Surgeon Scrubs Rust: Stats, How to Get Them & Crafting Recipe (2026)

Rust clothing and skins guide, 2026

Halloween is close, and every year the same outfit shows up on beaches and at monuments: blue hospital scrubs, a surgical cap and a lot of fake blood. Those are Surgeon Scrubs, a full body suit that has been in Rust since the Halloween 2019 update. Unlike the Ninja Suit, which shares its stats, you can still get a pair today.

This surgeon scrubs Rust guide covers what the suit is, its real protection stats, how to get it, the crafting recipe, how it compares to the Ninja Suit and the Hazmat Suit, what it recycles into, how it fits into the Halloween event, and whether it is worth wearing.

TL;DR Surgeon Scrubs are a blood-stained, full body cloth suit. They were sold in the Rust Item Store on October 18, 2019 for $9.99 and are now tradable on the Steam Market (around $50 in 2026). Owning them unlocks the recipe: 60 cloth and 2 sewing kits at a Workbench Level 1. They have also turned up in Halloween loot bags. They block 25% projectile, 30% melee, 8% bite, 15% radiation, 8% cold and 5% explosion, the same as the Ninja Suit. They look great, but a metal facemask alone blocks 50% of bullets to your head.

What Are Surgeon Scrubs in Rust?

Surgeon Scrubs are a one-piece outfit: blue scrubs, a surgical cap and mask, and plenty of blood. In the game files they are halloween.surgeonsuit, and the item description reads “A bloody surgeon outfit. Protects your entire body and provides good protection while giving off a creepy halloween vibe.”

They are a full body suit, like the Hazmat Suit. That means they take every clothing slot at once: you cannot wear a facemask, chest plate, kilt, gloves or boots with them. A backpack still fits, because it has its own slot (see our Large Backpack guide).

Like the Ninja Suit, Surgeon Scrubs are their own item, not a skin you apply to another piece of clothing. If you own them on Steam, they appear in your crafting menu as a separate recipe. Our Rust skins guide explains how this works for other store items.

How to Get Surgeon Scrubs in Rust

How to get surgeon scrubs in Rust: buy them on the Steam Market, keep them in your Steam inventory to unlock the recipe, then craft them at Workbench 1 from 60 cloth and 2 sewing kits; they also drop from Halloween loot bags and cannot be researched
Own the Steam item and the recipe is yours on every server.

There are two ways to get Surgeon Scrubs:

  1. Own the Steam item. The scrubs were sold in the Rust Item Store on October 18, 2019 for $9.99. They are tradable and marketable, so today you buy a pair on the Steam Community Market, where they sat at around $50 to $55 in 2026. Once they are in your Steam inventory, the recipe unlocks in game on every server, and you can craft as many as you want.
  2. Find them during Halloween. Surgeon Scrubs are one of the attire drops in Rust’s Halloween loot bags, next to the Scarecrow Suit and Mummy Suit. A suit you find in a bag is a normal in-game item: you can wear it, but it does not unlock the recipe.

You cannot research Surgeon Scrubs at a research table or unlock them on the tech tree. The Steam item is the only way to craft them.

Keep the Steam item The recipe only works while the scrubs are in your Steam inventory. If you sell, trade or break the item on Steam, you lose the ability to craft them in game.

The full list of paid items, and how the weekly store works, is in our Rust Item Store guide.

Surgeon Scrubs Crafting Recipe

Surgeon scrubs Rust crafting recipe: 60 cloth plus 2 sewing kits makes 1 pair of Surgeon Scrubs in about 1 second at Workbench Level 1, compared with the Ninja Suit at no workbench and the Hazmat Suit at Workbench 2
One of the cheapest full body suits in the game.
IngredientAmountWhere to get it
Cloth60Hemp plants and animals
Sewing Kit2Barrels, crates and recycling rope or tarps
WorkbenchLevel 1Stand within range of any workbench
Craft timeAbout 1 secondSame at every workbench level

Workbench Level 1 is the first bench most players drop, so you can craft scrubs within minutes of a fresh wipe. That is still a step behind the Ninja Suit, which uses the same recipe with no bench at all, and well ahead of the Hazmat Suit, which needs a Workbench Level 2 plus tarps and high quality metal. Every other clothing recipe is in our Rust clothing guide.

