Jumpsuit Rust: Stats, How to Get It, Variants & Item IDs (2026)

Rust clothing guide, 2026

The Jumpsuit is the orange one-piece suit the Tunnel Dwellers wear in Rust’s underground rail network. Plenty of players see it, want it, and then find out it is not in any crafting menu. That is because the jumpsuit is not a player item at all: it has no blueprint, no loot table and no vendor, and on a normal server only an admin can spawn one.

This guide covers what the Rust jumpsuit is, its exact protection stats, the three jumpsuit variants (orange, blue and green), who wears them, how to get one on your own or a modded server, how it compares with the hazmat suit and other clothing, and what a recycler gives back.

TL;DR The Jumpsuit (jumpsuit.suit, ID -97459906) is the outfit of the Tunnel Dwellers. It covers your chest and legs and gives 25% projectile, 40% melee, 13% bite, 7% explosion and 4% radiation protection. It cannot be crafted, researched, looted or bought, and dwellers never drop it, so the only way to get one is an admin spawn (inventory.give jumpsuit.suit 1) or a modded server kit. The Blue Jumpsuit (Underwater Lab dwellers) and Waterwell NPC Jumpsuit (green, with a gas mask) work the same way. A powered monument recycler turns one into 30 cloth.
Rust jumpsuit at a glance: 25% bullet and 40% melee protection on the chest and legs, 7% explosion and 4% radiation plus 13% bite, worn by Tunnel Dwellers, not craftable, recycles into 25 to 30 cloth, admin spawn only

What Is the Jumpsuit in Rust?

The Jumpsuit (shortname jumpsuit.suit) is a rust-orange, one-piece work suit with a belt and shoulder patches. Facepunch added it in March 2021 with the update that brought workcarts and the underground train tunnels, as the uniform of the new Tunnel Dwellers. Its in-game description is simply “A Jumpsuit”.

It sits in the attire category next to the hazmat suit and the other suits in our Rust clothing guide, but unlike them it was built for NPCs. Players can only wear it when a server hands it out. That is why it shows up in the Rust item IDs list and in admin spawn menus, but never in your crafting tab.

Every Jumpsuit Variant in Rust

Every jumpsuit in Rust: the orange Jumpsuit jumpsuit.suit worn by Tunnel Dwellers, the Blue Jumpsuit jumpsuit.suit.blue worn by Underwater Lab dwellers, and the green Waterwell NPC Jumpsuit jumpsuit.waterwellnpc with a built-in gas mask
Three colours, one set of stats.

There are three jumpsuits in the game files. They share the same protection and the same 50 cloth hidden recipe that sets their recycle value, and none of them can be crafted.

The Blue Jumpsuit arrived with the Underwater Labs in August 2021 and dresses the lab dwellers. The Waterwell NPC Jumpsuit is a green suit with the gas mask already attached, so it fills your head slot too.

Rust Jumpsuit Protection

Rust jumpsuit protection stats: 40% melee, 25% projectile, 13% bite, 7% explosion and 4% radiation on the chest and legs
Good against melee, close to useless against radiation.

Armor in Rust only protects the body parts it covers. The jumpsuit covers your chest and legs, so it cuts 25% of bullet damage and 40% of melee damage to those areas. That melee number is high for cloth: a hoodie and pants together give 15% melee on each part.

The weak spot is radiation. At just 4%, the jumpsuit will not keep you alive at a high radiation monument, even though it looks like work gear. For rads you still want a hazmat suit, which gives 50%.

Who Wears the Jumpsuit in Rust?

Who wears the jumpsuit in Rust: Tunnel Dwellers in the train tunnels wear the orange jumpsuit, Underwater Lab dwellers wear the blue one, both with gas masks, and neither drops the outfit when killed
You see the suit on NPCs, but their corpses never carry it.
  • Tunnel Dwellers patrol the underground train stations. They wear the orange Jumpsuit and a Gas Mask (hat.gas.mask), have 125 HP, and drop components, sewing kits and tarp, which is why the tunnels are one of the best mid-wipe farms.
  • Underwater Lab dwellers guard the labs in the same gas mask with the Blue Jumpsuit.
  • The waterwell NPC wears the green version.

Rust NPCs drop a loot container when they die, not the gear they are wearing. So no matter how many dwellers you kill, the jumpsuit and gas mask never end up in your inventory.

How to Get a Jumpsuit in Rust

How to get a jumpsuit in Rust: only an admin can spawn it with inventory.give jumpsuit.suit 1 in the F1 console, item ID -97459906; it cannot be researched or crafted, NPCs never drop it, no vending machine sells it, and some modded servers give it in kits
No crafting, no loot: it is an admin item.

On official and vanilla community servers there is no way to get a jumpsuit. It is not on the tech tree, a research table will not take it, no crate or barrel rolls it, and neither Outpost nor Bandit Camp sells it.

On a server where you have admin rights, open the F1 console and type:

inventory.give jumpsuit.suit 1

Swap in jumpsuit.suit.blue or jumpsuit.waterwellnpc for the other colours, and hat.gas.mask for the matching mask. Our Rust admin commands guide lists every give command, and hosting your own Rust server is the easy way to try the outfit. Many roleplay and modded servers also hand jumpsuits out in kits through server plugins.

