Rust Sofa: Cost, Comfort, HP & Every Sofa Version (2026)

Rust base building guide, 2026

The sofa is a cheap piece of furniture that does more than look nice. Sit on it and you get comfort, which makes your health come back faster and helps you warm up, and it has room for two players at once. You can craft one on your first day, because it needs no workbench and the blueprint is free.

This Rust sofa guide covers what a sofa costs, how comfort works, where to place it, how much health it has, how to destroy one, the three sofa versions in the game, and how it compares to the chair and the rug.

TL;DR The Sofa costs 100 wood and 30 cloth, needs no workbench and is a default blueprint, so there is no scrap to spend. It seats two and gives comfort while you sit on it. It has about 200 HP, twice a chair or a rug, and a single molotov burns it down. There is also a Sofa – Pattern you get by owning its store skin, and a Twitch Rivals 2025 Sofa from a December 2025 Twitch drop.

Sofa Cost in Rust

The sofa crafts straight from your inventory, so you do not need to build a workbench first.

Rust sofa craft cost: 100 wood plus 30 cloth, no workbench, 30 second craft or 15 seconds at a Workbench 1, stacks to 2, recycles into 60 wood and 18 cloth, repairs for 15 cloth

Wood comes from any tree, and cloth comes from hemp plants and from skinning animals, so an early wipe player can usually afford a sofa within the first hour.

Sofa Blueprint

The sofa is a default blueprint. Every player can craft it from the start of a wipe, with no research table or tech tree scrap needed. The only reason to research one is to make a physical blueprint for an Industrial Crafter, which needs a blueprint item to build things automatically.

Sofa Comfort: What It Does

Comfort shows up as a status on the right of your screen. The more comfort you have, the faster your health regenerates, and it also helps you warm up when you are cold. A sofa gives comfort while you are sitting on it.

Rust sofa comfort: the sofa gives comfort while seated and seats two, a chair gives comfort while seated with one seat, and comfort does not stack so only your best source counts
Sit down to heal faster, and bring a friend.
  • Two seats: you and a teammate can both sit and both get comfort at the same time.
  • No stacking: comfort only uses your best source, so sitting on a sofa next to a bear skin rug or a campfire does not add them together.
  • Regen needs the basics: health only comes back when you are fed, watered, warm, not bleeding and have not been hit for a few seconds.
Tip: Comfort is a nice extra after a fight, but it is slow. If you need health right now, use a bandage, a honey bandage or a syringe and then sit down to finish the heal.

Where to Place a Sofa

How to place a sofa in Rust: craft it for 100 wood and 30 cloth, pick a flat floor, have tool cupboard access in base range, and put it near your sleeping bag
Pick the spot where you spend the most time.

A sofa goes on a flat surface such as your floors and foundations. Inside someone’s building range you need to be authorised on the tool cupboard to place it. It is two seats wide, so leave room in front of it to walk past, and keep it out of doorways where it can get in the way.

The sofa is decoration. It does not count as a wall, it will not stop bullets, and it does not add to your upkeep.

How to Destroy a Sofa

How to destroy a sofa in Rust: 1 molotov, about 14 seconds with a hatchet, about 10 seconds with a salvaged hammer, 5 fire arrows, 3 F1 grenades or 1 satchel charge
About 200 HP, and sofas burn.
ToolAmountNote
Molotov Cocktail1Cheapest, no sulfur, about 18 seconds of burning
Fire arrows5From a hunting bow, crossbow or compound bow
Hatchet1About 14 seconds of hits
Salvaged Hammer1About 10 seconds of hits
Chainsaw1About 6 seconds
F1 Grenade3180 sulfur
Beancan Grenade4480 sulfur
Satchel Charge1480 sulfur, overkill
Assault Rifle40 bulletsRegular 5.56 ammo

These numbers take about twice as much as a chair or a rug, which is how we get the 200 HP figure. Nobody raids for a sofa, but it matters if you want to clear one out of a base you took over.

Every Sofa Version in Rust

Every sofa in Rust: the default Sofa with a free blueprint, the Sofa - Pattern you unlock by owning the store skin, and the Twitch Rivals 2025 Sofa from the Team Battle VI Twitch drop in December 2025
Three sofas, one recipe.
  • Sofa: the plain, worn brown sofa everyone can craft.
  • Sofa – Pattern: a floral version. It unlocks when you own its skin, which has been sold on the Rust Item Store. It uses the same 100 wood and 30 cloth recipe.
  • Twitch Rivals 2025 Sofa: a purple Twitch branded sofa from the Twitch Rivals Team Battle VI drops in December 2025. That drop has ended, so you can only have it if you claimed it then.

All three seat two and work the same way. For how skins work in general, see the Rust skins guide.

Sofa vs Chair vs Rug

Sofa vs chair vs rug in Rust: sofa costs 100 wood and 30 cloth with no workbench, 2 seats and about 200 HP; chair costs 50 wood and 75 metal fragments at Workbench 1 with 1 seat and about 100 HP; rug costs 25 cloth with no seats and 100 HP
Cost, seats and health side by side.

The sofa is the best value early on: it is free to learn, needs no workbench, and two people can use it. A chair costs metal fragments and a workbench. A rug gives comfort while you stand, which is handy where you work rather than sit, like next to the furnaces.

Rust Sofa Tips

Rust sofa tips: put a sofa by the tool cupboard, put one near your sleeping bag, keep fire away, eat and drink first, recycle spare sofas for wood and cloth, and use the pattern sofa if you own the skin
Cheap item, real perks.
  1. Sofa by the TC. You spend a lot of time sorting loot and paying upkeep, so sit and heal while you do it.
  2. Sofa at the bag. Put one next to the sleeping bag or bed you respawn on in your base, so you heal faster after a death.
  3. Keep fire away. One molotov burns a sofa, so do not put it right behind a window a raider can throw through.
  4. Eat and drink first. Comfort only speeds up regen when you are fed and watered.
  5. Recycle spares. A sofa you do not need recycles into 60 wood and 18 cloth.
  6. Use the pattern. If you own the Sofa – Pattern, it costs the same, so there is no reason not to use it.
