Rust Console Edition: Updates, Wipes, Servers, Price & Roadmap (2026)

Rust Console Edition guide, October 2026

Rust Console Edition is the PlayStation and Xbox version of Rust. It is built by Double Eleven together with Facepunch, it runs natively on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and it lives on its own servers with its own update schedule, its own wipe day and its own skin store. If you play Rust on a controller, this is the game you own.

This hub covers everything a console player needs in one place: what Console Edition is, how it differs from PC Rust, its release history, every 2026 update so far and what the roadmap says is next, how console servers and wipes work, which edition to buy, and a few tips for your first wipe. Everything here was checked against Double Eleven’s patch notes and dev blogs and the PlayStation and Xbox store listings in October 2026.

TL;DR Rust Console Edition launched on May 21, 2021 for PS4 and Xbox One and went native on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in June 2025; the old-gen servers closed on October 30, 2025. It costs from $49.99, has crossplay between PlayStation and Xbox but never with PC, and its official servers wipe on the last Thursday of the month at 18:00 UTC. In 2026 it got Caves and Radtown (June 25), the Underground Train network (August 27) and patch 1.16 on Unity 6.3 (September 24). Halloween runs now, Overground Trains are on the test branch, and the roadmap lists the Excavator for November and a Christmas event for December.

What Is Rust Console Edition?

Rust Console Edition is a separate build of Rust made for controllers. Facepunch Studios makes Rust on PC; Double Eleven, a UK studio, develops the console version in partnership with Facepunch. The core game is the same: you wake up on a beach with a rock and a torch, gather wood and stone, build a base, protect it with a tool cupboard, run monuments for loot and raid (or get raided by) other players.

What changes is everything around that loop. Console Edition has its own servers, its own patch numbers (1.13, 1.15, 1.16 and so on), its own monthly wipe day, its own in-game skin store paid with Rust Coins, and a controller-first interface with radial menus for building and crafting. Content usually reaches console months after PC, and Double Eleven sometimes reworks or reorders it, so a PC guide is not always right for console.

Good to know Most of our item and monument guides apply to console too, since crafting costs, loot and raid numbers usually match. Where console is different, the guides say so.

Rust Console Edition vs PC Rust

Rust Console Edition vs PC: developer Facepunch versus Double Eleven, Steam versus PlayStation and Xbox stores, monthly wipe first Thursday versus last Thursday, F1 console yes versus no, mods Oxide and Carbon versus none, crossplay Windows and Mac versus PS5 and Xbox, new content first versus months later

Two of these trip up PC players most. There is no F1 console on PlayStation or Xbox, so none of the admin commands or console commands work there; server owners use the settings their host gives them. And there are no mods: console servers cannot run the Oxide or Carbon plugins covered in our Rust server mods guide.

Rust Console Edition Updates in 2026

Rust Console Edition updates 2026: June 25 Caves and Radtown in World 2.0 Part 2 patch 1.13, August 27 Underground trains patch 1.15, September 24 patch 1.16 with Unity 6.3 and unclaiming bags, October 15 Halloween, November Excavator on the roadmap, December Christmas, Overground trains tested on the PTB October 6 to 22
2026 has been console Rust’s busiest year.

Double Eleven said its first focus for 2026 was performance and server stability, then shipped World 2.0 in two parts and a run of big monthly updates. Console updates land with the monthly wipe, after a stint on the Public Test Branch (PTB).

  • World 2.0, Part 1 (spring 2026): the first big content drop of the year, reworking the world with new and updated monuments.
  • World 2.0, Part 2, patch 1.13 (June 25, 2026): procedurally generated Caves in 3 sizes and 3 difficulties (9 types you can build in), the small Radtown monument with radioactive buildings and barrels, Radioactive Water, a new food cache and a rebuilt in-game skin store.
  • Underground Trains, patch 1.15 (August 27, 2026): the tunnel network with subway entrances, drivable workcarts that run on low grade fuel, colour-coded train signals and hostile Tunnel Dwellers guarding the loot.
  • Patch 1.16 (September 24, 2026): the move to the Unity 6.3 engine for better performance and stability, the option to unclaim sleeping bags and beds by holding Square or X, fixes for minicopter seat-switching and transport helicopter fuel gauges.
  • Halloween (from October 15, 2026): the seasonal event is live on official servers now and runs into early November. PC got its own Darkness Falls update on October 22.

