Rust costs $39.99 on Steam in the US, and that is the only edition on PC: there is no Deluxe or Gold version, just the game plus optional cosmetic packs. On PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, Rust Console Edition starts at $49.99, with Deluxe and Ultimate editions above it. The good news is that Rust goes on sale a few times a year, usually at 50% off, which drops the PC price to $19.99.
This guide covers what Rust costs on every platform, how the price has changed since 2013, when the Steam sales happen, what each DLC pack and the Rust + DLC Bundle cost, and how to buy it safely. Prices were checked against the Steam store listing, price trackers and Facepunch’s own announcements in October 2026. The Rust force wipe countdown on our home page tells you when the next fresh start is, which is the best time to jump in after you buy.

How Much Is Rust?
Rust is $39.99 on Steam, which is the only store that sells the PC version. In Europe it is €39.99, and other regions get their own Steam regional price, so it can be cheaper or dearer in your local currency. You pay once: there is no subscription, no server fee and no battle pass. The only things you can spend more on are optional skins and cosmetic DLC packs, which never change how the game plays.
The price you see on the Steam page is the full game with every update. Facepunch has shipped a free content update every month since 2018, including big ones like the tech tree changes in Pivot or Die, and none of them have cost extra.
Rust Price on Every Platform
| Platform | Full price (US) | Lowest recent sale | Online fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| PC (Steam, Windows and Mac) | $39.99 | $19.99 (50% off) | None |
| PS5 Standard | $49.99 | About $31 (May 2026) | PS Plus |
| Xbox Series X|S Standard | $49.99 | $24.99 (July 16, 2026) | Game Pass Essential or higher |
| Console Deluxe | $59.99 | Varies | Same as above |
| Console Ultimate | $84.99 | Varies | Same as above |
| Rust Mobile | Not released | – | – |
PC and console are two separate games, so buying one never gets you the other. Console players also pay for PS Plus or Game Pass to go online, which makes PC the cheaper option over time. Our Rust on Xbox and PS5 guide covers the console editions, Game Pass and where to buy in full. Rust is not on Game Pass on any platform, and Rust Mobile is still in a closed beta with no price yet.
Rust Price History
Rust has gone up in price as the game grew. It has never been free on Steam, and it has never had a permanent price cut.
| Date | Price (US) | What happened |
|---|---|---|
| December 11, 2013 | $19.99 | Rust launches on Steam Early Access as a paid alpha |
| February 8, 2018 | $34.99 | Rust leaves Early Access and the price goes up for the full release |
| Today (2026) | $39.99 | Current Steam price, the same as most full-price survival games |
| May 2021 to now | $49.99 | Rust Console Edition on PS4 and Xbox One, then PS5 and Xbox Series X|S from June 2025 |
The full timeline of every Rust version is in our Rust release date guide.
When Is Rust on Sale on Steam?
Rust is one of the games Facepunch puts on sale in Steam’s big seasonal events. The discount is almost always 50%, taking it from $39.99 to $19.99, and the DLC packs are usually discounted at the same time. Here are the recent ones:
| Sale | Dates | Rust price |
|---|---|---|
| Steam Winter Sale 2025 | December 18, 2025 to January 5, 2026 | $19.99 (50% off) |
| Steam Summer Sale 2026 | June 25 to July 9, 2026 | $19.99 (50% off), DLC up to 50% off |
| Since July 10, 2026 | Back to full price | $39.99 |
| Steam Winter Sale 2026 | Expected December 17, 2026 to January 4, 2027 | Not announced yet |
Rust was not on sale when we checked on October 21, 2026. If you can wait, the Steam Winter Sale in late December is the most likely next half-price window. The easiest way not to miss it is to add Rust to your Steam wishlist: Steam emails you when a wishlisted game goes on sale. Facepunch also posts every sale on the official @playrust account.
Rust Editions: Is There a Deluxe Version?
On PC there is only one edition of Rust. Everyone gets the same game for $39.99. Steam also sells a Rust + DLC Bundle that adds the Instruments Pack, Sunburn Pack, Voice Props Pack and the Rust Soundtrack. It lists at about $74.65, roughly 10% less than buying the five items on their own ($82.95), and it has been on sale for about $37 during Steam sales. The bundle discount also counts what you already own, so you only pay for the pieces you are missing.
