The Snowman Helmet is the angry snowman head, top hat and red scarf you see on players every winter. It is a Steam item: once it sits in your Steam inventory, you can craft it on any server for just 10 cloth, with no workbench and no research.
This Rust snowman helmet guide covers how to get it, the exact craft cost and protection numbers, how it compares with the bucket and riot helmets, what you can and cannot wear with it, its live market price, snowman skins that match it, and what a recycler gives back.

What Is the Snowman Helmet in Rust?
The Snowman Helmet (shortname attire.snowman.helmet, item ID -842267147) is a full-head piece of clothing shaped like a grumpy snowman with a black top hat, a carrot nose and a long red scarf. The game describes it as “a snowman helmet which provides ample protection”.
It is not a skin. It is its own item with its own stats, like the Bucket Helmet or a hat. What makes it different is how you unlock it: the recipe is tied to a Steam item, the same way the Twitch drop Headset (also 10 cloth) and the Clatter Helmet work. Do not mix it up with the deployable Snowman decoration, which is a separate Steam item crafted from 50 charcoal, 20 cloth and 20 metal fragments; our charcoal guide covers that one.
How to Get the Snowman Helmet
Facepunch sold the Snowman Helmet in the in-game Rust store during the Season’s Beatings Christmas event in December 2021. It is no longer in the store, so today you buy it from another player:
- Buy it on the Steam Community Market. On November 3, 2026 the lowest listing was $1.95, with 26 sold in the last 24 hours, so there is always one for sale.
- Or trade for it on a third party site; our skin trading sites list shows where.
- Keep it in your Steam inventory. That is your blueprint. If you sell, trade or break it down, you can no longer craft it in game.
It does not drop from Christmas presents, crates or scientists, and you cannot research it. Players without the Steam item can still pick one up from a body or loot it from a base and wear it; they just cannot craft new ones. For how the weekly Rust store works, see our Rust item store guide.

How to Craft the Snowman Helmet in Rust
- Own the Steam item. It has to be in the Steam inventory of the account you play on.
- Get 10 cloth. One wild hemp plant gives exactly that. See our hemp guide and Rust cloth guide for every source.
- Open the crafting menu (Q) and find the Snowman Helmet under Clothing.
- Craft it anywhere. No workbench is needed and it takes 15 seconds.
Snowman Helmet Protection
For 10 cloth, the Snowman Helmet is strong. Its 20% projectile protection matches the Bucket Helmet, which needs metal fragments and a Workbench 1, and it is four times what a bandana gives. The head is where most fights end, so this is the cheapest real upgrade you can make on wipe day.
The 10% cold protection is a nice bonus on snow spawns and at night, and the Snow Jacket pairs with it for the full winter look. At 5% radiation it will not carry you through high radiation monuments; bring a Hazmat Suit for those. Protection numbers are the RustClash values we use on every clothing page; the Facepunch wiki lists bite at 6% instead of 7%, and everything else matches.
Snowman Helmet vs Other Rust Helmets
| Helmet | Bullet | Melee | Cost | Workbench |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Snowman Helmet | 20% | 25% | 10 cloth (Steam item) | None |
| Bandana | 5% | 10% | 5 cloth | None |
| Bucket Helmet | 20% | 50% | 20 metal fragments | WB1 |
| Riot Helmet | 25% | 80% | 10 cloth + 50 metal fragments | WB1 |
| Coffee Can Helmet | 35% | 50% | 15 cloth + 60 frags + 1 sewing kit | WB2 |
The Snowman Helmet wins on one thing: no workbench and no metal. Before your first Workbench 1, nothing else gives 20% bullet protection on the head. Once you have a bench and some frags, the Bucket Helmet doubles the melee protection and still lets you wear a bandana under it (25% bullet, 60% melee together), and the Riot Helmet is better again. For real fights, see our Rust armor guide.
What to Wear With a Snowman Helmet
The Snowman Helmet fills the whole head: both the clothing layer and the armor layer. That means it does not go with a bandana, balaclava, burlap headwrap, beanie, Metal Facemask or any other helmet. Everything below the neck is free.
| Slot | Good match | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Chest | Snow Jacket | Cold protection, full winter look |
| Chest, wipe day | Burlap Shirt + Hide Poncho | No workbench needed |
| Legs | Burlap Trousers or Pants | Cheap leg cover |
| Feet | Boots | Cold and bite protection |
Try the combination in our Rust outfit builder, and see every slot rule in our Rust clothing guide.
Snowman Skins to Match the Helmet
The Snowman Helmet has no skins of its own, because it already is a cosmetic Steam item. But Rust has 14 other snowman-themed skins on regular items, released every Christmas since 2019. We checked the cheapest listing for each across 16 markets on November 3, 2026:
| Skin | Item | Cheapest price | Steam Market |
|---|---|---|---|
| Evil Snowman Chestplate | Metal Chest Plate | $0.44 | $0.60 |
| Melting Snowman Water Purifier | Water Purifier | $0.56 | $0.84 |
| Evil Snowman SAR | Semi-Automatic Rifle | $0.58 | $0.81 |
| Snowman Surprise SAR | Semi-Automatic Rifle | $0.61 | $0.77 |
| Evil Snowman AR | Assault Rifle | $0.68 | $1.09 |
| Snowman Launcher | Rocket Launcher | $0.76 | $1.15 |
| Evil Snowman L96 | L96 Rifle | $1.01 | $1.53 |
| Snowman Head Rock | Rock | $1.02 | $1.49 |
| Snowman Furnace | Furnace | $1.05 | $1.39 |
| Evil Snowman M249 | M249 | $1.20 | $1.69 |
| Snowman Door | Sheet Metal Door | $1.22 | $1.55 |
| Snowman Backpack | Large Backpack | $1.26 | $1.66 |
| Evil Snowman Mask | Metal Facemask | $1.91 | $2.70 |
| Snowman Hammer | Hammer | $2.44 | $3.59 |
All 14 together cost about $14.74 at the cheapest listings. Skins never change stats. For buying and selling, see our Rust skins guide, and for the rest of the holiday items, our Rust presents guide.
Recycling a Snowman Helmet
| Recycler | Cloth back |
|---|---|
| Safe zone (40%) | 4 cloth |
| Monument, unpowered (50%) | 5 cloth |
| Monument, powered (60%) | 6 cloth |
| Power Plant (75%) | About 7 cloth |
Recycling an in-game Snowman Helmet does not touch your Steam item, so you can keep crafting. There is no scrap, though, so it is only worth it for spare cloth. Rates are explained in our recycler guide.
Snowman Helmet Tips
- Craft it on spawn. One hemp plant and you have 20% head protection before anyone else on the beach.
- Do not stack a bandana. It will not fit. If you want the bandana combo, use a Bucket Helmet.
- Swap at Workbench 1. The Riot Helmet’s 80% melee matters more once guns are out.
- Easy to spot. A big white head with a red scarf stands out in green biomes. In snow it blends in better.
- It is a good Christmas buy. Holiday items often get more attention in December, and the Christmas event usually starts mid-December. Check when the next Rust force wipe is so your kit is ready.
Server admins can spawn one with inventory.give attire.snowman.helmet 1 in the F1 console. More commands are in our Rust admin commands list.
