How Many Satchels for a Stone Wall in Rust? (Rockets, C4 & Explo) 2026

Rust raid cost, updated October 2026

A stone wall in Rust takes 10 satchel charges to break, which costs 4,800 sulfur. The same wall takes 2 C4 (4,400 sulfur), 4 rockets (5,600 sulfur) or 185 explosive 5.56 rounds (4,625 sulfur). C4 is the cheapest way through a stone wall, and satchels are the cheapest way if you don’t have a Workbench 3 yet. Explosives do the same damage to both faces, so the soft side doesn’t change these numbers.

Stone is the wall you will raid most often. It’s the first real upgrade every group makes, it’s cheap at 300 stones, and with 500 HP it is the line where twig and wood raiding stops and real sulfur starts. Below is every explosive that can break one, what each costs, how long it takes, and the cheapest way in.

4Rockets5,600 sulfur
2C44,400 sulfur
185Explo Ammo4,625 sulfur
TL;DR 10 satchels, 2 C4, 4 rockets or 185 explo ammo. C4 is cheapest at 4,400 sulfur. Bring 12 satchels if you’re using them, because satchels can dud. On the soft side, 7 pickaxes or 7 salvaged icepicks break it with no sulfur at all.

How Many Satchels for a Stone Wall?

10 satchel charges break a stone wall from either side. At 480 sulfur each that’s 4,800 sulfur, and landing all ten takes about 22 sec if nothing goes wrong.

Something usually goes wrong. Satchels can dud: the fuse fizzles and the charge just sits on the wall. You can walk up and relight it, but that’s a few seconds in the open next to a base that now knows you’re there. Craft 12 satchels for one stone wall, so a dud or two doesn’t leave you with a cracked wall and an empty inventory.

Satchels are the go-to for stone walls early in a wipe because they only need a Workbench 1 and a 100 scrap blueprint. The full recipe and dud fix are in our satchel charge guide.

How Many Rockets for a Stone Wall?

4 rockets break a stone wall, for 5,600 sulfur. That’s the most expensive of the main four options, but rockets hit from up to about 30 metres away and you never have to stand next to the wall. Firing four takes about 18 sec with reloads.

Use rockets on stone when the wall is in the open and covered by players or turrets, or when it’s high up and you can’t reach it to stick a charge. Otherwise C4 or satchels save you 800 to 1,200 sulfur per wall. More in our Rust rocket guide.

How Many C4 for a Stone Wall?

2 C4 break a stone wall, for 4,400 sulfur. That’s the cheapest explosive for stone and the fastest at about 12 sec: stick both, step back, and the wall is gone after the 10 second fuse.

One C4 isn’t enough. A single charge leaves the wall standing with a big chunk of HP gone, so always bring them in pairs. The recipe and blueprint path are in our C4 guide.

How Much Explo Ammo for a Stone Wall?

185 rounds of explosive 5.56 break a stone wall from the hard side, for 4,625 sulfur. With an AK or M39 it’s 182 rounds, and from the soft side it drops to about 173. Expect around 1 min 19 sec of steady fire with a semi-automatic rifle, faster with an automatic.

Explo ammo is close to C4 on price but it’s loud, slow and gives defenders plenty of time to respond. It also needs a Workbench 3, the same as C4. It shines on doors, not walls. See our explosive ammo guide.

Every Explosive vs a Stone Wall (Full Table)

Here is every explosive that can break a stone wall, sorted from the cheapest to the most expensive in sulfur. Amounts are for one undamaged stone wall in vanilla Rust, hitting the hard side. Raid time is how long it takes to land that many from the moment you start, with no defenders.

The Cheapest Way to Break a Stone Wall

With sulfur: 2 C4 for 4,400. Nothing else beats it on a stone wall. Explo ammo (4,625) and satchels (4,800) are close behind, and rockets (5,600), beancans (5,520) and HV rockets (6,400) are all worse.

Without sulfur: hit the soft side with tools. The soft side of a stone wall takes about ten times the melee damage of the hard side. 7 pickaxes (about 10 minutes) or 7 salvaged icepicks (about 8 minutes) break a stone wall from the soft side. From the hard side it’s 64 icepicks and well over an hour, so tools only make sense on the soft side. Our eco raid calculator has every tool and time.

Does the Stone Wall Soft Side Matter for Explosives?

Barely. C4, rockets and satchels do the same damage to both faces of a stone wall, so 2 C4, 4 rockets and 10 satchels are the same from either side. The only explosives that change are explosive 5.56 (185 hard, about 173 soft), HV rockets (32 hard, 31 soft) and 40mm HE grenades (29 hard, 27 soft).

The soft side matters for melee. It’s the face that should point into your base, and a wall placed the wrong way round shows its soft side to raiders. If a stone wall faces out on its soft side, it can be picked open with tools for zero sulfur. Our stone wall guide shows how to spot it and how to fix it.

Stone Wall vs Other Walls

Stone sits in the middle of Rust’s wall tiers. It doubles a wood wall’s 250 HP and needs a little under twice the explosives, while a sheet metal wall doubles it again to 1,000 HP and 4 C4. That jump is why raiders always look for a stone wall, a stone doorway or a cheap door on a metal base before they spend sulfur on metal.

Sheet metal wall1,0002384400

A high external stone wall has the same 500 HP and the same raid cost as a stone building wall: 10 satchels, 4 rockets or 2 C4. Stone foundations and floors match it too.

Tips for Raiding a Stone Wall

Tips for raiding a stone wall in Rust: C4 is the cheapest, pack 12 satchels for duds, use pickaxes or salvaged icepicks on the soft side, and check the door first, shown with a real in-game screenshot of wood, stone and sheet metal wall tiers and real item icons
Four ways to spend less sulfur on this target.
  1. Price the door before the wall. A sheet metal door in the same base is only 4 satchels, less than half the wall next to it.
  2. Bring spares. 12 satchels for 10 needed, or 3 C4 for 2 if a turret or a counter-raid might cost you one.
  3. Look for the soft side. If any stone wall faces out on its soft side, 7 pickaxes open it for free.
  4. Don’t half-break a wall. Damage stays on the wall, but so do the defenders. Finish what you start or don’t start.
  5. Check upkeep. A base with an empty tool cupboard decays, so its walls may already be damaged and cheaper than the numbers above.
