The Reinforced Glass Window is the top window insert in Rust. It costs 4 high quality metal at a Workbench 3, has 500 HP, and is bulletproof: you can see out through it, but nobody can shoot in, and you cannot shoot out either.
This reinforced glass window Rust guide covers what it costs, how to get the blueprint, how to place it, why you cannot shoot through it, the cheapest way to raid it, how it compares with metal bars and strengthened glass, its upkeep, and when it is worth using.
Reinforced Glass Window Cost
In materials the window is cheap. The real cost is reaching a Workbench 3, which most groups only have a day or two into a wipe.
| Stat | Reinforced Glass Window |
|---|---|
| Craft cost | 4 high quality metal |
| Workbench | Workbench 3 |
| Craft time | 15 seconds |
| Health | 500 HP |
| Bullets | Blocked both ways (see-through) |
| Research cost | 60 scrap |
| Stack size | 10 |
| Recycler | 3 high quality metal (2 at a safe zone recycler) |
| Upkeep | About 1 high quality metal a day |
| Item shortname | wall.window.bars.toptier (ID 671706427) |
The shortname still says “bars” because this item used to be the Reinforced Window Bars before Facepunch turned it into a glass window. Do not mix it up with the Strengthened Glass Window (wall.window.glass.reinforced), the cheaper Workbench 2 glass made from metal fragments.
Reinforced Glass Window Blueprint
The window is not a default blueprint. You can get it two ways:
- Research table: put a Reinforced Glass Window and 60 scrap into a research table. The window is used up.
- Tech tree: it sits on the Workbench 3 tech tree. Since the November 2025 update a node costs the same as researching it, so the unlock itself is 60 scrap, plus whatever nodes you need before it.
60 scrap is the 2026 price for a rare item. Older guides that say 125 scrap are using the price from before the update.
How to Place a Reinforced Glass Window
- Open the Building Plan, pick Window from the wall options and place it like a normal wall.
- Upgrade the window wall with a hammer. A Workbench 3 window belongs in a sheet metal or armored wall, or the wall itself becomes the easy way in.
- Hold the Reinforced Glass Window and aim at the opening to place it.
- Keep high quality metal in your tool cupboard so it does not decay.
Each window opening takes one insert: one glass window or one set of bars. Windows do not fit wall frames or doorways. For how window walls fit into a full base, see the Rust building guide.
Can You Shoot Through a Reinforced Glass Window?
No. It is the one window that is both see-through and bulletproof at full 500 HP. Bullets stop at the glass in both directions.
- Seeing out: you get a clear view of your compound, the road or a monument without giving a sniper a gap to shoot through.
- Shooting out: you cannot. If you want to fight from a window, use metal window bars instead.
- Auto turrets: a turret behind the glass cannot fire through it either, so turret windows need bars. Our auto turret guide covers placement.
- Explosives: bulletproof does not mean raid proof. Explosives and explosive ammo damage it like any other building piece.
Reinforced Glass Window Raid Cost
| Tool | Amount | Sulfur |
|---|---|---|
| Timed Explosive Charge (C4) | 2 | 4,400 (cheapest) |
| Explosive 5.56 Rifle Ammo | 200 | 5,000 |
| Rocket | 4 | 5,600 |
| Satchel Charge | 12 | 5,760 |
| Beancan Grenade | 56 | 6,720 |
| High Velocity Rocket | 34 | 6,800 |
| 40mm HE Grenade | 29 | – |
| MLRS Rocket | 3 | – |
| Jackhammer (hits) | 220 | – |
These are the same numbers as metal window bars, because both have 500 HP. A raider will usually hit the window wall or the wall next to it instead, so the window is rarely the weak point if the wall is upgraded. Compare every wall and door in the raid calculator, or see all explosives in the Rust explosives guide.
Reinforced Glass Window vs Bars and Strengthened Glass
Four inserts fit a window opening. The reinforced glass window is the only one with full 500 HP that also stops bullets.
| Insert | Cost | Health | Shoot through | C4 | Explo ammo |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wooden Window Bars | 50 wood, no bench | 250 HP | Yes | 1 | 49 |
| Metal Window Bars | 25 frags, WB1 | 500 HP | Yes | 2 | 200 |
| Strengthened Glass Window | 50 frags, WB2 | 350 HP | No | 2 | 140 |
| Reinforced Glass Window | 4 HQM, WB3 | 500 HP | No | 2 | 200 |
- Metal bars have the same 500 HP for 25 fragments, but bullets go through both ways. Use them where you want to shoot.
- Strengthened glass is also bulletproof but only has 350 HP, so 140 explosive rounds break it instead of 200.
- Reinforced glass combines the best of both: bulletproof like strengthened glass, with the health of metal bars.
To narrow the window to a firing slit, add a metal vertical embrasure or horizontal embrasure over it. To close the window completely, use wood shutters, the only window cover that opens and closes. For cheap cover outside the walls, see the Rust barricades guide.
Reinforced Glass Window Upkeep and Decay
- Upkeep: about 1 high quality metal a day, taken from the tool cupboard. The amount rises as your base gets bigger.
- Decay: about 12 hours to decay away once the tool cupboard runs out. See the Rust decay guide for how decay works.
- Repair: hit it with a hammer while you have high quality metal.
- Dropped item: despawns after 40 minutes on the ground.
Reinforced Glass Window Tips
- Lookout rooms. Put it where you watch for raiders, roofcampers or the road to your base.
- Bars where you shoot. Glass blocks your own shots, so keep metal bars on shooting floors.
- Not for turrets. An auto turret cannot fire through glass. Use bars for turret windows.
- Swap out strengthened glass. Once you have a Workbench 3, replacing Workbench 2 glass adds 150 HP for 4 HQM a window.
- Keep loot rooms windowless. A see-through window shows raiders exactly what is inside.
- Not raid proof. 2 C4 still opens it, so the window wall around it needs to be sheet metal or armored.
Reinforced Glass Window Rust FAQ
How much does a reinforced glass window cost in Rust?
4 high quality metal at a Workbench 3. It takes 15 seconds to craft.
How much HP does a reinforced glass window have?
500 HP, the same as metal window bars and more than the 350 HP of the strengthened glass window.
Can you shoot through a reinforced glass window in Rust?
No. It is see-through but bulletproof, so bullets stop at the glass in both directions. Auto turrets cannot fire through it either.
How many C4 does it take to break a reinforced glass window?
2 C4 (4,400 sulfur), which is the cheapest option. You can also use 200 explosive 5.56 rounds, 4 rockets, 12 satchel charges or 3 MLRS rockets.
How do you get the reinforced glass window blueprint?
Research one at a research table for 60 scrap, or unlock it on the Workbench 3 tech tree. The blueprint lasts the whole wipe.
What is the difference between reinforced and strengthened glass in Rust?
Both are bulletproof and see-through. The Strengthened Glass Window costs 50 metal fragments at a Workbench 2 and has 350 HP. The Reinforced Glass Window costs 4 high quality metal at a Workbench 3 and has 500 HP.
Is the reinforced glass window better than metal window bars?
Both have 500 HP and take 2 C4. Glass is better for lookouts because bullets cannot get through. Bars are better for shooting floors and turret windows because you can fire through them.
How much upkeep does a reinforced glass window cost?
About 1 high quality metal a day from the tool cupboard. Without upkeep it decays in about 12 hours.
