Ninja Suit Rust: Stats, How to Get It & Crafting Recipe (2026)

Rust clothing and skins guide, 2026

Every few wipes you meet someone dressed head to toe in black cloth, and the same question comes up in chat: where do you get that? That is the Ninja Suit, one of the rarest outfits in Rust. It is not loot, it is not on the tech tree and you cannot buy it in the store. It came from a single Twitch drop in 2021.

This ninja suit Rust guide covers what the suit is, its real protection stats, how people got it and whether you still can, the crafting recipe, how it compares to Surgeon Scrubs and the Hazmat Suit, what it recycles into, and whether it is any good in a fight.

TL;DR The Ninja Suit is a black, full body cloth suit. It was the BaboAbe reward in Twitch Drops Round 8 (May 6 to 13, 2021): watch the stream for 2 hours and it was yours. It cannot be obtained now, and it is not tradable or marketable. Owners can craft it any time from 60 cloth and 2 sewing kits with no workbench. It blocks 25% projectile, 30% melee, 8% bite, 15% radiation, 8% cold and 5% explosion, the same as Surgeon Scrubs. It is a cosmetic choice, not armor: a metal facemask alone blocks 50% of bullets to your head.

What Is the Ninja Suit in Rust?

The Ninja Suit is a one-piece outfit made of black cloth, with a hood and face wrap. In the game files it is attire.ninja.suit, and its item description simply reads “BaboAbe Ninja Suit”, after the streamer whose drop it was.

It is a full body suit, like the Hazmat Suit. That means it takes every clothing slot at once: you cannot wear a facemask, chest plate, kilt, gloves or boots with it. A backpack still fits, because that has its own slot (see our Large Backpack guide).

Unlike most of the skins in Rust, the Ninja Suit is its own item, not a skin you apply to another piece of clothing. If you own it on Steam, it shows up in your crafting menu as a separate recipe.

How to Get the Ninja Suit in Rust

How to get the ninja suit in Rust: it was a Twitch drop for watching BaboAbe for 2 hours from May 6 to 13, 2021, it is locked to that Steam account, it is not on the Steam Market, it can be spawned on Creative servers, and Surgeon Scrubs have the same stats
One week in 2021 was the only chance to get it.

The Ninja Suit was part of Rust Twitch Drops Round 8, which ran from May 6 to May 13, 2021. Each streamer in that round had a personal drop, and the Ninja Suit was BaboAbe’s. Watching their stream for 2 hours with a linked Twitch account unlocked it on your Steam account.

Here is where it stands now:

  • Twitch drops: it has not come back in a later round. Facepunch runs new drop rounds every few months, so check the current drops before a wipe, but do not expect this one.
  • Steam Market: drop items like this are not tradable or marketable, so you cannot buy one. Any site offering to sell you the suit is a scam.
  • In-game store and loot: it is not sold in the Rust Item Store and never drops from crates.
  • Creative and modded servers: admins can spawn it with the item shortname, so you can try it on there. It stays on that server.

If you just want the look and the stats, the closest thing you can still get is Surgeon Scrubs, the Halloween suit with identical protection. They are tradable on the Steam Market, and owning them unlocks the recipe.

Ninja Suit Crafting Recipe

Ninja suit Rust crafting recipe: 60 cloth plus 2 sewing kits makes 1 Ninja Suit in about 1 second with no workbench, compared with Surgeon Scrubs at Workbench 1 and the Hazmat Suit at Workbench 2
Cheap enough to craft a new one after every death.

If you own the suit, it is one of the cheapest full body outfits in the game:

  • 60 Cloth
  • 2 Sewing Kits
  • No workbench and no blueprint research, it crafts in about 1 second

That makes it better on day one than Surgeon Scrubs (same recipe, but Workbench 1) or the Hazmat Suit (Workbench 2 plus tarps, sewing kits and high quality metal). Because you do not need a bench, you can craft it fresh on a beach spawn as soon as you have farmed some hemp. The full list of clothing recipes is in our Rust clothing guide.

