Double Door Rust: Cost, HP & Raid Cost for All 3 Doors

Rust building guide, 2026

Sooner or later every base needs a gap wider than one doorway. A shop front, a wide compound entrance, a room you want to walk two players through at once. That is what the double door is for. Rust has three of them, one for each door tier, and they all have one thing in common that catches new builders out: none of them fit in a doorway.

This double door Rust guide covers all three: the Wood Double Door, the Sheet Metal Double Door and the Armored Double Door. You get the exact crafting cost, health, how many explosives each one takes to break, where they go, and when a garage door is the better pick for the same slot. If you only need a normal door, our guides to the wooden door, sheet metal door and armored door go deeper on the single versions.

TL;DR There are three double doors in Rust. The Wood Double Door has 200 HP and costs 350 wood. The Sheet Metal Double Door has 250 HP and costs 200 metal fragments. Both are default blueprints with no workbench needed. The Armored Double Door has 1,000 HP, costs 25 high quality metal and 5 gears, and needs a Workbench Level 3. Every double door goes in a wall frame, not a doorway, and each one has the same HP and raid cost as the single door of its tier. Wider, never stronger.

What Is a Double Door in Rust?

A double door is a two leaf hinged door that fills a wall frame. It opens from the middle, it takes a key lock or a code lock like any other door, and you can pick it up with building privilege once the lock is off. It is a deployable, not a building block, so you craft it, then place it into a frame you have already built.

The three tiers mirror the single doors exactly. Wood is the cheap wipe day option that burns. Sheet metal shrugs off fire and melee but folds to one C4. Armored is the end game door with the highest health of any door in the game and two small hatches you can shoot out of.

Double Door Stats: All Three Compared

Health decides how much it costs a raider to get through, so it is the number that matters most. Here is how the three stack up side by side.

Sheet Metal Double Door250200 Metal FragmentsNoneDefault
Armored Double Door Strongest1,00025 HQM + 5 GearsLevel 3Tech tree or research

The jump from sheet metal to armored is huge: four times the health. The jump from wood to sheet metal is tiny in health, only 50 HP, but it matters more than the number suggests because sheet metal can’t be burned down with molotovs or fire arrows.

Double Door Crafting Cost

Two of the three are known from the moment you spawn, so you can craft them on wipe day with nothing but the resources. The armored version is a late game unlock.

Double door crafting cost in Rust: wood double door 350 wood, sheet metal double door 200 metal fragments, armored double door 25 high quality metal and 5 gears at a Workbench Level 3
Wood and sheet metal craft anywhere. Armored needs a Workbench Level 3.
  • Wood Double Door: 350 wood. Default blueprint, no workbench. That is only 50 more wood than the single wooden door.
  • Sheet Metal Double Door: 200 metal fragments. Default blueprint, no workbench. The single sheet metal door is 150, so the double costs 50 fragments extra.
  • Armored Double Door: 25 high quality metal and 5 gears at a Workbench Level 3. Unlock it on the Workbench 3 tech tree, or research a found one at a research table for 120 scrap.
Skip the craft on the armored one Armored Double Doors show up in the loot from Bradley APC crates. If your group is already running Launch Site, that is 25 HQM and 5 gears you keep for something else.
Budget for the lock A double door with no lock is just a big hole with a hinge. A code lock costs 100 metal fragments. Craft it in the same trip and put it on the moment the door goes up.

Where Double Doors Go: The Wall Frame

This is the part that trips people up. You can’t put a double door in a doorway. Doorways are for single doors only. A double door needs a wall frame, the wall piece with a big open rectangle in the middle, which you place with the building plan like any other wall.

In Rust double doors go in a wall frame, not a doorway, the same slot garage doors and shop fronts use
Double doors, garage doors and shop fronts all compete for the same wall frame slot.
  1. Place a wall frame with the building plan where you want the wide opening.
  2. Upgrade the frame with a hammer. Match it to the door: at least sheet metal for anything you care about.
  3. Hang the double door in the frame, and check which way it swings before you commit.
  4. Add a lock straight away and authorize your team.

The same wall frame slot also takes the garage door and shop fronts. So a double door is always competing with those two for the spot. More on which to pick further down.

The frame trap Raiders pay for whichever is cheaper, the door or the frame around it. An armored double door in a stone wall frame is wasted HQM, because raiders break the frame instead. Upgrade the frame to sheet metal or armored before you hang an expensive door. Our Rust building guide covers the tier costs.

Double Door Raid Cost

These are hard side numbers, meaning the face the door does not swing toward. Sulfur costs use 2,200 per C4, 1,400 per rocket, 480 per satchel and 25 per explosive round.

Rust double door raid cost: wood double door 1 C4 or 2 satchels, sheet metal double door 1 C4 or 4 satchels, armored double door 3 C4, 5 rockets, 15 satchels or 250 explosive ammo
A double door costs exactly what the single door of its tier costs to raid.
Double doorC4RocketsSatchelsExplo ammoCheapest route
Wood (200 HP)112182 molotovs, 0 sulfur
Sheet Metal (250 HP)1246363 explo ammo, 1,575 sulfur
Armored (1,000 HP)3515250250 explo ammo, 6,250 sulfur
  • Wood double door: don’t waste sulfur. Fire works, just like on the single wooden door. Two molotovs or a stack of fire arrows does it for free.
  • Sheet metal double door: explosive ammo is cheapest on paper, but one C4 is the fastest.
  • Armored double door: 3 C4, 5 rockets or 15 satchels. Check the frame first. If it is stone, the frame is the cheaper way in.