Rust Console Edition Roadmap: What’s Next

Double Eleven’s roadmap for the rest of 2026, published in May (Dev Blog #51), lists these as the next steps. Dates can move, so treat them as plans, not promises:

WhenWhatStatus
October 2026Overground Trains and Train Yard changesOn the PTB October 6 to 22, tested on 100, 150 and 200 player servers
October 2026Halloween eventLive since October 15
November 2026Excavator MonumentPlanned, not on console yet
December 2026Christmas eventPlanned
Through 2026Bigger servers (125 players and up)Rolling out
Excavator on console The Giant Excavator is a PC monument that has not reached Console Edition yet; it is on the roadmap for November 2026. Until then, the diesel mining loop in PC guides does not apply on console.

Rust Console Edition Servers and Wipe Schedule

Rust Console Edition servers and wipes: official servers run by Double Eleven, community servers rented through G-Portal, monthly wipe last Thursday 18:00 UTC, weekly servers every Thursday 18:00 UTC, server size 100 players with 125 rolling out, crossplay toggle PlayStation only, Xbox only or both
Official and community servers wipe on different schedules.

You find every server in the in-game browser, split into official servers run by Double Eleven and community servers rented by players and groups through G-Portal or Nitrado. Our Rust console servers guide explains how to find, join and rent one.

  • Monthly official servers wipe on the last Thursday of every month at 18:00 UTC. That is why console updates land at the end of the month (June 25, August 27 and September 24 in 2026). The October 2026 wipe falls on Thursday, October 29.
  • Weekly official servers wipe every Thursday at 18:00 UTC.
  • Community servers set their own wipe schedule, rules, gather rates and team limits, and the host decides whether the server is open to PlayStation, Xbox or both.
  • Blueprints usually stay through a normal map wipe on console; a blueprint wipe happens only when Double Eleven announces one.

Console times are pinned to UTC, so the local time moves with daylight saving: 18:00 UTC is 2 PM Eastern and 11 AM Pacific in summer, and 1 PM Eastern and 10 AM Pacific in winter. PC is on a different calendar entirely; our force wipe countdown tracks the PC force wipe on the first Thursday, and the Rust servers page lists popular PC servers. For every console wipe date, the time in your time zone and what each wipe resets, see our Rust console wipe schedule.

Rust Console Edition Editions and Price

Rust Console Edition editions: Standard 49.99 dollars is the base game with Public Test Branch access, Deluxe 59.99 adds the Tech Noir set and 1,100 Rust Coins, Ultimate 84.99 adds the Orion's Fury L96 and 4,600 Rust Coins, every edition has PTB access, Rust Coins buy skins in the in-game store and do not transfer to PC
Every edition is the same game; the extras are cosmetic.

Rust Console Edition for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S starts at $49.99 / £39.99 for the Standard edition. Three versions are sold:

  • Standard ($49.99): the full game, with Public Test Branch access.
  • Deluxe ($59.99): the game plus the Tech Noir skin set, a garage door skin and 1,100 Rust Coins.
  • Ultimate ($84.99): the game plus the Orion’s Fury L96 skin, the Tech Noir set, a garage door skin and 4,600 Rust Coins.

Since September 3, 2026 the Public Test Branch is open to every owner, not only Deluxe and Ultimate, so anyone can try updates like Overground Trains before they go live. No edition gives a gameplay advantage. Prices vary by region and Rust goes on sale often on both stores; our Rust on Xbox, PS4 and PS5 guide covers prices, sales, Game Pass and where to buy.

Skins, DLC and Rust Coins on Console

Console skins work differently from PC. There is no Steam Workshop or Steam Market on PlayStation or Xbox, so the Steam skins and Twitch drops PC players collect never show up on console. Instead you get skins from:

  • The in-game skin store, rebuilt in June 2026, which you pay for with Rust Coins bought from the PlayStation or Xbox store.
  • DLC packs sold on the platform stores, such as the Space Suit, Space LR-300 and Space Station Build packs from June 2026, or the 16-skin storage box pack around patch 1.16.
  • Edition bonuses from the Deluxe and Ultimate editions.

