Yes, there is a Rust mobile game now, but you can’t download the full version yet. Rust Mobile is the official phone version of Rust, licensed by Facepunch Studios and published by Level Infinite, Tencent’s global games brand. It has been through an alpha and two closed betas on Android and iOS, and it still has no global release date as of October 2026.
This guide covers everything about Rust on mobile: what Rust Mobile is, every test so far, how it differs from PC Rust, the phone you need, how to sign up for the next beta without getting scammed, how to play the real game on your phone right now through streaming, and where the Rust+ companion app fits in. Everything was checked against Facepunch’s Rust Mobile page, Level Infinite’s press releases and beta coverage in October 2026.

Is There a Rust Mobile Version?
Yes. For years the honest answer was “no, only clones”, but that changed in late 2024. Tencent started testing a Rust-style survival game in China under the codename Outpost, and it was confirmed shortly after as Rust Mobile, an officially licensed version of Rust. Facepunch has its own Rust Mobile page saying the game is officially authorised and endorsed by Facepunch Studios, and that it will come to both Android and iOS.
It is important to know what that means. Rust Mobile is not a port of the PC game and it is not made by Facepunch’s own team. It is a separate game built for phones by Tencent’s teams and published worldwide by Level Infinite (the same brand behind Honor of Kings and Arena Breakout). It keeps the Rust loop you know (wake up with a rock, gather, craft, build a base, raid and get raided), but it has its own servers, its own modes and its own progression.
Rust Mobile Release History and Betas
| Date | Test | Where and who |
|---|---|---|
| Late 2024 | “Outpost” closed tests | China, under a codename |
| February 15, 2025 | 7-day alpha | Canada only, Android only, limited phones |
| April 16, 2025 | 7-day closed beta | China, Android and iOS |
| August 2025 | Official trailer and hands-on demo | Gamescom 2025 |
| December 11, 2025 | 1st Closed Beta (CBT1) | Selected regions in North America, Europe and Asia, after 1 million pre-registrations |
| July 9, 2026 | Regional beta | Hong Kong and Macau, Android |
| August 23 to September 30, 2026 | 2nd Closed Beta | North America, Europe, Latin America, Middle East and Asia; Android plus limited iOS on TestFlight |
The first closed beta showed off three survival modes (Hardcore, Standard and Territory Clash), a touch-first interface and progression tuned for shorter sessions, and a new cinematic trailer played at The Game Awards 2025. By the time the second beta was announced, Level Infinite said Rust Mobile had passed 3 million pre-registrations. The second beta added 30,000 new test slots and opened more regions, including Latin America and the Middle East for the first time.
Rust Mobile Release Date
There is no confirmed global release date for Rust Mobile as of October 21, 2026. Here is what is known:
- China comes first. Reports in spring 2026 pointed to a China launch window of July 2026 on PC, Android, iOS and HarmonyOS, but Tencent never confirmed a final date, and the July test that followed was a regional beta in Hong Kong and Macau rather than a full launch.
- Global follows China. Level Infinite has not announced a worldwide date. Two closed betas in under a year, plus 3 million-plus pre-registrations, suggest it is getting close, but anyone quoting an exact day is guessing.
- The second beta has ended. It closed on September 30, 2026. No third beta has been announced yet.
We will update this page when a date is announced. If you just want to know when the PC game resets, our Rust force wipe countdown on the home page tracks every monthly wipe, and our Rust release date guide covers the history of the PC and console versions.
Rust Mobile vs PC Rust
| Feature | Rust (PC) | Rust Mobile (beta) |
|---|---|---|
| Developer / publisher | Facepunch Studios | Tencent teams, published by Level Infinite, licensed by Facepunch |
| Price | Paid, on Steam | Free to play with cosmetic purchases |
| Servers | Official, community and modded | Official servers only in the betas |
| Modes | One survival ruleset, set per server | Hardcore, Standard, Territory Clash (15-minute 4v6 PvP) and a softer mode |
| Raiding | Any time, any day | Only in set daily raid windows on Standard |
| Controls | Mouse and keyboard | Touch controls built for phones |
| Mods and plugins | Oxide, Carbon | None |
| Crossplay | Windows with Mac | Mobile only, never with PC or console |
| Skins | Steam Workshop and Item Store | Separate in-game store, nothing carries over |
Beta players said that once you are in a server, gathering, crafting, building and gunfights feel very close to PC. The big difference is structure. PC Rust is one brutal ruleset where you can be raided offline at 4 a.m.; Rust Mobile splits players into modes, and its Standard mode only allows raids at set times each day, which suits people who play in short sessions. Hardcore is the closest thing to the PC experience.
