Rust monument puzzles are the locked loot rooms you open with a keycard and an Electric Fuse. There are three cards: green, blue and red. Green card monuments pay you a blue card, blue card monuments pay you a red card, and red card monuments hold the elite crates. This page lists every puzzle in one place, with the exact solution for each monument, what it costs and what is behind the door.
If you only need one card, we also have deep guides for the green keycard, the blue keycard and the red keycard. Puzzle rooms reset every 30 minutes or so, and the whole map resets on the monthly force wipe, so check the Rust force wipe countdown before you plan a long card run.

How Rust Monument Puzzles Work
Every puzzle follows the same pattern. You power the monument, then you open a card door before the power runs out. Most puzzles boil down to four moves:
- Place an Electric Fuse in the monument’s fuse box. The fuse burns down while it powers the door, and it is gone when it runs out.
- Flip the switch or switches. Some monuments have one, Power Plant has three. A timer starts.
- Swipe your keycard at the matching reader. Green readers take green cards, blue take blue, red take red.
- Loot the room fast. The next tier card sits on a desk inside, next to the crates and blueprint fragments.
The cards form a ladder. A green card room holds a blue card. A blue card room holds a red card. Red card rooms hold elite crates and Blueprint Books. You cannot skip a rung unless you pay 100 scrap for a blue card at Outpost.
Since the Meta Shift update in October 2025, puzzle rooms also matter for your tech tree. Since November 2026 they pay Blueprint Pages (1 at green rooms, 3 at Power Plant, Train Yard and Water Treatment) for the tech tree of the Workbench Level 2. The same update added green puzzles to the Dome, Ferry Terminal and Radtown, and moved the Missile Silo up from blue to red, per Facepunch’s Meta Shift notes.

Green Card Monuments: Puzzle Solutions
These are the green card monuments in Rust, the cheapest puzzles in the game. Each one costs a green card and one fuse, and each one hands you a blue keycard back. That is why players also call them the blue card monuments: they are where blue cards come from.
Sewer Branch
The best value green puzzle. No scientists, median radiation 3, and the biggest green room in the game.
- Put the fuse in the box inside the red warehouse and flip the switch beside it.
- Head down into the sewer tunnels and follow them under the monument.
- Swipe your green card at the green door and take the blue card, a Blueprint Page and about 9 crates.
Satellite Dish
Short and open, so watch for snipers on the ridges. Radiation tops out at 11.
- Put the fuse in the box in the shack without a card reader.
- Flip the switch outside the shack.
- Swipe green at the second shack. Inside: blue card, Blueprint Page, 2 crates.
Harbor (Large and Small)
No radiation and no scientists. On the Small Harbor the puzzle building sits mid dock across from the big red hangar. On the Large Harbor it is a building on the edge of the port.
- Go into the dock puzzle building and slot the fuse into the box.
- Flip the switch next to it.
- Swipe green at the green door. The blue card is on the desk with 1 or 2 crates.
Radtown
One of the three green puzzles added in October 2025. The pay is good, but Radtown is genuinely radioactive, so wear a Hazmat Suit or a solid rad set.
- Find the garage building and the fuse box on its left side. Insert the fuse and hit the switch.
- Climb the stairs into the upper room. The green door is on your right.
- Swipe and take the 2 crates, the blue card and the Blueprint Page off the table.
The Dome
The Dome had no puzzle for years. Now it has a green room with its own recycler, so you can scrap your loot on the spot. Radiation is tiny and there are no scientists.
- Put the fuse into the box at the base of the Dome to power the green door.
- Swipe your green card.
- Loot the 2 crates, the blue card and the Blueprint Page, and use the recycler while you are there.
Ferry Terminal
A quiet coastal port with no radiation and no scientists. There is often a free green card on a desk across from the recycler, so you may not even need to bring one.
- Put the fuse in the box in the left side shack.
- Flip the switch behind it.
- Swipe green at the shack on the far side. Inside: blue card, Blueprint Page, 2 crates.
Blue Card Monuments: Puzzle Solutions
The blue card monuments in Rust are where red cards come from. Each one pays a red keycard, and most also pay Blueprint Pages, which makes them the fastest route through the Workbench 2 tech tree.
Water Treatment Plant
The easiest red card in Rust. No scientists, no green door and zero median radiation. Bring 1 blue card and 1 fuse.
- At the central warehouse, hold E on the hand wheel to raise the blast doors and loot the free room (4 crates and a fragment, no card).
- Go upstairs to the room with the repair bench and put the fuse in the box.
- Run along the balcony to the recycler building, up to the second floor, and swipe the blue door.
- Take the red card, 2 Blueprint Pages and 6 crates, then flip the switch by the desk to get out.
Train Yard
Fat loot, but four scientists guard the switches and the loot rooms are radioactive. Bring 1 blue card, 1 fuse and a Hazmat Suit.
- Flip the switch on the generator in the building with the recycler. The timer starts.
- Climb the switch tower and hit the second switch at the top.
- Put the fuse in the box in the main building near the centre of the yard.
- Swipe blue and grab the red card off the desk, plus the crates.
Power Plant
No scientists, but the longest blue puzzle: 3 switches, a timer, a green door and a blue door. Bring a green card, a blue card and 1 Electric Fuse. The Power Trip update made the Power Plant the map’s power grid too, but that runs on Heavy Fuses, not the puzzle fuse.
- In the three storey building opposite the broken cooling tower, climb to the balcony and flip the generator switch under the second staircase.
- Cross to the slanted roof shed on the north west side and hit switch 2. This starts the green door timer.
- Swipe green at the door on the first floor of the main building.
- Go around the machinery and flip the last switch, then put the fuse in the box on the third floor storage area, right hand corner.