Jumpsuit vs Other Rust Suits

Rust jumpsuit compared: Jumpsuit 25% bullet 40% melee 4% rads admin only, Hazmat Suit 30% bullet 30% melee 50% rads at a Workbench 2, Hoodie and Pants 35% bullet and 30% melee combined at a Workbench 2, and the Wetsuit for diving from loot
How it stacks up against the suits you can actually get.
OutfitBulletMeleeRadiationHow to get
Jumpsuit25%40%4%Admin spawn only
Hazmat Suit30%30%50%Craft at Workbench 2 (4 tarp, 2 sewing kits, 7 HQM)
Hoodie + Pants35% (20 + 15)30% (15 + 15)LowCraft at Workbench 2 and 1
WetsuitBuilt for diving, not fightingLoot only

So even if you could get one, the jumpsuit is not a hidden best-in-slot item. A hoodie and pants give more bullet protection, and the hazmat suit beats it everywhere except melee. Its real value is the look.

What to Wear With a Jumpsuit

The jumpsuit takes the place of a shirt and pants, but it counts as clothing rather than armor. On a server that gives it out, you can still wear a metal chest plate and a road sign kilt over it, plus gloves, boots and a helmet. The full dweller look is the orange suit with a gas mask on top. See our Rust armor guide for the pieces worth layering.

Recycling a Jumpsuit in Rust

Recycling a jumpsuit in Rust: 1 Jumpsuit gives 30 cloth at a powered monument recycler, 25 cloth with the Power Plant off, 37 to 38 cloth at the red recycler on max power and 20 cloth at a safe zone recycler
Every jumpsuit colour recycles into cloth only.

All three jumpsuits recycle into cloth, based on a hidden 50 cloth recipe:

RecyclerYieldCloth from 1 jumpsuit
Monument recycler, Power Plant off50%25
Monument recycler, powered grid60%30
Red Power Plant recycler, max power75%37 to 38
Safe zone recycler (Outpost, Bandit Camp)40%20

Our recycler guide explains the four recycler tiers, and the Rust cloth guide covers what to do with the cloth.

Rust Jumpsuit Tips

Rust jumpsuit tips: dwellers take 40% less melee damage, wear a hazmat suit for radiation because the jumpsuit gives 4%, armor fits over it, recycle spares for up to 30 cloth, pair it with a gas mask, and a dropped jumpsuit despawns in 5 minutes
Quick facts for fighting dwellers or running your own server.
  • Shoot dwellers, don’t swing at them. The jumpsuit cuts melee by 40% but bullets by only 25%, so a gun is far better than a spear in the tunnels.
  • Don’t trust it for radiation. 4% is nothing. Wear a hazmat suit or take anti-radiation pills.
  • Don’t farm dwellers for the suit. It is not in their loot, so farm them for components and sewing kits instead.
  • Pick it up fast. A dropped jumpsuit despawns in just 5 minutes, much faster than the 20 minutes for crafted clothing.
  • Recycle spares. If a server gives them out, each one is up to 30 cloth at a powered recycler.
  • Server owners: the jumpsuit and gas mask make an easy themed starter kit for roleplay servers.

Rust Jumpsuit FAQ

How do you get a jumpsuit in Rust?

Only an admin can spawn one, with inventory.give jumpsuit.suit 1 in the F1 console. The jumpsuit cannot be crafted, researched, looted or bought, and Tunnel Dwellers do not drop it. Some modded servers give it out in kits.

Can you craft a jumpsuit in Rust?

No. The jumpsuit has no blueprint and does not appear on the tech tree. The game files hold a hidden 50 cloth recipe, but it is only used to work out what the jumpsuit gives when recycled.

Do Tunnel Dwellers drop the jumpsuit?

No. Tunnel Dwellers wear the orange jumpsuit and a gas mask, but Rust NPCs drop a loot container, not their outfit. Their loot is mostly components, sewing kits, tarp and ammo.

What protection does the Rust jumpsuit give?

The jumpsuit covers the chest and legs and gives 25% projectile, 40% melee, 13% bite, 7% explosion and 4% radiation protection.

Is the jumpsuit better than a hazmat suit?

No. The hazmat suit gives 30% bullet, 30% melee and 50% radiation protection, against 25%, 40% and 4% for the jumpsuit. The jumpsuit only wins on melee, and you cannot get it on a normal server anyway.

What is the Blue Jumpsuit in Rust?

The Blue Jumpsuit (jumpsuit.suit.blue, item ID 1601468620) is the outfit of the Underwater Lab dwellers. It has the same stats as the orange jumpsuit and is also admin spawn only.

What does a jumpsuit recycle into?

Cloth only: 30 cloth at a powered monument recycler, 25 with the Power Plant off, 37 to 38 at the red recycler on max power and 20 at a safe zone recycler.

What is the jumpsuit item ID in Rust?

The Jumpsuit is jumpsuit.suit with item ID -97459906. The Blue Jumpsuit is 1601468620 and the Waterwell NPC Jumpsuit is -874908751.
