Chair Rust: Cost, Blueprint, Comfort, HP & Every Chair Skin (2026)

Rust base building guide, 2026

The chair is a small piece of furniture that does a real job. Sit in it and you get full comfort, which makes your health come back faster and helps you warm up. It costs a bit of wood and metal fragments at a Workbench 1, and it comes in more skins than almost any other deployable in the game.

This Rust chair guide covers what a chair costs, how to get the blueprint, how comfort works, how much health it has, how to destroy one, every chair skin, and how it compares to the other seats in Rust.

TL;DR The Chair costs 50 wood and 75 metal fragments at a Workbench 1 and takes 30 seconds to craft there. It is not a default blueprint: research one for 20 scrap or unlock its Workbench 1 tech tree node. Sitting in it gives 100% comfort for one player. It has about 100 HP and one molotov burns it. Skins include the Ice Throne, the Salvaged Ejector Seat from the Pilot Pack, two bar stools and two beanbag seats, all on the same recipe.

Chair Cost in Rust

You craft the chair while standing near a Workbench 1 or higher. A higher workbench makes it craft faster.

Rust chair craft cost: 50 wood plus 75 metal fragments at a Workbench 1, 30 second craft or 15 seconds at Workbench 2 and 7 at Workbench 3, stacks to 5, recycles into 30 wood and 45 metal fragments, repairs for 25 wood and 38 metal fragments

Wood comes from any tree and metal fragments come from smelting metal ore in a furnace, so a chair is easy to afford once your first furnace is running.

How to Get the Chair Blueprint

Unlike the sofa, the chair is not a default blueprint. You have two ways to learn it.

How to get the chair blueprint in Rust: research a chair at a research table for 20 scrap, or unlock the 20 scrap chair node on the Workbench 1 tech tree, which costs about 3 Blueprint Fragments from an empty tree, then craft it at a Workbench 1
Research one or unlock it on the tech tree.
  • Research it: put a chair you found or looted into a research table with 15 scrap. Chairs are common in abandoned bases and decaying player builds.
  • Tech tree: the chair is a node on the Workbench 1 tech tree. From an empty tree, the nodes you need to reach it add up to about 3 Blueprint Fragments.

Chair Comfort: What It Does

Comfort shows up as a status on the right of your screen. The more comfort you have, the faster your health regenerates, and it also helps you warm up when you are cold. A chair gives the full 100% comfort while you are sitting in it.

Rust chair comfort: the chair gives 100 percent comfort while seated with one seat, a sofa gives comfort while seated with two seats, and comfort does not stack so only your best source counts
Sit down to heal faster.
  • One seat: a chair holds one player. If you want a teammate to heal next to you, a sofa seats two.
  • No stacking: comfort only uses your best source, so sitting in a chair on top of a bear skin rug or next to a campfire does not add them together.
  • Regen needs the basics: health only comes back when you are fed, watered, warm, not bleeding and have not been hit for a few seconds.
Tip: Comfort is slow. If you need health right now, use a bandage, a honey bandage or a syringe first, then sit down to finish the heal.

Where to Place a Chair

A chair goes on a flat surface such as your floors and foundations. Inside someone’s building range you need to be authorised on the tool cupboard to place it. Good spots are next to your TC, your furnaces and the sleeping bag or bed you respawn on.

The chair is decoration. It does not count as a wall, it will not stop bullets, and it does not add to your upkeep.

How to Destroy a Chair

How to destroy a chair in Rust: 1 molotov, about 7 seconds with a hatchet, about 5 seconds with a salvaged hammer, 3 fire arrows, 2 F1 grenades or 1 satchel charge
About 100 HP, and chairs burn.
ToolAmountNote
Molotov Cocktail1Cheapest, no sulfur
Fire arrows3From a hunting bow, crossbow or compound bow
Hatchet1About 7 seconds of hits
Salvaged Hammer1About 5 seconds of hits
F1 Grenade2120 sulfur
Beancan Grenade2240 sulfur
Satchel Charge1480 sulfur, overkill

Facepunch does not list a health number for the chair. These amounts match other 100 HP deployables like the rug and are half of what a sofa takes, so treat the 100 HP as a close estimate.

Rust Chair Skins

Rust chair skins: the default chair, the Ice Throne from the Ice King Pack, the Salvaged Ejector Seat from the Pilot Pack DLC unlocked with the Pilot G-Suit, the Wooden and Metal Bar Stools and the Fabric and Leather Beanbag seats
Same chair, new look.

The chair has its own family of skins that turn it into a completely different model. They all keep the chair recipe of 50 wood and 75 metal fragments at a Workbench 1, give the same comfort and have one seat.

  • Ice Throne: a frozen throne from the Ice King Pack on the Rust Item Store. Once bought, it is tied to your Steam account.
  • Salvaged Ejector Seat: a jet seat from the Pilot Pack DLC (August 2025). The game unlocks it when you own the Pilot G-Suit hazmat from that pack.
  • Wooden Bar Stool and Metal Bar Stool: tall stools that need you to own the skin item on Steam before they show up in your crafting menu.
  • Fabric Beanbag Seat and Leather Beanbag Seat: beanbag versions of the chair, also crafted on the chair recipe.

The plain chair also takes normal store skins that only change its paint, such as the glow-in-the-dark Cuck Chair from Valentine's Day 2026. For how skins work in general, including how to apply and sell them, see the Rust skins guide.

Every Chair in Rust Compared

Every chair in Rust compared: the chair costs 50 wood and 75 metal fragments at Workbench 1 and is researched, the Secretlab chair has the same cost and is a promo item, the beach chair has the same cost and needs the Sunburn DLC, the rocking chair costs 130 wood at Workbench 1 from the item store, and the sofa costs 100 wood and 30 cloth with no workbench and seats two
Cost and how you unlock each seat.

Besides the chair and its skins, Rust has a few separate seat items. They are their own items with their own blueprints, not chair skins.

If you own none of the DLC or store items, the plain chair and the sofa are your two choices. The sofa is free to learn and seats two, so it is the better early pick. The chair is smaller, stacks to 5 and fits in tight rooms.

Rust Chair Tips

Rust chair tips: put a chair by the tool cupboard, put one near your sleeping bag, keep fire away, eat and drink first, recycle spare chairs for wood and metal fragments, and use the chair skins you own
Cheap item, real perks.
  1. Chair by the TC. You spend a lot of time sorting loot and paying upkeep, so sit and heal while you do it.
  2. Chair at the bag. Put one next to the bag or bed you respawn on in your base, so you heal faster after a death.
  3. Keep fire away. One molotov burns a chair, so do not put it right behind a window a raider can throw through.
  4. Eat and drink first. Comfort only speeds up regen when you are fed and watered.
  5. Recycle spares. A chair you do not need recycles into 30 wood and 45 metal fragments.
  6. Use your skins. Every chair skin costs the same, so if you own the Ice Throne or the ejector seat, use it.

For comfort while you stand instead of sit, a 100 wood Rust table works with no workbench and no seat needed.