- Swipe blue at the door by the stairwell. Take the red card and 3 Blueprint Pages.
Airfield
A double puzzle, so it needs 2 fuses, plus a green and a blue card. About 3 to 5 scientists and radiation around 11.
- Put fuse one in the box on the first floor of the office building and flip the switch.
- Drop into the manhole tunnel between the hangars and swipe green at the green door.
- Run to the far side of the Armory and put fuse two in the box.
- Swipe blue round the corner. Inside: red card, 2 Blueprint Pages, diesel and crates.
Arctic Research Base
The cheapest blue puzzle: one blue card and no fuse at all. It only spawns on maps with snow, and about 10 arctic scientists guard it.
- Swipe blue at one garage and take the red card and crates from the back.
- Swipe blue at the other garage to get the only snowmobile spawn in the game.
Blue readers also appear at monuments that do not pay a red card: the Military Tunnels Laboratory door, the blue rooms on both Oil Rigs and some Underwater Lab rooms. Open them for the loot, but do not expect a red card behind them.
Red Card Monuments: Puzzle Solutions
The red card monuments in Rust are the endgame. They spend red cards instead of paying them, and they hold the elite crates and Blueprint Books. Since the Breach and Clear update in September 2026, these monuments also have monument blockers: barricades on the route that take about 1 C4 or 5 satchels and do not respawn that wipe.
Military Tunnels
All three cards and 1 fuse, plus about 30 scientists. Readers stay powered for roughly two minutes after the switch, so move.
- Insert the fuse and flip the timer switch next to it.
- Swipe green at the Storage door across the train tracks.
- Swipe blue at the Laboratory door further in.
- Swipe red at the last door and loot the elite crates.
Launch Site
The longest puzzle in the game. Bring a green card, a red card and 2 fuses, and watch for the Bradley APC in the courtyard.
- Flip the timed switch by the rocket scaffolding, run the parkour across the gantry and press the button at the far end.
- At the small building by the three fuel silos, open the green door, insert fuse one and flip the switch.
- Go through the door near the two blue shipping containers, insert fuse two and hit that switch.
- Swipe red at the main warehouse. Inside: 3 elite crates and 2 Blueprint Books.
Missile Silo
A red card monument since October 2025. One red card, no fuse, but radiation runs a median of 26 and peaks at 81, so bring a Hazmat Suit and Anti-Radiation Pills.
- Swipe red in the tower building and press the button.
- Drop through the blast hatch while it is open, about 20 seconds.
- Clear six levels for 4 elite crates and 2 Blueprint Books. Leave through the Level 1 blast doors with the red button.
Oil Rigs
Neither rig needs a fuse, because both are already powered. Bring all three cards. On the Large Oil Rig the green room is on Level 3, blue on Level 4 and red on Level 6, and a blocker sits on the red route. The hackable locked crate needs no card at all. Full routes are in our Large Oil Rig guide and Oil Rig guide.
Underwater Labs
Labs are procedural, so every one is different. Card rooms run green, blue and red, some doors also need a fuse, and only green cards spawn inside. See the Underwater Labs guide.
The Fastest Route From Green to Red
You can go from a fresh spawn to a red card for 15 scrap and two fuses:
- Buy a green card at Bandit Camp for 15 scrap, or grab a free one from a gas station or supermarket office.
- Run Sewer Branch or the Dome for a blue card and a Blueprint Page.
- Take the blue card to Water Treatment Plant for a red card and 2 more fragments.
- Spend the red card at the Missile Silo or Launch Site, or hold it for the Oil Rig.
In a hurry? Pay 100 scrap for a blue card at Outpost and skip the green step. You lose the green room’s crates and fragment, but you save the walk.
Where to Get Each Keycard
| Card | Buy | Free sources | Swipes | Despawn on ground |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Green | 15 scrap, Bandit Camp | Gas station and supermarket offices, Junkyard, Ferry Terminal desk, scientists, Underwater Labs | 4 | About 20 minutes |
| Blue | 100 scrap, Outpost | Any green puzzle room, scientists, gutting some fish | 4 | About 40 minutes |
| Red | Not sold | Blue puzzle rooms only | 2 | About 1 hour |
None of the cards can be crafted, researched or repaired. The Electric Fuse cannot be crafted either. It is loot only, from crates and scientists, so stock up on fuses before a long card run.
What to Bring on a Puzzle Run
- The right cards. Check the table. Power Plant and Airfield want a green card as well as the blue one.
- One fuse per puzzle, plus a spare. Airfield and Launch Site need two.
- Rad protection for Radtown, Train Yard, Power Plant, Launch Site and the Missile Silo.
- A real gun for Train Yard, Airfield, Arctic Research Base, Military Tunnels, Launch Site, the Silo and the rigs.
- Meds, and an empty slot or two for the loot.
Common Puzzle Mistakes
- Slow looting. The fuse burns down and doors close again. Open the room first, then loot the rest of the monument.
- Old guides. If a guide says the Missile Silo is a blue card monument, or lists no puzzle at the Dome, Radtown or Ferry Terminal, it is older than October 2025.
- Selling cards back. Bandit Camp buys blue cards for 40 scrap, but Outpost sells them for 100. Keep spares.
- Hoarding green cards. Green is 15 scrap. Burn all four swipes.
Pro Tips
- Chain them. Sewer Branch, Dome or Ferry Terminal into Water Treatment is the cleanest green to red loop on most maps.
- Watch the reset. Puzzle rooms reset about every 30 minutes. A puzzle you can reach safely is income all wipe.
- Go on wipe day. Puzzle rooms are emptiest in the first hours of a wipe. Our Rust monuments guide ranks every monument by loot and danger.
- Bring explosives for red runs. Since September 2026, red card monuments have blockers that need about 1 C4.
