Strengthened Glass Window Rust: Cost, HP, Raid Cost & Bulletproof (2026)

Rust base building guide, 2026

The strengthened glass window is the only window insert in Rust you can see through that also stops bullets. It turns a window opening into a safe lookout: you can watch your yard, your neighbours and anyone walking up to your door without giving them a hole to shoot through.

This strengthened glass window Rust guide covers what it costs, how to get the blueprint, how to place it, how much health it has, whether you can shoot through it, the cheapest way to raid it, how it compares with window bars and reinforced glass, its upkeep, and the best places to use it in a base.

TL;DR The Strengthened Glass Window costs 50 metal fragments at a Workbench 2 and goes into the opening of a window wall. It has 350 HP, you can see through it both ways, and bullets cannot pass in either direction. Raiding it takes 140 explosive ammo (the cheapest at 3,500 sulfur), 2 C4, 3 rockets or 9 satchels. Research it for 30 scrap. Use it for lookouts, and use window bars where you need to shoot back.

Strengthened Glass Window Cost

It is one of the cheapest metal building items you can craft at a Workbench 2.

Strengthened glass window Rust craft cost: 50 metal fragments at a Workbench 2, about 15 seconds to craft, 30 scrap to research, stacks of 10, and 30 metal fragments back from a recycler

Item shortnamewall.window.glass.reinforced (ID -1614955425)

The shortname says “reinforced”, but in game this is the Strengthened Glass Window. The item actually called the Reinforced Glass Window is a different, Workbench 3 piece that costs high quality metal (more on that in the comparison below).

Strengthened Glass Window Blueprint

Strengthened glass window blueprint in Rust: research it at a research table for 30 scrap, or unlock it on the Workbench 2 tech tree for a 30 scrap node plus the nodes before it
Two ways to learn the blueprint.
  • Research table: put a strengthened glass window and 30 scrap into a research table. The window is used up.
  • Workbench 2 tech tree: the node costs 30 scrap, the same as research, but you have to unlock the nodes before it first, so the full path costs more.

If you or a teammate already have a window, the research table is far cheaper.

How to Place a Strengthened Glass Window

How to place a strengthened glass window in Rust: build a window wall with the Building Plan, upgrade it to stone or better, place the glass in the opening, and keep metal fragments in the tool cupboard for upkeep
It needs a window wall, not a wall frame.
  1. Open the Building Plan, pick Window from the wall options and place it like a normal wall.
  2. Upgrade the window wall with a hammer. The glass only protects the opening, so a twig or wood window wall is still the easy way in.
  3. Hold the strengthened glass window and aim at the opening to place it.
  4. Keep metal fragments in your tool cupboard so it does not decay.

Each window opening takes one insert: glass, or one set of window bars. It does not fit wall frames or doorways. For how window walls fit into a full base, see the Rust building guide.

Can You Shoot Through Strengthened Glass?

No. You can see through it, but bullets stop on the glass in both directions. That is the whole point of the item.

Can you shoot through a strengthened glass window in Rust? You can see through it both ways, normal bullets are stopped in and out, and explosive ammo breaks it in 140 rounds
A lookout that nobody can shoot into.
  • Seeing: works both ways. You can watch the outside, and players outside can see into the room.
  • Normal bullets: blocked. You cannot shoot out, and they cannot shoot in.
  • Auto turrets: cannot fire through it either, so do not put a turret behind glass. Use window bars or a chainlink fence cage for that.
  • Explosive ammo: damages it like any other building piece, which is how most people raid it.
They can see in Glass works both ways. Anyone walking past can look straight into the room, so never put a strengthened glass window on your loot room or tool cupboard room.

Strengthened Glass Window Raid Cost

Strengthened glass window raid cost in Rust: 140 explosive ammo for 3,500 sulfur, 2 timed explosive charges, 3 rockets, 9 satchel charges, 39 beancan grenades or 24 HV rockets to break 350 HP
Explosive ammo is the cheapest way through.
ToolAmountSulfur
Explosive 5.56 Rifle Ammo1403,500 (cheapest)
Rocket34,200
Satchel Charge94,320
Timed Explosive Charge (C4)24,400
Beancan Grenade394,680
High Velocity Rocket244,800
40mm HE Grenade20–
MLRS Rocket2–
Jackhammer (hits)154–

At 350 HP it is a bit weaker than a stone wall (500 HP, 2 C4 or 4 rockets), so a glass window is a slightly cheaper way in than the wall around it. Melee is not realistic: it takes over 150 jackhammer hits. Compare every wall and door in the raid calculator, or see all explosives in the Rust explosives guide.

Strengthened Glass vs Window Bars

Four inserts fit a window opening. Strengthened glass is the only one that stops bullets.

Rust window options compared: wooden window bars 250 HP for 50 wood, metal window bars 500 HP for 25 frags at Workbench 1, strengthened glass window 350 HP for 50 frags at Workbench 2 and cannot be shot through, reinforced glass window 500 HP for 4 high quality metal at Workbench 3

The Reinforced Glass Window is the Workbench 3 upgrade: bulletproof like strengthened glass, but with 500 HP. Pick metal bars for windows you fight from, and glass for windows you only look out of. More in our reinforced glass window guide. Metal embrasures (100 frags, WB2) are another option when you want to narrow a window into a firing slit; see the metal vertical embrasure guide.

Strengthened Glass Window Upkeep and Decay

Strengthened glass window upkeep in Rust: 5 to 17 metal fragments a day from the tool cupboard, 12 hours to decay without upkeep, repaired with a hammer using metal fragments, and a dropped window despawns after 20 minutes
Cheap to keep alive.
  • Upkeep: 5 to 17 metal fragments a day, taken from the tool cupboard. The amount rises as your base gets bigger.
  • Decay: about 12 hours to decay away once the tool cupboard runs out. See the Rust decay guide for how decay works.
  • Repair: hit it with a hammer while you have metal fragments.
  • Dropped item: despawns after 20 minutes on the ground.

Strengthened Glass Window Tips

Rust strengthened glass window tips: use it for lookout windows, do not put turrets behind it, use bars on fighting floors, keep glass away from loot rooms, add embrasures, and build glass lookouts on roofs and towers
Six ways to get the most out of strengthened glass.
  • Lookout windows. Put glass where you want to watch the yard, the front door or a farm without taking hits.
  • Not for turrets. Turrets cannot fire through glass. Give them bars or an open spot. Our auto turret guide covers placement.
  • Bars where you fight. On a roof or shooting floor you want to fire back, so use metal bars there.
  • Keep it away from loot. Raiders can see straight in, and glass is weaker than the stone around it.
  • Add embrasures. A metal embrasure can cover a window when you want a smaller opening.
  • Roofs and towers. A glass room on top of your base is a safe place to scout raids and roaming groups.
Tip For a base that needs to hold, the window wall itself matters more than the insert. Upgrade it to sheet metal or armored with the rest of the walls.
