Wood Tea Rust: Recipe, Tiers & Best Wood Farming (2026)

Rust item guide, 2026

Wood is the resource you never have enough of. Every wall, every furnace load and every upkeep top-up eats it, and chopping trees is the slowest grind of early wipe. Drink a Wood Tea first and the same trees give one and a half, double or three times as much wood, for the same number of swings.

This Wood Tea Rust guide covers what the tea does, the exact bonus and timer for Basic, Advanced and Pure, the Red and Blue Berry recipe, how many berries a Pure tea really costs, what the bonus works on, the best tool to pair it with, and the maths on which tier to drink.

TL;DR Wood Tea is a berry tea you brew at a Mixing Table or Cooking Workbench. It increases the wood you get from trees. Basic gives +50%, Advanced gives +100% and Pure gives +200%, and every tier lasts 30 minutes. A Basic tea is 2 Red Berries and 2 Blue Berries; four Basics make an Advanced and four Advanced make a Pure, so one Pure costs 32 Red and 32 Blue Berries. Every tier gives +30 hydration and stacks to 10. It does nothing for ore, barrels or loot.
Wood Tea Rust at a glance: Pure Wood Tea gives +200% wood for 30 minutes, Basic +50% and Advanced +100% for 30 minutes, it works on trees with any axe or chainsaw, it is brewed at a Mixing Table or Cooking Workbench from 2 Red and 2 Blue Berries, and every tier gives +30 hydration and stacks to 10

What Is Wood Tea in Rust?

Wood Tea is a consumable buff, one of the teas you brew from berries at a Mixing Table. The in-game description says it “temporarily increases your yield from harvesting wood”. You drink it like any food item, a timer appears on screen, and until it runs out every tree you chop gives extra wood.

It belongs to the same family of gathering teas as Ore Tea and Scrap Tea. Ore Tea boosts nodes, Scrap Tea boosts barrels and Wood Tea boosts trees. That makes it the tea for building days, when you need thousands of wood for wood walls, high external walls, upkeep and charcoal.

Wood Tea Tiers: Basic, Advanced and Pure

Wood Tea tiers in Rust: Basic Wood Tea gives +50% for 30 minutes from 2 Red and 2 Blue Berries, Advanced Wood Tea gives +100% for 30 minutes from 4 Basic teas, and Pure Wood Tea gives +200% for 30 minutes from 4 Advanced teas
Same timer, bigger bonus at every tier.

Like Ore Tea, and unlike Scrap Tea, every Wood Tea tier lasts the same 30 minutes. Only the bonus changes as you climb:

  • Basic Wood Tea: +50% wood from trees. Every tree gives one and a half times the wood.
  • Advanced Wood Tea: +100%. Every tree gives double.
  • Pure Wood Tea: +200%. Every tree gives three times the wood, the biggest jump of any tier in the tea.

The percentage is added on top of the normal yield, so +100% means twice the wood, not 100 extra pieces. Because the timer never grows, there is no point saving a Pure for a “long” session. Drink the best tier you have whenever you are about to chop.

How to Make Wood Tea

How to make Wood Tea in Rust: mix 2 Red Berries and 2 Blue Berries for a Basic tea, mix 4 Basic Wood Teas for an Advanced tea, and mix 4 Advanced Wood Teas for a Pure tea; Basic costs 2 and 2 berries, Advanced 8 and 8 and Pure 32 and 32
Five seconds per mix.

Wood Tea is never crafted from the normal crafting menu. You make it in a Mixing Table or a Cooking Workbench:

  1. Place a Mixing Table in your base. It costs 200 Metal Fragments and 100 Stones at a Workbench Level 1, so it is one of the first deployables worth getting each wipe.
  2. Add 2 Red Berries and 2 Blue Berries. The order is Red, Blue, Red, Blue. Hit mix and after five seconds you get one Basic Wood Tea.
  3. Mix 4 Basic Wood Teas to get one Advanced Wood Tea.
  4. Mix 4 Advanced Wood Teas to get one Pure Wood Tea.

Tip: You can also get Basic Wood Tea without brewing. It drops from food caches, and the Lumberjack at Bandit Camp gives one as part of a mission reward. Save the odd one you find and mix it up with your own.

Getting Red and Blue Berries

Wood Tea berries in Rust: Red Berries and Blue Berries are each half of every recipe, pick wild bushes for seeds, plant red and blue seeds in a Large Planter at base, and use fertilizer for faster harvests, shown beside a real in-game berry planter
A small berry farm keeps the tea flowing all wipe.

The table is easy. The berries are the real cost. You can pick Red and Blue Berry bushes in the wild, and picking them also gives you seeds. Plant those seeds in Large Planter Boxes at base, keep them watered and lit, and you have a supply that grows back after every harvest. Fertilizer from a Composter speeds things up.