Ninja Suit vs Surgeon Scrubs vs Hazmat Suit

Ninja suit vs Surgeon Scrubs vs Hazmat Suit in Rust: Ninja Suit and Surgeon Scrubs both 25% projectile and 15% radiation, Ninja Suit no workbench, Scrubs Workbench 1, Hazmat 30% projectile and 50% radiation at Workbench 2
The suits look different, but two of them are the same item underneath.

Surgeon Scrubs25%30%15%WB1Steam Market, Halloween loot bags
Hazmat Suit30%30%50%WB2Craft, research or loot

The Ninja Suit and Surgeon Scrubs share the same recipe, the same protection and the same recycle yield. The only real differences are the look and the workbench. Unlike the Ninja Suit, Scrubs are still easy to get: buy them on the Steam Market or find them in Halloween loot bags. Our Surgeon Scrubs guide has the details. See our Dracula Cape guide for the other Halloween outfit.

The Hazmat Suit beats both of them. It blocks a little more projectile damage and over three times the radiation, so it is the only one of the three that actually gets you through radiation at monuments. Pick the Ninja Suit for style and cost, not for rad zones.

Ninja Suit Recycle Yield and Despawn

Ninja suit Rust recycle yield: 36 cloth and 2 sewing kits at a monument recycler, 24 cloth and 1 sewing kit at a safe zone, no scrap, and the suit despawns after 5 minutes on the ground
Recycling returns most of the cloth, but no scrap.

Put a Ninja Suit in a recycler and you get 36 cloth and 2 sewing kits back, or 24 cloth and 1 sewing kit at a safe zone recycler. There is no scrap in it, so recycling is only worth it to get your sewing kits back.

One thing that catches people out: a dropped Ninja Suit despawns after only 5 minutes on the ground, compared with 40 minutes for a Hazmat Suit or Surgeon Scrubs. If you die in one, it will not wait long for you.

Is the Ninja Suit Good for PvP?

Is the ninja suit good for PvP in Rust: the suit blocks 25% of bullets everywhere, while an armor set gives a metal facemask 50% to the head, a chest plate 25% plus 20% from a hoodie underneath for 45% torso, and a road sign kilt 20% on the legs
Most fights end with a headshot, and the suit only blocks 25% there.

Not really. The suit blocks 25% of bullet damage everywhere, and that includes your head. A Metal Facemask on its own blocks 50% to the head, and most Rust fights are won with headshots. Because the suit fills every slot, you also cannot layer anything with it.

Compare it to a normal kit: a metal chest plate with a hoodie underneath stacks to 45% on the torso, and a road sign kilt adds 20% on the legs. Our Rust armor guide has the full breakdown.

The honest verdict The Ninja Suit is great early game, when everyone else is in a burlap shirt, and it looks good at night. Once people have rifles and metal armor, swap it for a real kit before you take a fight.

Ninja Suit Tips

Rust ninja suit tips: roam at night because black is hard to spot, it only costs 60 cloth so it is cheap to lose, swap to armor for real PvP, and do not use it for radiation because 15% is not enough
A black suit only works when you stay in the dark.
  • Roam at night. Black cloth is hard to see in the dark, so the suit works best for night runs and sneaking past bases.
  • Stay out of the light. Lamps, flashlights and daylight give you away just like anyone else.
  • Treat it as a throwaway. It only costs 60 cloth and 2 sewing kits, so it is ideal for fresh spawns and quick farm runs.
  • Swap before a fight. Keep a facemask and chest plate kit at base and change when the server gets geared.
  • Do not use it for radiation. 15% is not enough for hot rooms, wear a Hazmat Suit instead.
  • Grab it fast. A dropped suit despawns in 5 minutes.

Everything you craft, including your suits, is wiped on force wipe. Check when the next Rust force wipe is so you know how long you have to enjoy your kit.
