Rust Codes: The 20 Most Common Code Lock Codes (and Which to Avoid) 2026

Rust base security guide, 2026

Every code lock in Rust asks for the same thing: four digits. That gives you 10,000 possible codes, yet a huge share of players reach for the same few. Raiders know this, which is why the first thing anyone tries on a locked door is 1234.

This Rust codes guide lists the most common code lock codes, ranked by real data, shows the patterns raiders guess first, and explains how the 8-try lockout works in 2026. There is also a free random code generator with a one-click copy button, and a checker that tells you if your current code is on the danger list.

TL;DR The most common 4-digit codes are 1234, 1111, 0000, 1212 and 7777. In a study of 3.4 million real PINs, 1234 alone was 10.7% and the top 20 codes covered 26.8% of people. In Rust, a wrong code shocks you, and after 8 failed tries the keypad locks you out for 15 minutes. That makes a random code almost impossible to guess, but a common one is a real risk. Pick 4 random digits, avoid repeats, runs, years, meme codes like 6969 and 4200, and keypad lines like 2580.
Rust code lock codes at a glance: a code lock costs 100 metal fragments, has 10,000 possible codes from 0000 to 9999, 1234 is the most common code at about 1 in 9 real PINs, 8 wrong tries trigger a 15 minute lockout, and raiders use C4 because the lock has no HP

The 20 Most Common Rust Code Lock Codes

These are the 20 most used 4-digit codes, ranked by how often people pick them. The percentage is the share of 3.4 million real 4-digit PINs that used each code. Rust players choose codes the same way people choose phone and bank PINs, so this is the list raiders work through first. If your door code is in this table, change it.

The 20 most common Rust code lock codes ranked: 1234 at 10.7 percent, 1111 at 6.0 percent, 0000 at 1.9 percent, then 1212, 7777, 1004, 2000, 4444, 2222, 6969, 9999, 3333, 5555, 6666, 1122, 1313, 8888, 4321, 2001 and 1010, together 26.8 percent of real PINs

Put together, those 20 codes covered 26.8% of everyone in the data. If codes were picked at random, 20 codes would cover just 0.2%. That gap is the whole reason code guessing still exists in Rust.

Where the numbers come from The ranking is from Nick Berry’s DataGenetics study of 3.4 million 4-digit PINs leaked from real password lists. The big Rust code lists, including the “top 10,000 Rust codes” lists, use this same data. Nobody outside Facepunch can see what codes players set on real servers, so treat the exact order as a strong guide, not an in-game survey.

More Codes Raiders Try: The Patterns

Past the top 20, raiders do not need a list. They guess by pattern, because almost every “memorable” code falls into one of six groups. If your code fits any of these, it is far easier to guess than a random one.

Six patterns raiders guess first on a Rust code lock: repeats like 1111 and 0000, runs like 1234 and 4321, pairs like 1212 and 1122, years like 2000 and 1999, meme codes like 6969, 4200, 1337 and 0420, and keypad shapes like 2580, 1470, 3690 and 1379
Six groups of codes to stay away from.
PatternExample codesHow many codes

Runs0123, 1234, 2345, 6789, 4321, 987614
Pairs1212, 1313, 1010, 1122, 2211About 180
Years1950 to 2026, especially 1990 to 2010About 77

Keypad shapes2580, 0852, 1470, 3690, 1379, 1397A few dozen

Years are the sneaky one. In leaked PIN lists, many of the top 50 codes start with 19 or 20, because people use a birth year. In Rust, the current year and the year the game left early access are just as risky. Meme codes are the other trap that is worse in Rust than in real life: 6969, 4200 and 1337 are the first things a bored player tries on a stranger’s door.

Why Keypad Shapes Are Easy to Guess

The Rust code lock uses a phone-style keypad: 1, 2, 3 on top, 0 alone at the bottom. Codes that draw a line or a shape on that pad feel random but are not. 2580 runs straight down the middle column and shows up near the top of almost every code list. 1470 and 3690 run down the sides, and 1379 hits the four corners.

Rust code lock keypad shapes: 2580 goes straight down the middle column, 1470 goes down the left side and 1379 hits the four corners, and anyone near your door can watch which keys you press
Lines and corners on the keypad are some of the first guesses.

Shapes have a second problem. A player watching from a window or doorway can see which part of the pad your hand moves to, and a straight line is easy to read. Close the door behind you before you type a code into an inner lock.

Can You Guess a Code Lock? Code Raiding in 2026

You can try, but Rust makes it costly. Every wrong code gives you an electric shock, and the damage climbs with each wrong try in a row. After 8 failed attempts, the keypad locks you out for 15 minutes. Wait it out and you get another 8 tries.

