Dome Rust: How to Climb It, Loot & Puzzle Guide

Monument guide, updated 2026

The Dome is the single best early-wipe loot run in Rust. It is that giant rusted sphere on its steel scaffolding that you can see from half the map, and sitting on top of it are four guaranteed military crates, the most non-locked military crates of any monument in the game. There is no keycard needed to reach them, there are no scientists shooting at you, and the radiation is almost nothing. The only thing standing between you and that loot is the climb, and learning to pump the Dome, the community name for the sprint-jump route up the sphere, is the one skill that turns the Dome from a place you stare at into a place you farm.

Because it asks for movement instead of gear, the Dome in Rust is where a lot of players get their first real kit. You can run it naked on wipe day, climb up, grab four military crates plus everything on the way, and walk out with guns and components before anyone with a keycard has even reached a red-card monument. It is the great equaliser, and it rewards you for practising one thing: the jump.

This Dome Rust guide covers all of it. How to climb to the top step by step, the two routes up the sphere and the exact jump technique, the full loot table, the green keycard puzzle and recycler added in the Meta Shift update, the new crude oil pumps from Power Trip, the free oil refineries, the radiation, and what to bring. Every number here is checked against RustHelp’s monument data, Corrosion Hour, EIP Gaming and Facepunch’s own patch notes, not guessed.

TL;DR The Dome is a Tier 2 monument with four military crates on top, the most guaranteed non-locked military crates in Rust, plus normal crates on the way up. You reach them by climbing (pumping) the sphere: sprint-jump up over the blue barrels, across a thin pipe and up the zig-zag ramps, or take the faster, riskier pipe route. No keycard is needed to climb. Radiation is tiny (median 0), there are no scientists, and it is not a safe zone. Since the Meta Shift update the Dome also has a green keycard puzzle that opens a room with a recycler, a blue keycard and a blueprint fragment, needing 1 Green Keycard and 1 Electric Fuse. Power Trip added crude oil pumps you fill a tanker from. Bring light rad protection, come light, and leave heavy. Everything here resets on the monthly force wipe.

What Is the Dome in Rust?

The Dome is a medium (Tier 2) monument built around a huge spherical storage tank held up by a lattice of steel beams and ramps. Players also call it the Sphere Tank, but on almost every server it is just “the Dome”. It shows up on most procedurally generated maps, usually near a road, and its whole identity is that pile of loot balanced on top of a structure you have to climb.

What makes the Dome monument special is the risk-to-reward ratio for a new player. Most high-crate monuments in Rust punish you with scientists, radiation, or a keycard puzzle you cannot do until mid-wipe. The Dome asks for none of that. It has the highest amount of guaranteed non-locked military crates in the game, no NPCs to fight, and radiation so low you barely need protection. The catch, and there is always a catch in Rust, is the climb. The loot is only easy to reach if you know the route.

The Dome has also quietly grown. The Meta Shift update in October 2025 added a green keycard puzzle and a recycler, and the Power Trip update in August 2026 added crude oil pumps. So the modern Dome is more than a crate-run: it is a recycler, a source of a blue keycard, and a crude oil tap, all in one low-risk spot.

Rust Dome monument stats card: it is a Tier 2 medium monument, not a safe zone, radiation median 0 and max 11, no scientists, 4 military crates on top, 2 free oil refineries, 1 green recycler in the puzzle room, a green keycard plus electric fuse puzzle, 2 diesel and crude oil barrels, a 53,092 square metre no-build radius and a Chinook drop zone
Every Dome number that matters, verified against RustHelp’s monument data.

Dome Rust Stats

Here are the full, verified stats for the Dome monument. The headline is how gentle it is: no scientists, almost no radiation, and no safe-zone rules to slow you down.

Compare that to a red-card monument like the Oil Rig or Launch Site, which come with heavy scientists and real danger, and the Dome’s appeal is obvious. It gives you military-crate loot for the price of a climb rather than a firefight.

Dome Pumping: How to Get to the Top of the Dome

This is the part everyone actually searches for. “Dome pumping” is the community name for the sprint-jumping climb up the sphere, and once it clicks you can be on top in well under a minute. There are two routes, and which one you use depends on how brave you are feeling.

How to climb the Dome in Rust, called dome pumping: a diagram of the spherical Dome monument with two colour-coded routes to the top. The safe blue route goes up over the blue barrels, across a thin pipe, inside for three crates, then up zig-zag ramps to the four military crates at the summit. The faster red route turns at the pipe and jumps between the two large side pipes straight to the crates, where one missed jump is fatal
The two routes up the Dome. Blue is the safe climb, red is the fast pipe skip.

The safe route. This is the one to learn first, because it collects loot the whole way up and has no lethal jump.