Blue Berries are also half of Ore Tea, so one planter of Blue feeds both of your farming teas. Red Berries go into Healing, Max Health and Anti-Rad Tea too, so they never go to waste. If you already grow hemp for cloth, add a planter of each colour and you will have a Pure Wood Tea every few harvests.

What Does Wood Tea Boost?

What Wood Tea boosts in Rust: wood chopped from trees with any axe or a chainsaw is boosted; ore nodes need Ore Tea, barrels need Scrap Tea, crates and loot get no bonus, and Ore Tea and Wood Tea can run together, shown next to real in-game trees
Trees only. Everything else is normal.

Wood Tea boosts the wood you harvest from trees, whichever tool you use. A rock, a hatchet, a Salvaged Axe or a chainsaw all get the same percentage, because the tea changes how much wood each tree gives, not how fast you chop. It does not boost:

  • Stone, metal or sulfur from nodes. That is what Ore Tea is for.
  • Scrap from barrels. Use Scrap Tea.
  • Wood or anything else you find in crates, boxes and barrels.
  • Cloth, berries or anything else you gather by hand.
Do not waste it: the timer starts the moment you drink. Walk to the tree line first, then drink. Thirty minutes goes fast if you spend ten of them running out of base.

The Best Wood Tea Setup

Best Wood Tea setup in Rust: the Stone Hatchet is slow, the Hatchet is cheap and solid, the Salvaged Axe gives big swings, the Chainsaw is the fastest way to fell trees and runs on Low Grade Fuel, and Pure Wood Tea triples the wood
The tea sets the yield, the tool sets the speed.

The tea decides how much wood each tree gives. Your tool decides how many trees you get through in 30 minutes. Put the two together and wood stops being a problem:

  1. Bring the best axe you have. A Stone Hatchet works on day one, a Hatchet or Salvaged Axe is much quicker, and a Chainsaw is the fastest of all.
  2. Fuel the chainsaw. It runs on Low Grade Fuel, so bring a stack for a full tea timer.
  3. Pick a dense forest close to base so you are not walking with the timer running.
  4. Hit the X marker. Every tree shows a mark you can hit for bonus damage, which makes it fall faster.
  5. Drink Ore Tea too if you plan to hit nodes on the way back. Different gathering teas run side by side.

Is Wood Tea Worth It?

Is Wood Tea worth it in Rust: 10,000 wood becomes 15,000 with Basic, 20,000 with Advanced and 30,000 with Pure; the extra wood per Basic tea used is 5,000, 2,500 and 1,250, so Pure is best when you are short on time and Basic is best when you are short on berries
Pure wins on time, Basic wins on berries.

Yes. Even a Basic tea pays for its four berries many times over on a single chopping trip. The question is which tier. Say you would normally chop 10,000 wood in 30 minutes:

Tea10,000 wood becomesExtra woodBasic teas usedExtra wood per Basic tea
Basic Wood Tea15,0005,00015,000
Advanced Wood Tea20,00010,00042,500
Pure Wood Tea30,00020,000161,250

That gives two clear answers:

  • Short on time, plenty of berries: drink Pure. Three times the wood in the same 30 minutes is the fastest way to fund a big build.
  • Short on berries: drink Basic. Four Basic teas drunk one after another give 2 hours of +50%, which is more extra wood than one Advanced tea made from the same four.

These numbers are our own maths from the official bonuses and assume you are chopping for the whole timer.

Gathering teas of different types run side by side, so you can have a Wood Tea and an Ore Tea active at once on a mixed farm run. Drinking a second Wood Tea does not stack two wood buffs; it replaces the one you have. The livestock update also lets you add milk or cream to Pure teas, which trades bonus for time or time for bonus; see our milk and cream guide for how that works. Every tea and recipe is listed in our Mixing Table guide.

Wood Tea Tips

Wood Tea tips in Rust: drink it on build days because walls eat wood fast, remember only one wood buff runs at a time, brew in batches of 10 per slot, enjoy +30 hydration per cup, check food caches for Basic tea and use the wood to feed your furnaces, shown beside a real in-game Mixing Table
Small habits that make every cup pay off.
  • Save it for build days. Upgrading a base, placing walls or building a compound is when a Pure tea saves the most time.
  • Feed your furnaces. Wood burns into charcoal for gunpowder, so a tea run before a big smelt pays off twice. A Large Furnace eats wood fast.
  • Brew in batches. Teas stack to 10, so one slot can hold a full stack of Pure for a group.
  • Use it as water. Each cup gives +30 hydration, so you can skip the water bottle on a run.
  • Keep your upkeep in mind. Wood is the cheapest upkeep, so a tea run every few days keeps a wooden base stocked. Our decay guide explains how upkeep works.
  • Drink it before wipe ends. Teas and berries wipe with everything else, so check when the next force wipe is and use them up.
