a wipe or on a small farm. Pure tea is the better PvP item: 85 HP from one drink and 850 HP of healing in a single slot. Farm red berries in a planter with good genes, add fertilizer, and our Rust farming guide walks through the whole setup.
Creamy and Milky Pure Healing Tea
The Livestock update (October 1, 2026) added dairy versions of the Pure teas. You craft them at a Workbench 1 from one Pure Healing Tea plus three milk or cream. It takes 15 seconds at Workbench 1, 7.5 at Workbench 2 and 3.75 at Workbench 3.
- Creamy Pure Healing Tea (1 Pure + 3 Cream): +18 instant and +97 over time, 115 HP in total, plus 45 calories and 30 hydration. Pick it when you need the most health right now.
- Milky Pure Healing Tea (1 Pure + 3 Milk): +10 instant and +112 over time, 122 HP in total, plus 90 calories and 45 hydration. It is the biggest single heal you can drink in Rust.
Both still stack to 10 and despawn after an hour on the ground.
Healing Tea vs Syringe, Medkit and Bandage
| Heal | Instant | Over time | Total | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bandage | +5 | 0 | 5 | 4 cloth, stops bleeding |
| Basic Healing Tea | 0 | +30 | 30 | 4 red berries |
| Medical Syringe | +15 | +20 | 35 | WB2, 15 cloth, 10 low grade, 10 frags |
| Pure Healing Tea | +10 | +75 | 85 | 64 red berries |
| Large Medkit | +10 | +100 | 110 | WB2, 2 syringes + 10 low grade |
| Milky Pure Healing Tea | +10 | +112 | 122 | Pure tea + 3 milk |
The syringe still wins on instant health: 15 HP the moment you inject it, which matters mid-fight. Tea wins on total health and on cost, since it needs no cloth or low grade fuel. The best setup is both: syringe to survive the fight, tea to fill back up while you loot. Tea does not stop bleeding, so carry a bandage too.
When to Drink Healing Tea
- After a gunfight. Drink it as soon as you are safe and the 30 second heal runs while you loot the bodies.
- Monuments with waves. On Large Oil Rig and Cargo Ship, sip between floors so you start every room near full health without spending syringes.
- After a syringe. Use the syringe for the instant 15, then the tea to top up the rest.
- With Max Health Tea. Different tea types run at the same time. A Pure Max Health Tea lifts you to 120 HP, and a Pure Healing Tea fills most of that bar.
Healing Tea Tips
- Mix Basic early wipe. Four berries per drink and the best HP per berry. Move up to Pure once your planters are running.
- Carry Pure for PvP. One slot of ten Pure teas holds 850 HP of healing.
- Milk your best teas. If you keep cows, three milk turns 85 HP into 122.
- Save your syringes for the moments you need instant health, and use tea everywhere else.
- Bank them in your base. Pure tea lasts an hour if dropped, so keep a stack in a box by your door rather than on your body when you roam light.
- Remember it is a drink. +30 hydration per tea means you can skip water on a long trip.
Healing Tea is part of our Rust food and drink guide, and every other tea is on the Mixing Table page. Planning your farm around the next wipe? Check when the next Rust force wipe is so your berries are ready on day one.
Healing Tea FAQ
What is the healing tea recipe in Rust?
4 Red Berries make one Basic Healing Tea at a Mixing Table or Cooking Workbench in 5 seconds. 4 Basic teas make an Advanced tea and 4 Advanced teas make a Pure tea, so a Pure Healing Tea costs 64 red berries.
How much does Pure Healing Tea heal?
85 HP in total: 10 HP instantly and 75 HP over 30 seconds. It also gives 30 hydration.
How much do Basic and Advanced Healing Tea heal?
Basic Healing Tea heals 30 HP over 30 seconds. Advanced Healing Tea heals 5 HP instantly plus 50 HP over 30 seconds, 55 HP in total.
Is healing tea better than a syringe in Rust?
For total healing, yes. A Pure Healing Tea heals 85 HP against the Medical Syringe’s 35. The syringe gives more instant health (15 against 10), so use the syringe mid-fight and the tea afterwards.
What is Milky Pure Healing Tea?
A Pure Healing Tea crafted with 3 Milk at a Workbench 1. It heals 10 HP instantly and 112 HP over time, 122 HP in total, and gives 90 calories and 45 hydration.
What is Creamy Pure Healing Tea?
A Pure Healing Tea crafted with 3 Cream at a Workbench 1. It heals 18 HP instantly and 97 HP over time, plus 45 calories and 30 hydration. Both dairy teas came with the Livestock update on October 1, 2026.
Which tier of healing tea is the best value?
Basic gives the most healing per berry (7.5 HP per red berry against 1.3 for Pure). Pure gives the most healing per drink and per inventory slot, which is what matters in a fight.
Can you drink healing tea with other teas?
Yes. Different tea types run at the same time, so Healing Tea pairs well with Max Health Tea for PvP or with Ore Tea on a farming run.
Does healing tea stop bleeding?
No. Healing Tea restores health but does not stop bleeding. Use a Bandage or Honey Bandage for that.