  1. Start at the blue barrels. Find the stack of blue barrels against the base of the Dome and jump up onto them. They are your first step up onto the structure.
  2. Cross the thin pipe. From the barrels, walk or jump across the thin metal pipe that leads onto the sphere’s beams. Take it slow here, it is narrow.
  3. Duck inside for three crates. The path leads to a higher interior level with three more crates. Grab them, they are free loot on the way.
  4. Take the zig-zag ramps to the top. From there the beams form back-and-forth ramps. Sprint-jump up each one and you arrive at the summit with the four military crates.

The fast route. At the point where the safe route crosses that thin pipe, turn around instead. A second pipe leads up a different way. Follow the two large pipes that run down the side of the Dome and jump between them, and you connect back near the top and land right at the military crates. It is quicker, but one of the jumps will kill you if you miss it, so only run it once you are confident.

The Dome pumping jump technique in Rust: hold Shift to sprint then tap Space at the edge for a run-up jump, tap Ctrl to crouch-jump for extra height on steep sections, line up jumps before committing instead of holding forward off narrow pipes, and learn the community callouts like the Old Jump Spot, Little Pipe Jumps, the Ladder and Ramp Up
The pumping technique: sprint-jump for distance, crouch-jump for height, line up before you commit.

The movement itself is simple once you know it. The best way to clear each gap is a small run-up jump: hold Shift to sprint and then tap Space right at the edge. On the steeper beams, add a crouch-jump by tapping Ctrl at the top of your jump. Crouching in the air tucks your legs up and gains you a little extra height, which is exactly what the tallest sections need.

How to practise it Line the jump up before you commit, do not just hold forward off a narrow pipe or you will over-run the edge and fall. The community has names for the spots, the Old Jump Spot, Little Pipe Jumps, the Ladder and Ramp Up, so if you watch a single climbing clip the callouts will make sense fast. A minute of practice on a low-pop server saves you a dozen deaths on wipe day.
The lazy shortcut If you have a Minicopter, you can skip the climb entirely and land straight on top of the Dome next to the military crates. That makes repeat loot runs extremely fast, which is why the Dome is a favourite farm for anyone with air.

Dome Rust Loot

The reason to climb is the loot, and the Dome’s loot is unusually good for how safe it is. The four military crates on top are the star, but you pick up plenty on the way.

Rust Dome loot table: 4 military crates on top of the Dome which is the most guaranteed non-locked military crates in the game, 9 normal crates on the ramps and entrance, 2 puzzle-locked crates behind the green card door, 1 blue keycard, 1 basic blueprint fragment, 2 diesel fuel and crude oil barrels beneath the Dome
What the Dome hands you. Four military crates up top, plus a blue keycard and a blueprint fragment from the puzzle.
  • 4 Military Crates. On top of the Dome. This is the whole point, and it is the most guaranteed, non-locked military crates of any monument in the game. They hold weapons, components, ammo and the odd blueprint.
  • ~9 Normal Crates. Scattered on the ramps and at the entrance level. Free loot on the way up.
  • 2 Puzzle Crates. Locked behind the green card door, opened with the puzzle below.
  • 1 Blue Keycard. In the puzzle room. This is a real bonus, since it feeds the blue-card monuments you run later.
  • 1 Basic Blueprint Fragment. A puzzle reward, worth a step toward a Workbench 2.
  • 2 Diesel Fuel + crude oil barrels. Diesel runs quarries and the Giant Excavator; the crude barrels beneath the Dome refine into low grade fuel on site.
Reality check The Dome is not a safe zone, and because the loot is so good it is a magnet for other players and roof-campers. Someone can be waiting at the top, or shoot you off the beams mid-climb. Bring a gun, watch for other pumpers, and do not go up empty-handed if the server is busy.

The Green Card Puzzle & Recycler

Before October 2025 the Dome had no puzzle at all. The Meta Shift update changed that, adding a basic green keycard puzzle to the Dome (along with Ferry Terminal and Radtown), and putting a recycler in the room it opens.

The green keycard puzzle room at the Dome in Rust, an actual in-game screenshot showing the green recycler and telephone inside a metal shed, added in the Meta Shift update of October 2025 and opened with a green keycard and an electric fuse
The Meta Shift puzzle room: a green recycler and a telephone, opened with a green keycard and a fuse.

To run the puzzle you need 1 Green Keycard and 1 Electric Fuse. Insert the fuse into the box to power the door, swipe the green card, and the room opens up. Inside you get the 2 puzzle crates, the recycler, a Blue Keycard and a Basic Blueprint Fragment. The puzzle resets roughly every 30 minutes, so on a quiet server you can loop it.

Why the recycler matters A recycler on a low-radiation, no-scientist monument is genuinely useful. You can farm the crates, recycle the components you do not want into scrap right there, and carry home only what is worth carrying. Before Meta Shift you had to haul everything to Outpost; now the Dome pays out in scrap on site.

