Mining Outpost Rust: Loot, Recycler, Scrap per Run & Roof Access (2026)

Rust monument guide, 2026

The Mining Outpost is the green warehouse you keep driving past on the road. It looks like nothing from the outside, but it is one of the best first stops after a wipe: it has a green recycler, a repair bench, eight loot containers and no radiation or scientists at all. You can run it naked, loot it in about a minute and recycle everything you found before you leave the building.

This Mining Outpost Rust guide covers what the monument is, its layout, every crate and how the loot changes by map zone, how much scrap one loop is worth, the recycler rates since the Power Trip update, the repair bench, how to get on the roof, what to bring and the fastest loot route.

TL;DR The Mining Outpost is a small roadside monument (tier 1, 2 or 3) with no radiation, no scientists, no puzzle and no keycard. It has 8 loot containers: 6 crates and 2 vehicle parts crates. In the safest map zone the 4 main crates are basic crates; further in they are brown crates, and in tier 3 two crates can roll military. One loop is worth about 38 to 47 scrap before recycling. It has 1 green recycler (50%, or 60% once the Power Plant grid is powered), 1 repair bench, a motorbike and a bicycle spawn. It is not a safe zone.

What Is the Mining Outpost in Rust?

The Mining Outpost is a small roadside monument that spawns next to the road network on procedural maps, in the same family as Oxum’s Gas Station and the Abandoned Supermarket. It is a single open warehouse with a red steel roof frame and green walls, packed with tall shelves of wooden crates, pallets, a forklift and a small wooden shack. In the game files and map editors it is still called warehouse, which is why some players and older guides call it “the Warehouse”.

It can spawn in any of the three map tiers, and bigger maps often have more than one. It is not a mining monument in the sense of the quarries or the Giant Excavator: there are no ore nodes or machines to run here. It is a loot and recycle stop, and it is also on Facepunch’s hand-made Hapis Island map. For how it fits with every other landmark, see our Rust monuments guide.

Mining Outpost Layout

Everything is under one roof, which is what makes the outpost so quick. Walk in through the open front and you can see almost every crate from the doorway.

Mining Outpost layout in Rust, six in-game screenshots: the main hall with pallets, crates and tall shelves, the small wooden shack, the green recycler by the shelves, the back corner with the repair bench and car parts, the shed under the warehouse roof and the tyre stacks outside
One warehouse: the main hall, the shack, and the back corner.
  • The main hall. Rows of tall shelves stacked with wooden crates, pallets on the floor and a forklift. Loot crates sit on the floor, against the shelves and between the pallets.
  • The small shack. A wooden cabin inside the hall with a door, a window and crates inside and beside it.
  • The recycler. A green recycler against the wall, between the pallets and the shelves. There is a window right next to it.
  • The back corner. The repair bench and the vehicle parts crates near the tyres and the forklift.
  • The shed and the roof. A smaller shed is built under the warehouse roof, and the roof itself has holes and skylights you can drop through.
  • Outside. Tyre stacks against the walls on both sides, pallets, and the road running past the front.

Two light switches turn the warehouse lights on and off. They need no power, so you can kill the lights at night if you would rather not be seen through the windows.

Mining Outpost Rust Loot and Crates

The Mining Outpost has 8 loot containers on every map, but what they are depends on the map zone the outpost spawned in. RustHelp’s spawn data (verified 1 October 2026) splits them like this:

Mining Outpost loot in Rust: 4 main crate spots that are basic crates in tier 1 and brown crates in tier 2 and 3 with a 15 to 20 minute respawn, 2 slow brown crate spots with a 30 to 36 minute respawn that roll 80% brown or 20% military in tier 3, and 2 vehicle parts crates
Eight containers, and the zone decides how good they are.
SpawnCountTier 1 zoneTier 2 zoneTier 3 zoneRespawn
Main crate spots4Basic crateBrown crateBrown crate15-20 min
Slow crate spots2Brown crateBrown crate80% brown, 20% military30-36 min
Vehicle parts crates2Vehicle partsVehicle partsVehicle parts15-20 min

The brown crate is the common wooden crate you see at every roadside monument: 5 scrap plus components such as gears, metal pipes, springs, road signs, sheet metal and semi bodies. The basic crate is the small two-slot box with 3 scrap and mostly clothes, tools and furniture. Vehicle parts crates hold car engine parts (pistons, crankshafts, carburetors, spark plugs and valves) plus 8 scrap, which is worth grabbing even if you never build a car. Our Rust loot tables list every drop chance.

