Barricades Rust: All 8 Types, Cost, HP, Damage & Raid Cost (2026)

Rust base building guide, 2026

Barricades are the cheapest way to change a fight in Rust. Drop one on a roof and you have somewhere to peek from. Ring your base with spikes and every raider who hugs your walls bleeds for it. Pick the wrong one, though, and a single molotov burns through it before you can reload.

This barricades Rust guide covers all eight barricades in the game: what each one costs, how much HP it has, which ones hurt players, the cheapest way to destroy each one, and where they actually earn their place in your base.

TL;DR Rust has 8 barricades. The Stone Barricade (100 stones, 100 HP) is the cheapest and needs no workbench. The Sandbag Barricade (50 stones + 5 cloth since the October 2026 update, 200 HP) is the best all-round cover and now upgrades into a bunker. The Wooden, Barbed Wooden, Metal and Medieval barricades damage anyone who touches them, and the barbed and metal ones also slow players down. The Metal Barricade is the toughest at 600 HP and takes 4 satchels or 1 C4. Every wooden barricade burns down with one or two molotovs.
Rust barricades at a glance: the barbed wooden barricade damages and slows players, the stone barricade is the cheapest at 100 stones with no workbench, the metal barricade is the toughest at 600 HP, four types hurt on touch and sandbags cost 50 stones and 5 cloth for 200 HP
Every Rust barricade has one job it does best.

Every Barricade in Rust

Barricades are deployables, not building blocks. You craft them, place them with the left mouse button, and they sit wherever you put them: on the ground, on a foundation or on your roof. Most of them work outside your tool cupboard range, but they decay much faster there.

Rust Barricade Craft Costs

Three barricades need no workbench at all, which makes them the first things you can put down on wipe day. The rest need a Workbench Level 1 or 2 and a blueprint from the research table.

Rust barricade craft costs: stone barricade 100 stones, wooden barricade cover 250 wood, wooden barricade 300 wood and 1 rope, sandbag barricade 50 stones and 5 cloth at workbench 1, barbed wooden barricade 300 wood 50 metal fragments and 1 rope at workbench 1, medieval barricade 300 wood and 50 metal fragments, concrete barricade 200 stones and metal barricade 200 metal fragments and 2 metal blades at workbench 2

The wooden and barbed barricades both need rope, which is easy to lose track of early on because it also goes into sewing kits and satchels. The metal barricade is the one to watch: it eats two metal blades, and a recycler hands both back, so a broken-down metal barricade is a decent source of blades. The cloth for sandbags comes from hemp or the cloth guide methods.

Rust Barricade Health

None of the barricades are walls. Even the toughest one has less HP than a single stone wall, so think of them as cover and obstacles, not as part of your base’s armour.

Rust barricade health from toughest to weakest: metal barricade 600 HP, concrete barricade 500 HP, barbed wooden barricade 400 HP, medieval barricade 400 HP, wooden barricade 250 HP, sandbag barricade 200 HP and stone barricade 100 HP
Barricade HP, from the 600 HP metal barricade down to the 100 HP stone one.

The Wooden Barricade Cover is the odd one out. It is built as quick gunfight cover, it takes about as long to chop as a wooden barricade, and it decays in roughly 15 minutes outside building privilege (about 2 hours 30 minutes inside it). Put it down when you need it, not as a permanent piece.

Which Barricades Hurt Players?

Four barricades fight back. The Wooden Barricade has sharpened spikes that hurt players and animals that run into it. The Barbed Wooden and Metal barricades add barbed wire, which damages players, makes them bleed and slows their movement while they are in contact. The Medieval Barricade causes heavy bleeding to anyone who touches it or hits it with a melee weapon.

Which Rust barricades hurt players: wooden, barbed wooden, metal and medieval barricades damage on touch, with barbed wire also slowing and bleeding; stone, sandbag, concrete and wooden cover barricades are cover only, like the barbed wire and barriers at military bases
Spikes and wire damage anyone who touches them. The other four are pure cover.