Rust Coins can only be used on the platform you bought them on, and nothing transfers between console and PC.

Rust Console Edition Crossplay

Console Edition has crossplay between PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Official servers mix both, and community hosts can lock a server to PlayStation only or Xbox only. There is no crossplay with PC and no cross-progression, so your progress, skins and Rust Coins stay on the console you bought the game on. Our Rust crossplay guide covers every platform pair in detail. Console players are also not counted on Steam charts, so the Rust player count on Steam is PC only.

Rust Console Edition Tips for New Players

Rust Console Edition tips: join right after the Thursday wipe, place a tool cupboard first, spread sleeping bags and hold Square or X to unclaim old ones, pick a crossplay server to play with the other console, get a hazmat suit early for Radtown and tunnels, use the underground trains to cross the map unseen
Six habits that make a console wipe easier.
  1. Join on wipe day. Thursday evenings (UTC) are when servers are freshest and everyone starts with nothing.
  2. Tool cupboard first. Put a tool cupboard down before anything else so nobody can build on your base, then keep it stocked to stop decay.
  3. Spread your sleeping bags. Place sleeping bags around the map, and since patch 1.16 hold Square or X to unclaim old ones.
  4. Get a hazmat suit early. Radtown, Military Tunnels and parts of the train network are radioactive; a hazmat suit lets you farm them.
  5. Use the trains. The underground network moves you across the map out of sight of other players, and the Train Yard is a solid monument run.
  6. Pick a crossplay server. If your friends are on the other console, filter for servers open to both PlayStation and Xbox.

Want something else to play between wipes? See our list of games like Rust on PS5 and Xbox.

Want Rust on your phone instead? The official Rust Mobile for Android and iOS is a separate game in closed beta, and console players can already stream Console Edition to a phone with PS Remote Play or Xbox remote play.

Rust Console Edition FAQ

What is Rust Console Edition?

Rust Console Edition is the PlayStation and Xbox version of Rust, developed by Double Eleven with Facepunch. It runs natively on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S and uses its own servers, updates and skin store, separate from PC Rust.

When did Rust Console Edition come out?

Rust Console Edition released on May 21, 2021 for PS4 and Xbox One. Native PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions followed in June 2025, and the PS4 and Xbox One servers closed on October 30, 2025.

Is Rust Console Edition the same as PC?

The core game is the same, but it is a separate build. Console has no F1 console, no mods, a different wipe day, its own skin store and gets new content later than PC, sometimes in a different order.

How much is Rust Console Edition?

The Standard edition starts at $49.99 (£39.99) on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Deluxe ($59.99) and Ultimate ($84.99) add skin packs and Rust Coins; every edition includes Public Test Branch access. Regional prices and sales vary.

When does Rust Console Edition wipe?

Monthly official servers wipe on the last Thursday of every month at 18:00 UTC, and weekly official servers wipe every Thursday at 18:00 UTC. Community servers set their own schedule. The October 2026 monthly wipe is on Thursday, October 29.

What is the latest Rust Console Edition update?

Patch 1.16, released September 24, 2026, moved the game to the Unity 6.3 engine and let players unclaim sleeping bags and beds. The Halloween event started October 15, and Overground Trains were on the Public Test Branch from October 6 to 22.

Is the Excavator on Rust Console Edition?

Not yet. Double Eleven’s 2026 roadmap lists the Excavator Monument for November 2026, so the PC diesel mining loop does not apply on console until it arrives.

Can Rust Console Edition play with PC?

No. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players can play together, but console and PC players can never share a server, and nothing carries over between them.

Is Rust Console Edition still on PS4 and Xbox One?

No. The PS4 and Xbox One versions were replaced by native PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions in June 2025, with a free upgrade for owners, and the old-gen servers closed on October 30, 2025.

Does Rust Console Edition have mods or admin commands?

No. Console servers can’t run Oxide or Carbon plugins, and there is no F1 console. Community server owners change their server with the built-in settings from their host.