There are no food boxes, no barrels inside the warehouse and no keycard spawn. Oxum’s Gas Station and the Abandoned Supermarket both add food boxes and a green keycard, so the Mining Outpost is the pure scrap and components stop of the three.

How Much Scrap Is a Mining Outpost Run?

Here is our own math, using the container counts above and the fixed scrap per crate from the game’s loot tables (basic crate 3, brown crate 5, military crate 8, vehicle parts crate 8). It counts only the scrap in the crates, not what you get by recycling the components.

Scrap per Mining Outpost run in Rust: about 38 scrap in a tier 1 zone (4 basic crates at 3, 2 brown crates at 5, 2 vehicle parts crates at 8), 46 in a tier 2 zone and about 47 in a tier 3 zone with the military crate chance
38 to 47 scrap a loop, before you recycle anything.
Map zoneCratesCrate scrap per full loop
Tier 14 basic, 2 brown, 2 vehicle parts38
Tier 26 brown, 2 vehicle parts46
Tier 34 brown, 2 brown or military, 2 vehicle partsabout 47 on average

The real value is the components. A brown crate usually drops a gear, pipe, spring or road sign, and recycling those at the outpost turns a 46 scrap loop into a lot more, plus metal fragments and high quality metal. Because the main crates come back every 15 to 20 minutes, looping two or three roadside monuments on the same road is one of the fastest ways to get a first workbench. Our how to get scrap in Rust guide has the full plan.

The Mining Outpost Recycler

The recycler is the main reason most players stop here. It is a normal green monument recycler, so it pays exactly the same as the recycler at Launch Site, and a lot more than the safe zone recyclers at Outpost and Bandit Camp.

Mining Outpost recycler in Rust: in-game screenshot of the green recycler inside the warehouse; it pays 50% with the Power Plant grid offline and 60% with the grid powered, runs a 5 second cycle or 4.5 at max power, is not a safe zone, and safe zone recyclers at Outpost pay 40%

Mining Outpost, grid powered60% of item value5 seconds (4.5 at max power)
Safe zone (Outpost, Bandit Camp)40% of item value8 seconds
Red recycler at the Power Plant, max power75% of item value4 seconds

Since the Power Trip update in August 2026, every green monument recycler depends on the Power Plant grid. Every wipe starts with the grid off, so the outpost pays 50% until players feed Heavy Fuses into the plant. Our recycler guide has the full yield chart for every component.

Listen first A running recycler makes a low hum you can hear from outside. If you hear it, someone is inside and busy. The window next to the recycler also lets a player outside open it if they jump at the right moment, so do not walk away from a full recycler.

The Repair Bench

The outpost’s repair bench works like the one you craft for your base. Put a damaged weapon or tool in it to repair it for a share of its crafting cost (each repair lowers its maximum condition a little), or use it to change the skin on an item to any skin you own. It is handy for fixing a hatchet or a pickaxe on a farming run, and our Rust skins guide covers how skins work.

Mining Outpost Roof, Fights and Ambush Spots

The Mining Outpost has no NPCs, so the only danger is other players, and in the first hours after a wipe that danger is real. Fresh spawns all run the same cheap roadside monuments, and the open hall gives you very little cover once you are inside.

Two ways onto the roof and one way down into the hall.
  • Getting on the roof. Jump up the tyre stacks against either side wall, or climb the pallets by the shed, crouch jump onto the shed under the warehouse and jump up through a gap in the roof.
  • From the roof you can see the road, both ends of the building and, through the skylights and holes, most of the hall. It is the best spot to wait out a fight or to watch the recycler.
  • Inside, players hide on top of and under the tall shelves and inside the shack. Check the shelves before you start recycling.
  • The patrol helicopter is allowed to crash at the outpost, so a downed heli can turn a quiet monument into a busy one. See our Patrol Helicopter guide.