The Stone, Sandbag, Concrete and Wooden Cover barricades do no damage. Their job is to stop bullets and block movement. The damage from spikes is small per touch, so a spiked ring will not kill a raider, but it makes them slow and bloody while your auto turrets or shotgun traps do the real work.

How to Destroy Barricades in Rust

Never spend C4 on a barricade. Fire handles everything made of wood, and a few grenades handle the stone ones.

Cheapest way to destroy each Rust barricade: stone 3 F1 grenades for 180 sulfur, wooden 1 molotov, wooden cover 2 molotovs, sandbag 6 F1 grenades for 360 sulfur, barbed wooden 2 molotovs, medieval 2 molotovs, concrete 15 F1 grenades for 900 sulfur and metal 4 satchel charges for 1,920 sulfur

Melee works too on the weaker ones. One hatchet breaks a stone barricade in about 12 seconds, a wooden barricade in about 18 seconds and a sandbag in about 24 seconds, and a jackhammer clears any of them except the metal one in under 20 seconds. The metal barricade is the exception: it takes dozens of tools and half an hour of swinging, so bring satchels. For walls and doors behind the barricades, use our raid calculator and the Rust explosives guide.

The Medieval Barricade

The Medieval Barricade arrived with the Primitive Update on 6 February 2025, alongside the siege weapons from the Medieval Pack DLC. It is a medieval-looking take on the barbed wooden barricade with the same 400 HP, crafted from 300 wood and 50 metal fragments at a Workbench Level 1.

The Medieval Barricade came with the Primitive Update siege weapons.

You need the Medieval Pack DLC to craft it, and the blueprint costs 120 scrap at the research table. Anyone who touches it or hits it with a melee weapon takes heavy bleed damage. Raid it the same way as a barbed wooden barricade: fire is cheapest.

Where to Use Barricades

Where to use barricades in Rust: sandbags for roof and compound cover, barbed wire to funnel raiders on the open approach, wooden cover for monument fights, spikes around the base, a concrete barricade to block a road, and not for blocking ladders
Cover to fight from, spikes to slow raiders down.
  • Roof and compound cover. Sandbags on your roof give your defenders something to peek from during an online raid.
  • Funnel raiders. Barbed wire across the open side of your base slows anyone running in, so they stay in your line of fire longer.
  • Monument fights. A Wooden Barricade Cover is quick cover when a fight breaks out at a monument. It decays fast out there, which does not matter for a ten-minute fight.
  • Around the base. Spiked barricades along your walls punish players who hug them while they set charges.
  • Choke points. A concrete barricade with 500 HP is a solid road or doorway blocker that ignores fire.
  • Not on ladders. Barricades used to stop ladders being placed against walls. Facepunch removed that in Devblog 180, so they no longer protect against ladder raids.
Want a bunker? Sandbag barricades now upgrade through four stages, ending in a bunker with a firing window. Our sandbag update guide covers how it works.
Not the same as monument blockers The heavy barricades sitting in red keycard monuments are monument blockers, a separate system from the Breach and Clear update. You cannot craft or pick those up.

Rust Barricade Tips

Rust barricade tips: place barricades inside tool cupboard range because they decay fast outside it, start with stone barricades that need no workbench, burn wooden barricades with one molotov, recycle metal barricades to get both metal blades back, upgrade sandbags into a bunker and research the cheap ones for 15 scrap
Six rules for better barricades.
  • Place them in TC range. Barricades outside building privilege decay quickly, the wooden cover in about 15 minutes.
  • Start with stone. 100 stones, no workbench, and it is fireproof.
  • Burn the wooden ones. One low grade fuel molotov removes a wooden barricade for zero sulfur.
  • Recycle metal barricades. The recycler gives back both metal blades plus 120 metal fragments.
  • Upgrade your sandbags. Stacked sandbags and the bunker give far more cover than a row of single bags.
  • Research the cheap ones. Five of the eight cost only 15 scrap at the research table.