Double Door vs Single Door

The most common myth about double doors is that twice the width means twice the toughness. It doesn’t. Each double door is one entity with exactly the same health as the single door of its tier, so it falls to exactly the same explosives.

Rust double door vs single door: same HP and same raid cost for wood, sheet metal and armored, but the double door costs a little more and fits a wall frame
You pay a little more for the width and get no extra protection.
TierSingle doorDouble doorDifference
Wood200 HP, 300 wood, doorway200 HP, 350 wood, wall frame+50 wood, can’t go on boats
Sheet metal250 HP, 150 frags, doorway250 HP, 200 frags, wall frame+50 fragments
Armored1,000 HP, 20 HQM + 5 gears, doorway1,000 HP, 25 HQM + 5 gears, wall frame+5 HQM, two hatches instead of one

So the choice is about the opening, not about defense. Use a double door where you actually need the width. Everywhere else, a single door in a doorway is cheaper, and two single doors in an airlock are far stronger than one double door, because a raider has to pay twice.

Double Door vs Garage Door

Since both fit a wall frame, the real question for most bases is not “double door or single door”, it is “double door or garage door”. The garage door has 600 HP, costs 300 metal fragments and 2 gears at a Workbench Level 2, and has no soft side.

Rust sheet metal double door vs garage door vs armored double door: 250, 600 and 1,000 HP with their costs and raid costs
For most wall frames the garage door is the value pick.
  • Sheet Metal Double Door wins on wipe day. No workbench, no gears, 200 fragments. Use it to close a wide gap in your first hour.
  • Garage Door wins for most of the wipe. More than double the health of the sheet metal double for 100 more fragments and 2 gears.
  • Armored Double Door wins when you need the toughest frame door and want to fight from it. It has 400 more HP than a garage door and hatches to shoot through.

The Armored Double Door Hatches

The Armored Double Door carries two small hatches, one on each leaf. Open one and you get a narrow slit to look and shoot through without opening the door itself. Close it again and it is solid metal.

The hatch gives a narrow view out. Great for a corridor, useless for spotting a flank.
It works both ways An open hatch is a hole in your door. Anyone outside can shoot or throw through it too. Open it, take the shot, close it. Never leave it open when you log off.

Double Door Placement Tips

Six Rust double door placement tips: lock it, match the frame tier, airlock it, cover upkeep, hard side out and guard the gap with a turret
A double door is a wide target. Build around that.
  1. Lock it at once. The minute it is placed, the lock goes on.
  2. Match the frame tier. The frame should be at least as hard to break as the door in it.
  3. Airlock it. Put a second door behind every double door that leads to loot. Raiders then pay twice.
  4. Cover the upkeep. Keep it inside your tool cupboard range, or it decays like everything else.
  5. Hard side out. Doors take more damage on the side they swing toward. Hang it so it opens into your base.
  6. Guard the gap. A wide entrance is easy to rush. An auto turret facing it makes that expensive.

Double Door Rust FAQ

How much does a double door cost in Rust?

The Wood Double Door costs 350 wood, the Sheet Metal Double Door costs 200 metal fragments, and the Armored Double Door costs 25 high quality metal and 5 gears. Wood and sheet metal need no workbench. Armored needs a Workbench Level 3.

Why can’t I place a double door in a doorway?

Double doors don’t fit doorways. They go in a wall frame, the same slot as garage doors and shop fronts. Place a wall frame with the building plan, then hang the double door in it.

Is a double door stronger than a single door in Rust?

No. Each double door has the same health as the single door of its tier: 200 for wood, 250 for sheet metal and 1,000 for armored. They take exactly the same number of explosives to break.

How many C4 for an armored double door?

Three C4 on the hard side. It also takes 5 rockets, 15 satchels or 250 explosive 5.56 rounds. Explosive ammo is the cheapest at about 6,250 sulfur.

How many satchels for a sheet metal double door?

Four satchels on the hard side, or 1 C4, 2 rockets or 63 explosive rounds. It has 250 HP, the same as the single sheet metal door.

Is the sheet metal double door a default blueprint?

Yes. Both the Wood Double Door and the Sheet Metal Double Door are known by default and need no workbench, so you can craft them on wipe day. The Armored Double Door has to be unlocked on the Workbench 3 tech tree or researched.

Should I use a double door or a garage door?

For most wall frames, a garage door. It has 600 HP for 300 metal fragments and 2 gears. A sheet metal double door is only worth it on wipe day before you have gears, and an armored double door is worth it when you want the toughest frame door and hatches to shoot through.

Can you shoot through an armored double door?

Yes, through its two hatches. Open a hatch to get a narrow slit you can look and shoot through, then close it. Enemies can shoot back through an open hatch, so keep it shut when you are not using it.