Crude Oil Pumps at the Dome

The other modern addition is crude oil. The Power Trip update on 6 August 2026 turned the Dome into a crude oil tap as part of the new power grid.

The crude oil pumps added to the Dome in Rust by the Power Trip update, an actual in-game overhead screenshot showing three connected pump jacks on the monument floor that flow crude oil for 20 minutes once activated from an Oil Rig switch
Power Trip put crude oil pumps at the Dome. Activate them from an Oil Rig switch and they flow for 20 minutes.

Here is how it works. Flipping the activation switch (found at the Large or Small Oil Rig) starts the Dome pumps, and once activated they pump crude for 20 minutes. The Large Oil Rig switch runs them at full rate; the Small Oil Rig switch runs them at half rate, and flipping both together gives you roughly 1.5x the output. It ties the two monuments together: you turn the tap on at a rig, then collect at the Dome.

Collecting crude oil at the Dome in Rust, an actual in-game screenshot showing a modular car fitted with a tanker module filling from a Dome crude oil pump through a green hose, which is then drained at a car lift
Collect the crude by filling a Tanker vehicle module, then drain it at a car lift.

To actually take the crude you park a modular car fitted with a Tanker module at the pump, hook up the hose to fill it, then drive it to a car lift and drain it. From there the crude refines into low grade fuel like any other crude. It is an endgame, grid-powered farm rather than a wipe-day one, but it is a lot of fuel for a monument you can already climb in your sleep.

Refineries, Diesel & Crude Oil

Even ignoring the new pumps, the Dome has always been an oil monument. It has two free Small Oil Refineries, each inside its own metal shed, so you can refine crude into low grade fuel on the spot without building your own. There are crude oil barrels lying around beneath the Dome and 2 Diesel Fuel collectable up top.

ResourceAt the DomeWhat it is for
Oil refineries2 (free)Refine crude into low grade fuel on site
Crude oil barrelsSeveral, beneath the DomeRefine into low grade fuel
Crude oil pumpsSince Power TripFill a tanker module (endgame)
Diesel Fuel2Runs quarries and the Giant Excavator

That combination, easy loot plus free refineries plus fuel, is why a lot of players treat the Dome as a one-stop wipe-day monument. You climb for the crates, refine any crude you find while you are there, and grab the diesel for your Excavator run later.

Radiation & What to Bring to the Dome

The Dome is one of the most beginner-friendly monuments in Rust, and its kit requirements reflect that. You do not need a full Hazmat Suit.

What to bring to the Dome in Rust: only light radiation protection like a road sign kit because radiation is mild, a green keycard and an electric fuse if you want the puzzle room recycler and blue keycard, an optional minicopter to land on top and skip the climb, and inventory space for the guns, components and scrap you loot
The Dome asks for almost nothing: light rad gear, maybe a card and fuse, and space for loot.
  • Light radiation protection. Radiation at the Dome is mild, median 0 and max 11, so a road-sign armour kit or basic gear is plenty. A Hazmat Suit is overkill here.
  • A Green Keycard and Electric Fuse (optional). Only if you want the puzzle room, the recycler and the blue keycard. You can climb and loot the top without them.
  • A weapon. It is not a safe zone. Bring something to defend the climb and the loot, because other players run the Dome too.
  • Inventory space. You leave heavy, with guns, components and scrap. Come light so you have room.
Does the Dome have it checklist for Rust: yes to 4 military crates on top, 2 free oil refineries, 1 recycler in the puzzle room, a green card puzzle added October 2025, crude oil pumps added August 2026, and 2 diesel fuel; no scientists, not a safe zone, no research table or workbench, and no high radiation with a median of 0

Dome Rust Pro Tips

  1. Learn the safe route first. It collects loot the whole way and has no lethal jump. Only switch to the fast pipe route once the climb is muscle memory.
  2. Practise the crouch-jump. Tapping crouch at the top of a jump is what clears the tall beams. Drill it on a quiet server before wipe day.
  3. Watch for campers. The best loot on an easy monument means people wait for you. Peek the top before you fully commit to the last jump.
  4. Recycle on site. Since Meta Shift there is a recycler in the puzzle room. Turn junk components into scrap there instead of hauling them home.
  5. Grab the blue keycard. If you run the green puzzle, the blue keycard it gives is a free step toward the blue-card monuments later.
  6. Use a minicopter for repeats. Landing on top skips the whole climb and turns the Dome into a fast, repeatable farm.
  7. It all wipes anyway. The Dome, its crates and any keycards you hoard reset on the monthly force wipe, so run it early and often rather than saving it.

Dome Rust FAQ

How do you get to the top of the Dome in Rust?

