Rust Fluorescent Light: DLC, Craft Cost, Power Use & Wiring (2026)

Rust electricity guide, 2026

The Fluorescent Light is the long white strip light you see bolted to walls in a lot of cleaner Rust bases. It came with a paid DLC, it costs almost nothing to craft, and at 1 power it is the cheapest light in the game to keep running.

This fluorescent light Rust guide covers how you get it, the exact recipe, how much power it needs and how long a battery keeps it lit, how to wire a whole row of them, what it takes to shoot one out, recycle values, and how it compares with the Ceiling Fluorescent Light and the other lights in Rust.

TL;DR The Fluorescent Light is a wall-mounted electric light from the Exhibit Decor Pack DLC ($12.99, added September 4, 2025). If your Steam account owns the pack, you craft it from 50 metal fragments at a Workbench 1. It draws 1 rW and has a Passthrough output, has 200 HP, stacks to 10 and recycles into 25 metal fragments. The Ceiling Fluorescent Light is a different item: a skin for the normal Ceiling Light that uses 2 rW.

What Is the Fluorescent Light in Rust?

Its in-game description is short: “Bright enough to see what you’re doing.” It is a long, boxy fluorescent tube fitting that you mount on a wall, the kind of light you would find in a garage or an office corridor. In the game files the item is electric.fluorescentlight with item ID 1892536031, and the placed version is the electric.fluorescentlight.deployed prefab (see our Rust item IDs and Rust prefabs lists).

It runs on electricity only. There is no fuel slot like a Lantern, and nothing to aim like a Search Light. You wire power in, and it lights the wall and room around it with a flat, white light.

How to Get a Fluorescent Light

How to get a Fluorescent Light in Rust: own the Exhibit Decor Pack DLC for 12.99 dollars, then craft it from 50 metal fragments at a Workbench 1. No research needed, stacks to 10
Own the Exhibit Decor Pack, then craft it for 50 metal fragments.

The Fluorescent Light is a DLC item. It came in the Exhibit Decor Pack, released with the September 4, 2025 update for $12.99 on Steam and in the in-game item store (console players get the same pack). The pack adds 15 decor items, including the Fluorescent Strip Lights in a wall and a ceiling version, two Moveable Spotlights, the Chandelier, a Wall Cabinet, string and fairy lights, beanbag chairs and a Clothing Mannequin.

Once your Steam account owns the pack, the light is unlocked for you on every server. There is no blueprint to research and no tech tree node. You just need a Workbench 1 and the frags.

How Much Power Does a Fluorescent Light Use?

Rust Fluorescent Light power use: 1 rW per light, the Ceiling Fluorescent Light uses 2 rW, a small battery keeps one light on for about 6.7 hours and a 40 rW small generator runs 40 lights
1 rW per light, the lowest draw of any light in Rust.

A Fluorescent Light draws 1 rW. That is half a Ceiling Light (2 rW) and a tenth of a Search Light (10 rW). Because a battery drains by the power it sends out, a cheap light means a battery lasts far longer. Here is our math for one Small Battery (400 rWm when full):

Lights on one Small BatteryPower drawnTime until empty
1 Fluorescent Light1 rW400 min (about 6 h 40 min)
2 Fluorescent Lights2 rW200 min (about 3 h 20 min)
5 Fluorescent Lights5 rW80 min
1 Ceiling Light (or Ceiling Fluorescent)2 rW200 min
1 Search Light10 rW40 min

A full Rust night lasts well under an hour of real time on most servers, so even one small battery charged by a solar panel covers a few strip lights all night. A Small Generator puts out 40 rW, enough for 40 of them, but it burns low grade fuel. Our Rust electricity guide covers every power source.

How to Place and Wire a Fluorescent Light

How to place and wire a Fluorescent Light in Rust: place it on a wall, run a wire from a power source into Power In, add a switch, timer or HBHF sensor, and chain more lights from the Passthrough output
Wall, power, switch, then chain the next light from Passthrough.
  1. Place it on a wall. Hold the light and aim at a wall inside your building privilege. It snaps flat against the surface.
  2. Wire Power In. With the Wire Tool, run a wire from a battery, solar panel, branch or splitter into the light’s Power In.
  3. Add control. Put a switch, timer or HBHF sensor between the power and the light so it is not burning power all day.
  4. Chain more lights. Run a wire from Passthrough into the next light’s Power In. Each light keeps 1 rW, so the first light in a chain of five needs 5 rW coming in.

Like other deployables, you can pick it back up with a hammer while you have building privilege, and repair damage for up to 25 metal fragments.