On console there are three editions, all with the same game inside:
| Edition | US price | Extras |
|---|---|---|
| Rust (PC, Steam) | $39.99 | None, one edition for everyone |
| Rust + DLC Bundle (PC) | About $74.65 | Instruments, Sunburn and Voice Props packs plus the Soundtrack |
| Console Standard | $49.99 | The game, Public Test Branch access, a garage door skin |
| Console Deluxe | $59.99 | Adds the Tech Noir skin set and 1,100 Rust Coins |
| Console Ultimate | $84.99 | Adds the Orion’s Fury L96 skin, Tech Noir set and 4,600 Rust Coins |
Every extra is cosmetic. Since September 3, 2026, every console edition gets the Public Test Branch, so there is no gameplay reason to pay for Deluxe or Ultimate.
Rust DLC and Pack Prices
Rust’s DLC is all optional. Packs add deployables, instruments or outfits that every owner can see in game, but they never lock maps, servers or progress. These are the main packs and their US Steam prices:
| Pack | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Instruments Pack (Dec 2019) | $9.99 | Playable instruments like the drum kit, wheelbarrow piano, xylobones, trumpet, sousaphone and cowbell |
| Sunburn Pack (2020) | $9.99 | Beach items: beach chair, parasol, towel, boogie board, sunglasses and more |
| Voice Props Pack (July 2021) | $12.99 | Megaphone, microphone stand, boomboxes and other voice and sound props |
| Arctic Pack (Feb 2022) | $12.99 | The Arctic Suit, a cold-weather hazmat suit, plus snow-themed items |
| Lumberjack Pack | $12.99 | The Lumberjack suit and woodsman-themed items |
| Pilot Pack (Aug 7, 2025) | $12.99 | A pilot hazmat suit, an ejector seat, a pilot code lock and more |
| Warhammer 40,000 Pack (Oct 23, 2025) | $12.99 | Warhammer 40,000 themed outfit and items |
| Artist Pack (2026) | $9.99 | An easel and artist canvases for painting in game |
| Rust Soundtrack | $9.99 | The game’s music |
Packs are tied to your Steam account and can’t be traded. The Arctic Suit gets the most attention because it works like a hazmat suit with strong cold protection, which some players call pay to win. Even so, the regular Hazmat Suit does the same job in most places, so no pack is needed to compete.
Does Rust Cost Anything After You Buy It?
No, not unless you want cosmetics. After the $39.99, these are the only optional costs:
- Skins: the weekly Rust Item Store sells new skins every Thursday, and the Steam Community Market sells older ones. See our Rust skins guide for how they work.
- DLC packs: the cosmetic packs above, from $9.99.
- Your own server: only if you want to run one. Our Rust server hosting guide compares the prices.
- Console only: PS Plus or Game Pass Essential for online play, and Rust Coins for the console skin store.
Thousands of official and community Rust servers are free to join, and every one of them gets a fresh map on force wipe day.
Where to Buy Rust
- Steam (best): buy it on the Rust Steam page. You get the regional price, Steam refunds and every sale automatically.
- Steam gift: on the same page, choose “Buy as a gift” to send Rust to a friend’s Steam account. It is the safest way to buy Rust for someone else.
- Steam gift cards: Steam wallet cards from big retailers work if you don’t want to put a card on your account.
- Key resellers: sites that sell Steam keys can list Rust for less than full price, but keys from grey-market sellers can be region locked or later revoked, and you lose Steam’s refund. During a Steam sale, the official price is usually just as cheap.
Steam’s normal refund rule applies to Rust: you can ask for a refund within 14 days of buying it with under 2 hours played. Two hours is enough to load into a server, gather, craft and see if you like it. Details are on Steam’s refund policy page.
Is Rust Worth $39.99?
For most survival fans, yes. Rust has more than 1.1 million Steam reviews, gets a free update every month, and has servers for every play style, from vanilla monthly wipes to 2x, 10x and PvE servers. Our Rust player count page shows how busy it still is. The catch is that Rust is hard: you’ll lose your base and gear often, especially in your first wipes, and solo play is tough.
If you are not sure, buy it in a Steam sale for $19.99, play under two hours to test it, and use the refund if it isn’t for you. If you want something similar to compare first, our games like Rust list has free and cheaper picks.
Tips to Pay Less for Rust
- Wishlist it on Steam. Steam emails you as soon as Rust goes on sale.
- Wait for the big Steam sales. Summer and Winter are the reliable half-price windows.
- Buy DLC only in a sale. The packs and the Rust + DLC Bundle get discounted at the same time as the game.
- Pick PC if you can. It is $10 cheaper than console with no online subscription.
- Skip shady key sites. A revoked key or a stolen Steam login costs far more than you saved.
- Buy just before force wipe. Every server starts fresh on the first Thursday of the month, so new players start level with everyone. Check the next Rust force wipe before you buy.