Rust Mobile Requirements
Facepunch says exact device specs will be revealed closer to release. Until then, the best guide is what the betas asked for:
- Second closed beta (Aug 2026), Android: Android 10 or newer, a Snapdragon 710-class processor or equivalent, 4 GB of RAM and about 20 GB of free storage.
- iPhone: a limited number of iOS players were let in through Apple TestFlight. If you were in an earlier iOS test, you had to register again.
- Canada alpha (Feb 2025): much stricter, only a short list of high-end Android phones, around Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 with 6 GB of RAM.
The trend is good news: requirements dropped a lot between the alpha and the second beta. A mid-range phone from the last few years should cope, but you will want a cooler, a charger and ideally a controller for long sessions.
How to Join the Rust Mobile Beta
- Register on the official site. Each beta so far opened sign-ups on rustmobile.com a few weeks before it started.
- Pre-register on Google Play. The official listing is published by Proxima Beta (Level Infinite). Pre-registering gets you a notification when tests or the launch go live.
- Follow the official Discord and socials. Test dates, regions and the iOS TestFlight link are posted there first.
- Watch your region. Betas are region-locked. If your country is not in the list, you will not get in, even with an invite.
How to Play Rust on Your Phone Right Now
If you want to play the actual Rust, with your friends and your servers, streaming is the way. There are three legit options:
| Method | What you play | What you need | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| NVIDIA GeForce NOW | PC Rust on normal PC servers | Rust on Steam, the GeForce NOW app, a fast connection | Players without a gaming PC |
| Steam Link app | PC Rust from your own PC | A gaming PC at home, same network for best results | Checking your base from the sofa |
| PS Remote Play / Xbox remote play | Rust Console Edition | Your PS5 or Xbox Series, the PlayStation or Xbox app | Console players |
GeForce NOW is the closest thing to “Rust on mobile” today. Rust is in its library, you sign in with the Steam account that owns it, and you join the same servers as Windows and Mac players, including any server on our Rust server list. Pick a server near your GeForce NOW region to keep ping low. The free tier has queues and session limits, so serious players use a paid tier.
Whatever you use, get a Bluetooth controller. Rust’s PC controls need a full keyboard, and on-screen touch overlays are painful in a gunfight. Console Edition through Remote Play already uses controller controls, so it feels the most natural on a phone.
Rust+ on Your Phone
When people search for Rust on mobile, they often mean Rust+, the official free companion app from Facepunch for iOS and Android. It launched on June 4, 2020 and works with PC Rust only; Console Edition is not supported. You can’t play Rust in it, but it is the most useful thing to have on your phone during a wipe:
- Live map with your team’s positions, vending machines and events like Cargo Ship and the attack helicopter.
- Team chat that syncs with in-game chat, and optional alerts when a teammate comes online.
- Smart Alarms that send a push notification when they get power, the classic phone raid alarm. Wire one to an auto turret‘s Has Target output or a sensor.
- Smart Switches to turn turrets, lights or a SAM site on and off from your phone.
- Storage Monitors that show your tool cupboard’s upkeep timer and box contents; see our storage monitor guide.
To set it up, join a server, open the Escape menu, pick the Rust+ option and accept the pairing on your phone. Then look at each smart device, hold E and choose Pair. Pairings belong to the player who made them and clear on wipe. If you run your own server, the app uses TCP port 28082, as covered in our guide to hosting a Rust server. For full wiring diagrams, see our Rust electricity guide.
Fake Rust Mobile Games and Clones
Before Rust Mobile existed, app stores filled up with games that copy Rust’s look. The best known is Last Island of Survival (once called Last Day Rules: Survival), a free PvP base-building game that is often called “mobile Rust” but has nothing to do with Facepunch and is criticised for pay-to-win items. Last Day on Earth: Survival is the most popular mobile survival game, but it is more of a solo looter than a Rust-style PvP sandbox.
They are fine for scratching the itch, but they are not Rust, and none of your progress will carry into Rust Mobile. If you want the real thing on PC, our list of games like Rust covers the best alternatives, and our Rust Console Edition hub covers PlayStation and Xbox.

What phone do I need for Rust Mobile?