Fluorescent Light vs Ceiling Fluorescent Light

These two get mixed up a lot because they look almost the same. They are different items:

  • Fluorescent Light (electric.fluorescentlight, ID 1892536031): its own item, mounts on walls, draws 1 rW.
  • Ceiling Fluorescent Light (electric.fluorescentlight.ceiling, ID 640470230): a skin of the Ceiling Light. It hangs from ceilings and keeps the Ceiling Light’s stats, so it draws 2 rW. Same recipe, 50 metal fragments at a Workbench 1.

Both come from the same Exhibit Decor Pack. If you want a whole base in matching strip lights, use the wall version along corridors and the ceiling skin in rooms.

How to Destroy a Fluorescent Light (and Recycle It)

How to destroy a Fluorescent Light in Rust: 200 HP, about 6 seconds with an M249, 13 seconds with a Spas-12, 14 with an M4 shotgun, 18 with a pump shotgun, 29 with a Python, 1 rocket, or cut the power for free
200 HP: bullets break it, explosives are wasted on it.

A Fluorescent Light has 200 HP. Never spend sulfur on one. Shotguns are best: a Pump Shotgun with buckshot breaks it in about 18 seconds of firing, an M4 in about 14 and a Spas-12 in about 13. An M249 takes about 6 seconds, a Python about 29 and a Bolt Action about 1 minute 10. A single rocket also does it if you are already aiming one at the wall behind it. During a raid, cutting the wire upstream turns off every light in the chain for free. Our raid calculator has costs for the walls and doors around it.

RecyclerYield
Safe zone recycler (40%)20 metal fragments
Monument recycler (50%)25 metal fragments
Powered monument recycler (60%)30 metal fragments
Red recycler (75%)37 metal fragments, chance of 1 more

It gives no scrap, so recycling one only makes sense when you are cleaning out a loot room.

Fluorescent Light vs Other Rust Lights

Function-wise, the free Industrial Wall Light does the same job for the same 1 rW. You buy the Fluorescent Light for the look: a cleaner, brighter white strip instead of a caged bulb. If you are not paying for DLC, the Industrial Wall Light is the one to use.

Fluorescent Light Tips

Rust Fluorescent Light tips: line corridors with wall strips, use an HBHF sensor or timer, store power in a battery for the night, other Exhibit Decor Pack items like the wall cabinet, and do not place too many lights
Cheap power, smart switching, and not too many of them.
  • Line corridors and loot rooms. Wall strips light long, narrow spaces better than one ceiling light in the middle.
  • Switch them. An HBHF sensor turns them on only when someone walks in, and a timer shuts them off at dawn.
  • Keep them inside. A lit light on an outside wall shows enemies where you are at night and is easy to shoot out.
  • Plan the chain. Each light in a passthrough chain takes 1 rW, so add a branch if you run a long row from one battery.
  • Do not overdo it. Dozens of lights cost frames for everyone looking at your base. A few well-placed strips do the job.

If you are planning a base to light up, start with our Rust base designs, and check when the next force wipe is before you sink frags into decor.

Fluorescent Light FAQ

How do you get the fluorescent light in Rust?

Buy the Exhibit Decor Pack DLC ($12.99). Once your Steam account owns it, you can craft the Fluorescent Light from 50 metal fragments at a Workbench 1 on any server. There is no blueprint to research.

How much power does a fluorescent light use in Rust?

1 rW. It has a Power In socket and a Passthrough output, so the rest of the power carries on to the next light or device.

Is the fluorescent light DLC in Rust?

Yes. It is part of the Exhibit Decor Pack, added on September 4, 2025. You need the pack to craft it, but anyone can place and use one they loot in game.

How long does a small battery run a fluorescent light?

About 400 minutes, or 6 hours 40 minutes, for one light from a full Small Battery (400 rWm at 1 rW). Two lights halve that to about 3 hours 20 minutes.

What is the difference between the Fluorescent Light and the Ceiling Fluorescent Light?

The Fluorescent Light is its own wall-mounted item that uses 1 rW. The Ceiling Fluorescent Light is a skin of the Ceiling Light, hangs from ceilings and uses 2 rW. Both come from the Exhibit Decor Pack.

How much HP does a fluorescent light have in Rust?

200 HP. A shotgun breaks it in under 20 seconds, so it is never worth explosives. It repairs for up to 25 metal fragments with a hammer.

What does a fluorescent light recycle into?

25 metal fragments at a monument recycler, 30 at a powered one, 37 at a red recycler and 20 at a safe zone recycler. It gives no scrap.

Can you put a fluorescent light on the ceiling?

The Fluorescent Light itself mounts on walls. For ceilings, craft a Ceiling Light with the Ceiling Fluorescent Light skin from the same pack.

What is the fluorescent light item ID in Rust?

The short name is electric.fluorescentlight and the item ID is 1892536031. Admins can spawn one with inventory.give electric.fluorescentlight 1.
