The Bear Pie is the farming pie in Rust. You cook it at a Cooking Workbench from cooked bear meat, wheat, eggs and mushrooms, and for 15 minutes it makes your harvesting teas about 1.5 times stronger. The catch is that your tea also runs out twice as fast while the pie is active, so it is a tool for a short, hard farming run, not a way to save teas.
This guide covers the Rust Bear Pie recipe, what the buff really does to Ore Tea, Wood Tea, Scrap Tea and Harvesting Tea, how long your tea lasts with it, whether the Rich Bear Pie is worth the cream, where to get every ingredient, and the best way to use it.
What Is the Bear Pie in Rust?
The Bear Pie (shortname pie.bear) is one of the pies you cook at the Cooking Workbench. Every pie in Rust gives some food, water and health plus a timed buff, and the Bear Pie’s buff is aimed at farmers: it boosts the yield from harvesting teas, the teas that give you more ore, wood, scrap or crops.
It does nothing on its own. If you eat a Bear Pie without a tea running, you just get a snack. The value comes from stacking it on top of a strong tea from the Mixing Table, like Ore Tea, Wood Tea or Scrap Tea. For the full list of pies and what each one does, see our Rust food and hunger guide.

How to Make a Bear Pie in Rust
The Bear Pie recipe is 3 Wheat, 2 Eggs, 2 Mushrooms and 3 Cooked Bear Meat. You need a Cooking Workbench, which costs 200 metal fragments, 200 stones and 100 wood and needs a Workbench Level 2 to craft.
- Cook the bear meat first. Raw bear meat will not work. Cook it on a campfire, BBQ or furnace and pull it out before it burns.
- Open the Cooking Workbench and put the wheat, eggs, mushrooms and cooked bear meat into the ingredient slots. Some players report the slot order matters, so match the recipe the bench shows you.
- Start the mix. After 30 seconds you get one Bear Pie.
- For a Rich Bear Pie, add 4 cream to the same recipe.
Note that the Bear Pie uses 2 eggs, one less than most pies, which take 3 wheat and 3 eggs.
Bear Pie vs Rich Bear Pie
The Rich Bear Pie arrived with the October 2026 livestock update, along with a Rich version of every other pie. It uses the normal recipe plus 4 cream, which you make by putting milk from your cows into a powered fridge (see our milk and cream guide).
The difference is the potency: x1.75 instead of x1.5, plus a little more food (100 calories, 19 water, 3 health). The drain speed and 15 minute duration stay the same. On small teas like Ore Tea the extra 0.25 adds only a few percent, but on Pure Scrap Tea it pushes your bonus from +525% to about +612%, so save your cream for scrap runs.
What the Bear Pie Does to Your Teas
The pie multiplies the bonus from your harvesting tea. Here is what that looks like with the best tea of each type (approximate, based on the x1.5 and x1.75 potency values):
| Tea | Tea only | With Bear Pie | With Rich Bear Pie | Normal duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pure Ore Tea | +50% ore | +75% | +87.5% | 30 min |
| Pure Wood Tea | +200% wood | +300% | +350% | 30 min |
| Pure Scrap Tea | +350% scrap | +525% | +612.5% | 60 min |
| Pure Harvesting Tea | +65% crops | +97.5% | +113.75% | 20 min |
The lower tiers scale the same way. A Basic Ore Tea’s +20% becomes about +30%, and a Basic Scrap Tea’s +100% becomes about +150%. The bigger the tea, the more the pie adds, so it is wasted on basic teas.
How Long Your Tea Lasts With a Bear Pie
This is the part most guides skip. While the Bear Pie is active, your tea’s timer runs twice as fast. The pie lasts 15 minutes, so in that window it eats up 30 minutes of tea:
- Ore Tea and Wood Tea (30 min): used up in about 15 minutes, right as the pie ends.
- Pure Scrap Tea (60 min): 30 minutes burn during the pie, then the last 30 minutes run at normal speed and normal strength, about 45 minutes in total.
- Harvesting Tea (20 min): gone after about 10 minutes, before the pie even ends.
Because the tea is 1.5x stronger but lasts half as long during the pie, you get more per minute but a little less in total from that tea. That is the honest trade. The Bear Pie is for when your time is the limit, like a quick mining trip before a raid or a short session, not for squeezing more out of a tea you have all day to use.
Where to Get Bear Pie Ingredients
- Bear meat: kill a bear or polar bear and harvest it with a hatchet or knife. A bear gives around 19 raw bear meat, enough for about six pies, plus cloth, leather, bone and animal fat. Cook it fast, because spoiled meat is useless. Cooked bear meat is also good food on its own at 100 calories.
- Wheat: pick it from wild plants or grow it in planters. A fertilized planter keeps you stocked for every pie and bread.
- Eggs: from a chicken coop. Check our livestock guide for how to keep chickens laying.
- Mushrooms: pick them in forests and near rivers. Grab every one you see while you farm.
- Cream (Rich pie only): milk your cows and put the milk in a powered fridge to separate it into cream.
Is the Bear Pie Worth It?
For most solo players and small groups, a Bear Pie is worth it only when you are already running a Pure tea. Pure Scrap Tea is the best match: a Bear Pie turns a 15 minute barrel run from +350% scrap into +525%, which is a big jump for 3 bear meat. Pure Ore Tea with a jackhammer is the classic mining combo, and Pure Wood Tea with a chainsaw is the same idea for wood.
Skip it with Basic teas, when you are not going to farm hard for the next 15 minutes, or early in the wipe before you have a Cooking Workbench. In those cases a cheaper food like bread or plain cooked meat does the job.
Rust Bear Pie Tips
- Pair it with a Pure tea. The pie multiplies the tea’s bonus, so the bigger the tea, the bigger the gain.
- Farm as fast as you can while it runs. A jackhammer, chainsaw or salvaged tools make the most of the 15 minutes.
- Eat the pie and drink the tea together, right at the start of your run, so neither timer is wasted.
- Cook three at a time. Pies stack to 3, so one batch covers three runs.
- Save cream for scrap runs. The Rich Bear Pie’s extra potency matters most on Pure Scrap Tea.
- Don’t stack it on a long tea you want to keep. It shortens the tea, so only eat it when you plan to farm right now.
- Hunt bears from range. Bears hit hard up close, so use a bow or a gun, not a spear.
- Mind the wipe. Pies, farms and animals are gone after a map wipe, so check when the next force wipe is before you build a big farm late in the month.
Rust Bear Pie FAQ
What does Bear Pie do in Rust?
A Bear Pie makes your harvesting teas, like Ore Tea, Wood Tea, Scrap Tea and Harvesting Tea, about 1.5 times stronger for 15 minutes, but the tea also runs out twice as fast while the pie is active. It also gives 80 calories, 15 water and 2 health.
How do you make a Bear Pie in Rust?