Surgeon Scrubs vs Ninja Suit vs Hazmat Suit

Surgeon scrubs vs Ninja Suit vs Hazmat Suit in Rust: Surgeon Scrubs and Ninja Suit both 25% projectile and 15% radiation, Scrubs at Workbench 1 and on the Steam Market, Ninja Suit no workbench and no longer obtainable, Hazmat 30% projectile and 50% radiation at Workbench 2
Two cosmetic suits with the same numbers, and one real radiation suit.

Ninja Suit25%30%15%None2021 Twitch drop, closed
Hazmat Suit30%30%50%WB2Craft or loot

Surgeon Scrubs and the Ninja Suit share the same recipe, the same protection and the same recycle yield. The differences are the look, the workbench and the despawn time (40 minutes for scrubs, only 5 for the Ninja Suit). Since the Ninja Suit can no longer be obtained, the scrubs are the one most players can actually get. If you are heading into radiation, neither will do: the Hazmat Suit blocks 50% radiation against their 15%.

Surgeon Scrubs Recycle Yield and Despawn

Surgeon scrubs Rust recycle yield: 36 cloth and 2 sewing kits at a monument recycler, 24 cloth and 1 sewing kit at a safe zone, no scrap, and the suit despawns after 40 minutes on the ground
Recycling gives back most of the cloth, but no scrap.

Put Surgeon Scrubs in a recycler and you get 36 cloth and 2 sewing kits back, or 24 cloth and 1 sewing kit at a safe zone recycler. There is no scrap in them, so recycling is only worth it to get your sewing kits back for another craft.

A dropped pair despawns after 40 minutes on the ground, the same as a Hazmat Suit, so you have time to run back to your body if you die in them.

Surgeon Scrubs and the Halloween Event

Surgeon scrubs and the Rust Halloween event: Halloween Candy combines into loot bags, the Large Loot Bag holds the best Halloween loot and Surgeon Scrubs are one of its attire drops, next to the Scarecrow Suit, Mummy Suit and Frankenstein mask
The scrubs belong to Rust’s yearly Halloween outfit set.

Rust’s Halloween event normally starts in late October and runs into early November. During it, players collect Halloween Candy: 10 candy make a Small Loot Bag, 10 small bags make a Medium bag, and 10 medium bags make a Large Loot Bag, which holds the best Halloween loot. Bags can roll anything from scrap to weapons, and the attire pool includes Surgeon Scrubs, the Scarecrow Suit and the Mummy Suit.

For another Halloween outfit, see our Dracula Cape guide. Scrubs fill every slot, though, so you cannot wear a cape or mask on top of them.

Surgeon Scrubs Tips

Rust surgeon scrubs tips: use them as a day one suit for full cover at 60 cloth, drop a Workbench 1 because you need it to craft them, swap to armor for real PvP, and do not use them for radiation because 15% is not enough
A cheap suit for farming, not for fighting.
  • Use them as a day one suit. 60 cloth gives full body cover on fresh wipe, better than a burlap set.
  • Drop a Workbench 1 early. You cannot craft the scrubs without one.
  • Swap before a fight. 25% everywhere loses to a Metal Facemask (50% to the head) and a chest plate. Our Rust armor guide has the full breakdown.
  • Do not use them for radiation. 15% is not enough for hot rooms, wear a Hazmat Suit instead.
  • Keep the Steam item. Selling it removes the recipe from your crafting menu.

Every suit you craft is wiped on force wipe. Check when the next Rust force wipe is so you know how long you have to enjoy your kit.
