Rust Darkness Falls Update: Halloween 2026 Patch, New Items, Drops & Dates

Darkness Falls is the name Facepunch gave to the Rust Halloween 2026 update. It went live on PC with a mandatory client and server patch on Thursday, October 22, 2026 at 17:00 UTC, and it runs until the November 5 force wipe. It switched on the yearly Halloween event (the Candy Hunt, scarecrows and mummies, rift portals and Frankenstein pets), added new store items like the inflatable Alien Costume and the Spooky Decor Bundle, kicked off the Base Invaders Twitch drops and brought a Discord Zombie Wumpus plush.

What Is the Darkness Falls Update in Rust?

“Darkness Falls” is the theme Facepunch used for its Halloween 2026 devblog, with the tagline “Darkness falls upon the island as monsters re-awaken from their slumber. The rifts open in random locations, leading to who-knows-where.” It is not one of the big first Thursday monthly updates. It is a separate, smaller mandatory client and server patch that landed two weeks before the November update, the same way Halloween does every year.

That matters for your server. Because it is a mandatory patch, every vanilla server had to update on October 22, but it did not force a map wipe or a blueprint wipe. The event simply switched on for every server that updated, whatever its own wipe schedule. The next forced wipe is the November update on Thursday, November 5, 2026, which is also the day the event switches off. What the Darkness Falls Event Adds

Most of what you will notice in game is the returning Halloween event. Everything below was live on every vanilla server until November 5.

• Candy Hunt. About once every two in-game days, glowing candy spawns around every player for 3 minutes. The top 3 collectors win loot bags, and everyone keeps their candy. 10 candy makes a Small Loot Bag, 10 small make a Medium and 10 medium make a Large, which can roll an M249, LR-300, M39, MP5, Multiple Grenade Launcher or a rocket bundle. • Scarecrows and mummies. Undead NPCs with chainsaws, sickles and pitchforks roam the whole map. They have 200 HP and drop food, components, event weapons, costume pieces and the body parts you need for a pet.
• Frankenstein pets. Collect a head, torso and legs, put them in a Frankenstein Table (a default blueprint during the event) and wake your monster. Press P to tell it to follow, guard or attack. • Rifts. Glowing portal doors open at random spots, about 16 on a 4,500 size map. Step through and you land in a small dungeon with scarecrows and normal and military crates, then leave through the portal you came in by. What Is New in Darkness Falls 2026?

The event itself works almost exactly like 2025. What is actually new this year is a set of store items, a Discord collab and a round of fixes to the parts that broke in past years.

Rustafied’s coverage of the patch also lists the gameplay fixes that shipped with it:

• Rifts: the portal exit now has a clearer interaction prompt, and Facepunch fixed dungeon spawning, navigation and how dungeons show on the map.
• Candy Hunt: fixed candy failing to spawn, including a bug where invisible or disconnected players could stop candy from appearing.
• Frankenstein pets: fixed pet movement and the code lock position on the Frankenstein Table, and you can no longer use a Frankenstein Table while building blocked.
• Decorating: placement and collision for the new decor were polished, so string lights and wall items snap more easily.

Darkness Falls Twitch Drops: Round 54 Base Invaders

The drops that run alongside Darkness Falls are Round 54, Base Invaders, hosted by Rustoria. They started with the Twitch Rivals Base Invaders broadcast on October 23, 2026 at 18:00 UTC (11 AM PT) and the general drops run until November 1, 2026 at 23:59 UTC.

That is 15 hours of watch time for all five general drops. Only one channel counts at a time, so watching two streams does not double your progress. Link your Steam and Twitch accounts on Facepunch’s drops page first, claim each drop in your Twitch inventory, and the skin lands in your Steam inventory within about 10 minutes. Halloween Store Items and the Discord Plush

The Rust Item Store switched to its Halloween rotation with the patch: 36 limited items, from the new Alien Costume to returning favourites like the Hockey Mask (a Metal Facemask skin), the Baseball Bat (a mace skin), the Cultist Deer Torch, Mummy Wraps underwear, the Dracula Mask and the Dracula Cape, plus 15 community skins such as the Bone Crusher SKS, Trapped Soul Garage Door and Evil Pumpkin Auto Turret. On Discord, eligible Nitro subscribers can claim the Zombie Wumpus Plush with Discord Orbs in the Rust Game Shop on Discord from October 22 to November 5. It is a deployable you can rotate and stack anywhere in your base, and it gives 70% comfort when you stand near it, the same as a chair or rug.

Is Darkness Falls on Rust Console?

Rust Console Edition is updated by Double Eleven on its own schedule, and its Halloween event went live a week earlier, on October 15, 2026, with Candy Hunts, loot bags, scarecrows and pets on official PS5 and Xbox Series servers. Darkness Falls 2021 vs 2026

Darkness Falls is not a brand new name. Facepunch first used it for the Halloween 2021 event trailer, the year Frankenstein pets arrived, and brought it back as the theme for 2026. Each Halloween since has added one big piece.

What Comes After Darkness Falls?

The next monthly update is due on November 5, 2026, the same day Darkness Falls ends. Facepunch has not named it yet, but Rustafied’s October 22 roundup of the development branches shows what the team is working on. None of this is live, and Facepunch says the numbers are still being balanced, so treat it as a preview, not patch notes.

• Blueprint progression overhaul. The biggest change in testing. Unlocking a node on the tech tree would cost a Blueprint Fragment, Page or Book (by workbench tier) instead of scrap. Fragments come from barrels and boxes, Pages and Books from better loot, and 10 Fragments combine into a Page (Pages do not combine into Books). The Salvage workbench upgrade gets a 20% chance to keep the blueprint item.
• Research and workbench costs. The Research Table keeps using scrap, but test costs go up: common 15 to 20, uncommon 30 to 40, rare 60 to 100 and very rare 120 to 300 scrap (default blueprints stay at 10). Workbenches would cost scrap again: 50 for Level 1, 500 for Level 2 and 1,250 for Level 3.
• New weapons. The Uzi is furthest along, with different handling with its stock extended or folded. The M1 Garand, FN FAL, P90, G3A3, Warhammer, Katar and Flail are in early modelling, and the Nailgun has a new model with skin support.
• Smaller changes in testing. Handmade SMG damage 20 to 21, sprinting uses 25% more calories and water, wild modular cars spawn with half their engine slots filled, mature hemp visible from about 250 m with a colour option, a search bar on the Mixing Table, apples and coconuts on trees, more livestock work, a lighthouse you repair for Deep Sea access, a tattoo system and network optimisations.