What to Bring to the Mining Outpost

What to bring to the Mining Outpost in Rust: a cheap gun such as a Revolver or bow early and a Semi-Automatic Rifle later, bandages, components from barrels on the way to recycle, any clothes since there is no radiation, and a ride along the road
The Mining Outpost kit is light.
  • A cheap gun. A bow or Revolver on day one, a Semi-Automatic Rifle later. Fights inside are close.
  • Bandages. Most fights here are short and close range.
  • Components to recycle. Break the road barrels on the way in and recycle everything in one go. Our components guide says what to keep and what to recycle.
  • Any clothes. There is no radiation, so anything works, including nothing.
  • A ride. The outpost sits on the road, so a motorbike or car lets you chain it with the next roadside monument. One motorbike and one bicycle can also spawn at the outpost.

The Best Mining Outpost Loot Route

The whole monument is one room, so the route is simple. This loop takes about a minute:

  1. Scout from the road. Listen for the recycler hum and look at the roof edge before you walk into the open front.
  2. Loot the hall. Crates on the floor, along the shelves and between the pallets.
  3. Check the shack and the crates beside its door.
  4. Grab the two vehicle parts crates in the back corner by the repair bench.
  5. Recycle the components and anything you do not need, then take the scrap.
  6. Move on. Hit the next roadside monument or barrels down the road and come back in 15 to 20 minutes when the main crates respawn.
Building nearby? A small base a short walk from the Mining Outpost gives you a full rate recycler on your doorstep for the whole wipe. You cannot build inside its roughly 38,750 square metre no build zone, so check our monument blockers guide for how close you can get, and find a server that suits you on our Rust server browser.

Mining Outpost Rust FAQ

What is the Mining Outpost in Rust?

The Mining Outpost is a small roadside monument: a single green warehouse with shelves, pallets and a shack next to the road. It has 8 loot containers, a green recycler and a repair bench, with no radiation, no scientists and no puzzle. In the game files it is called warehouse.

Is there a recycler at the Mining Outpost?

Yes, one green recycler inside the warehouse, against the wall between the pallets and the shelves. It pays 50% of an item’s value when the Power Plant grid is off and 60% when the grid is powered, the same as every other green monument recycler.

How many crates are at the Mining Outpost?

8 loot containers: 4 main crate spots, 2 slower crate spots and 2 vehicle parts crates. The 4 main spots are basic crates in tier 1 map zones and brown crates in tier 2 and 3, and the 2 slower spots can be military crates 20% of the time in tier 3.

How much scrap is a Mining Outpost run?

About 38 scrap in a tier 1 zone, 46 in tier 2 and about 47 on average in tier 3, counting only the scrap inside the crates. Recycling the gears, pipes, springs and road signs from the brown crates adds a lot more.

How long does Mining Outpost loot take to respawn?

The 4 main crates and the 2 vehicle parts crates respawn every 15 to 20 minutes. The 2 slower crate spots respawn every 30 to 36 minutes.

Does the Mining Outpost have radiation or scientists?

No to both. You can run it in any clothes. The only threat is other players, especially early in a wipe.

Is there a puzzle or keycard at the Mining Outpost?

No. There is no fuse box, card reader or keycard spawn at the Mining Outpost. Oxum’s Gas Station and the Abandoned Supermarket are the roadside monuments with a green keycard spawn.

How do you get on the Mining Outpost roof?

Jump up the tyre stacks against either side of the warehouse, or climb the pallets next to the shed, crouch jump onto the shed under the warehouse and jump up through a gap in the roof. The roof has holes you can drop through into the hall.

Is the Mining Outpost a safe zone?

No. It is a normal PvP monument with no turrets, vending machines or safe zone rules. The safe zone monuments are Outpost and Bandit Camp.