Rust code lock guessing odds from real PIN data: trying the top 20 codes over 3 lockouts works on 26.8 percent of people, trying the top 8 codes in one lockout works on 22.3 percent, against a truly random code 8 guesses work 0.08 percent of the time; each wrong code shocks you and 8 fails give a 15 minute lockout
Eight guesses are worth a lot against common codes, and almost nothing against random ones.

Here is what that means in numbers. Against a random code, 8 guesses give 8 chances in 10,000, which is 0.08%. Against real-world codes, the top 8 from the table above covered 22.3% of people. So a raider who walks a street of bases trying 1234, 1111, 0000, 1212, 7777, 1004, 2000 and 4444 can expect to open roughly one door in five that uses a “normal” human code. That is why code guessing, sometimes called code raiding, never fully died.

An unlocked lock is worse than a bad code While a code lock shows a green light, it is unlocked, and any player can remove it or set their own code. Set your code the moment you place the lock, or someone can lock you out of your own base.

The Lock Is Only as Strong as the Door

A good code stops guessers, but it does nothing against explosives. The code lock has no health of its own, so raiders destroy the door it is on. What they pay depends on the door, not the code.

Rust raid cost for the door under a code lock: wooden door 200 HP and 1 C4, sheet metal door 250 HP and 1 C4, garage door 600 HP and 2 C4, armored door 1,000 HP and 3 C4
Same code lock, very different raid cost.

So the best setup is a random code on the best door you can afford. Check every wall and door in the Rust raid calculator, or see the full charts for C4 and satchel charges.

How to Set or Change a Code Lock Code

  1. Place the lock. Look at a door, box, hatch or tool cupboard with the code lock in your hand and place it. It costs 100 metal fragments and needs no workbench.
  2. Set the code. Look at the lock, hold E and choose to change the code, then type 4 digits. The light turns red and the lock is armed.
  3. Add a guest code if you need one. Unlock it first, hold E and set a separate 4-digit guest code, then lock it again. Guests can open the door but cannot change the code or remove the lock.
  4. Change it when a teammate leaves. Setting a new main code removes everyone else who was authorised, so only people you give the new code to get back in.

Anyone who enters the right code once is remembered, so your team does not have to type it every time. Since the September 2026 Breach and Clear update, code lock authorisations also count toward group upkeep once you pass four players, so clear out old teammates. The full rundown is in our code lock guide.

Tips for Picking a Safe Code

Six rules for a safe Rust code lock code: go random, use a guest code for friends, give the tool cupboard its own code, use one code per door, change the code when a teammate leaves, and never type a code where others can see
Six habits that keep your code out of a raider’s guess list.
  • Go random. Use the generator above. No repeats, runs, pairs, years or meme codes.
  • Give friends a guest code. Keep the main code for your actual team.
  • Lock the tool cupboard with its own code. If one door code leaks, raiders still cannot take your building privilege.
  • Use different codes on key doors. A leaked front door code then opens one room, not the whole base.
  • Change codes after a team split. Ex-teammates remember the old one.
  • Type with the door shut. Shapes on the keypad are easy to read from a window.
  • Pick a new code every wipe. Everything resets on the monthly force wipe, so there is no reason to reuse a code someone may have seen.

Rust Codes FAQ

What is the most common code lock code in Rust?

1234 is the most common 4-digit code. In a study of 3.4 million real PINs it made up 10.7% of them, followed by 1111 at 6.0% and 0000 at 1.9%. Raiders try these first.

What are the top 10 Rust door codes?

The top 10 are 1234, 1111, 0000, 1212, 7777, 1004, 2000, 4444, 2222 and 6969. Together with the next 10 they cover about 26.8% of people, so never use any of them.

How many codes are there on a Rust code lock?

There are 10,000 possible codes, from 0000 to 9999, because the lock takes exactly 4 digits.

How many wrong codes can you enter on a Rust code lock?

After 8 failed attempts the keypad locks you out for 15 minutes. Every wrong code also shocks you, and the damage goes up with each wrong try.

Is code raiding still possible in Rust?

Yes, but only against bad codes. With 8 tries per 15 minutes, a random code gives a guesser a 0.08% chance, while the top 8 common codes covered about 22% of people in real PIN data.

What is a good code for a Rust code lock?

Any 4 random digits with no repeats, runs, pairs, years, meme numbers or keypad lines. Use the generator on this page to make one and copy it with one click.

Why is 2580 a common Rust code?

2580 runs straight down the middle column of the keypad, so it feels random but is one of the first shapes people pick. 1470, 3690 and 1379 are other keypad shapes raiders try.

Does changing the code remove other players?

Yes. Setting a new main code removes everyone else who was authorised on that lock, so only people you give the new code to can get back in.

Can you raid a code lock without guessing the code?

Yes. The lock has no health, so raiders destroy the door it is on. A wooden or sheet metal door takes 1 C4, a garage door 2 C4 and an armored door 3 C4.