You climb, or “pump”, the sphere. The safe route is to jump up onto the blue barrels at the base, cross the thin pipe onto the beams, duck inside for three crates, then sprint-jump up the zig-zag ramps to the four military crates on top. Use a sprint-jump (hold Shift, tap Space at the edge) for distance and a crouch-jump (tap Ctrl at the top of a jump) for height on the steeper sections. There is also a faster pipe route that skips straight to the crates, but one missed jump on it is fatal. If you have a minicopter you can land straight on top and skip the climb.

What is dome pumping in Rust?

“Dome pumping” is the community name for the sprint-jumping climb up the Dome monument to reach the loot on top. Pumping just means chaining the run-up jumps up the barrels, pipes and ramps of the sphere. It is a movement skill, not an item or a glitch, and once you learn the route you can be on top in under a minute. No keycard is needed to pump the Dome.

What loot does the Dome have in Rust?

Four military crates on top, the most guaranteed non-locked military crates of any monument in the game, plus around nine normal crates on the ramps and at the entrance. Since the Meta Shift update the green card puzzle room adds two more crates, a recycler, a blue keycard and a basic blueprint fragment. There are also crude oil barrels and two diesel fuel to collect. Military crates hold weapons, components, ammo and the occasional blueprint.

Does the Dome have a recycler in Rust?

Yes, since the Meta Shift update in October 2025. The Dome now has one green recycler inside the green keycard puzzle room. To reach it you need a green keycard and an electric fuse to open the door. Before that update the Dome had no recycler at all, which is why some older guides say it does not have one.

Do you need a keycard to loot the Dome?

No, not for the main loot. You do not need any keycard to climb the Dome and take the four military crates on top or the normal crates on the way up. A keycard is only needed for the optional puzzle room: that requires a green keycard and an electric fuse, and it rewards you with two more crates, a recycler and a blue keycard. The climb itself is completely free.

Is the Dome radiated in Rust? Do you need a hazmat suit?

The Dome has very low radiation, a median of 0 and a max of around 11, so it is one of the most beginner-friendly monuments in the game. You do not need a full Hazmat Suit. A road-sign armour kit or basic protective gear is more than enough to loot it comfortably. That low radiation, combined with no scientists, is exactly why the Dome is such a popular early-wipe run.

Does the Dome have scientists in Rust?

No. The Dome has no scientists or NPC guards at all. The only danger is other players, since it is not a safe zone and its easy, high-value loot draws people in. That makes it far less punishing than scientist-guarded monuments like Launch Site, the Oil Rigs or Military Tunnels, but you should still bring a weapon in case another player is running it at the same time.

What is the green card puzzle at the Dome?

Added in the Meta Shift update (October 2025), it is a basic green keycard puzzle that opens a side room at the Dome. You insert one electric fuse to power the door, swipe a green keycard, and the room opens. Inside are two puzzle crates, a recycler, a blue keycard and a basic blueprint fragment. The puzzle resets roughly every 30 minutes, so on a quiet server you can run it more than once.

Does the Dome have an oil refinery in Rust?

Yes, the Dome has two free Small Oil Refineries, each inside its own metal shed. You can refine crude oil into low grade fuel there without building your own refinery, which is handy because there are crude oil barrels lying around beneath the Dome. Since the Power Trip update the Dome also has crude oil pumps you can fill a tanker module from.

What are the crude oil pumps at the Dome?

They were added in the Power Trip update on 6 August 2026. Flipping a switch at the Large or Small Oil Rig activates the Dome’s pumps, which then pump crude oil for 20 minutes. The Large Oil Rig switch runs them at full rate and the Small Oil Rig switch at half rate, and using both gives about 1.5x the output. You collect the crude by parking a car with a tanker module at the pump, filling it through the hose, then draining it at a car lift.

Is the Dome a safe zone in Rust?

No. The Dome is not a safe zone, so other players can attack you there and you can attack them. Its easy, high-value loot makes it a frequent PvP and roof-camping spot, especially early in a wipe. Bring a weapon, watch the top before your final jump, and be ready for a fight if the server is busy.

Can you use a minicopter at the Dome?

Yes, and it is the fastest way to farm it. You can fly a minicopter straight to the top of the Dome and land next to the military crates, skipping the entire climb. That turns the Dome into a quick, repeatable loot run, which is why players with air treat it as a go-to farm. Just remember the Dome is not a safe zone, so your parked minicopter can be stolen or destroyed while you loot.

Do the Dome crates reset in Rust?

Yes. Like every monument, the Dome’s crates respawn on a timer after the monument resets, so you can return and loot it again later in the same wipe. The green card puzzle room resets roughly every 30 minutes. And on the monthly force wipe the whole map regenerates, so the Dome and all its loot start completely fresh.
